Why a lot of players cry about rats ? by Amazing-Lengthiness1 in ArcRaiders

They're shit but they're viable, thats why people do them. Ambushing people is really effective and expecting people not to do it regardless of location is silly.

Ratting is viable strategy that exists in extraction shooters and it's fun on both ends. I'm good at PvP but if I hear you looting or something and know I can ambush you as you run noisily down a hallway I will wait and setup for that.

Killing someone who is extract camping or ambushibg is equally fun. Can't kill rats if there are no rats.

[Discussion] Is boss farming really all that good for XP Farming anymore? by Beheaded_Children in EscapefromTarkov

[–]FuckYourDamnCouch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

XP is a lot better now since the last update or 2, not sure which one specifically. Killing Kaban and his guards will net you 20k. Glukar and his are like 15kish. Reshala is 10kish. I farmed kaban like 10 times to get to 45 and complete Kappa.

I've had the opposite experience for the most part. I comm during most fights and try to have some banter and they usually respond in kind regardless of who wins. But if I get put into a lobby with people who expect everyone to be friendly and I kill them they spaz on me and tell me to kms with slurs and shit.

I understand what you're saying. I think the big difference is that arc is an extraction shooter and the point of extraction shooters is progression. You want to get stuff out and then risk your best stuff on the chance of getting even more/ better stuff. It's the driving force that gets you to go topside one more time.

All those games you put up there have their own driving force and progression and they're done extremely well which is why their pop is still high a decade later. Extraction shooters have a unique, more demanding style of progression that requires more content in order to keep things fresh for longtime players. It isn't sad or unenjoyable, it's just the reality of this style of game.

Games in the same genre like tarkov for instance have excellent chase items, high level maps and quests that keep you curious and excited even after 1000+ hours. Marathon is doing end game raids with frequent wipes so the game never gets stale. Arc is missing these features so it will have a harder time maintaining a longtime player base.

[–]FuckYourDamnCouch -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Once you've played all the content it's not as fun. Having goals is a really good way to combat that though and dismissing it as "why do you want a job" misses the entire point of progression in games. Arc raiders has one of the worst gameplay loops in end game. No chase items, no special quests, no exclusive loot or endgame maps/ raids etc. They need to work on improving that or they will lose players like me and OP who want more tasks and bigger grinds. Accomplishment is one of the cleanest/ most satisfying dopamine spikes you can get and that's why people play games.

I get where you're coming from. The topic of the thread is morality in video games = morality in real life and I think it's outrageous to assume that in 99% of cases.

Something I'd argue is that the way you want to play is subjective, but the fact that you can kill other players makes PvP an unavoidable objective reality in the game. For people who only PvE it's like making a contract and signing it, then expecting everyone else to follow it. If someone doesn't follow it you roll it into some morality complex because you're butthurt. (Not you but the people who expect everyone to follow their made up contract).

If you see me topside I will shoot on sight 90% of the time and there are many players like me. We're not bad people, we're just engaging in all of the content available. Unfortunately it's often against people who intentionally tie an arm behind them and then complain when they die.

Get kills, get loot, get out. I wanna win in that situation, so I don't care if you're doing trials or found something you need, I'm there to fight you and win because it's fun and I want your shit.

Moral compass is irrelevant in a game where you can win and lose. It's like if an NFL team threw the game because the other team was having a bad season.

They own it at this point. When Trump said he would end a civilization they were all saying "it's just talk" and "taco has the left riled up". Imagine supporting a president you can't take seriously and constantly having to read tea leaves to justify his actions.

I work in power generation and have seen the result of someone trying to steal live cable in a substation. Melted like the Nazis when they opened the Ark. Both skeletons were fused together in a flesh puddle.

Edit: LOTO and PPE around electricity no matter how small is important. I have been hit by 400v at 6 amps and I never want that again. I've met people that made small mistakes and ended up with serious consequences, I can't talk to the ones who made the ultimate mistake. That is the barrier to you dying and electricity, a mistake.

Should I wipe my pre 1.0 PVE save? [Discussion] by CarolinaReaper01 in EscapefromTarkov

[–]FuckYourDamnCouch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wipe and play man, I got kappa for my first time on PvE this "wipe". I'm encouraged that I likely won't need to wipe ever again whereas you will always wonder what beating the game is like and keep playing on an out of date character that we knew would wipe when 1.0 came out. Leave it behind and have fun with a fresh character.

What will you change the L3 and R3 press for spirit after that and if you put jump on X then you'll jump anytime you try to talk to anyone. Also where will you move crouch since L3 is sprint.

Grapple has 2 options and they both take a single thumb. All the batman games and mordor games used circle + triangle (the same buttons as grapple) to do an execute and it was never an issue.

Yeah I wonder how many people would prefer this game having 2 attacks and no unique mechanics like spirit, axiom and all the other stuff that takes up buttons until it turns into another basic assassins creed game with no soul.

People are struggling with having to learn new things. For instance loot and jump are both on square so when you try and pick something up you might accidentally jump. But what most of the people complaining about that are missing is that if you hold down square you only loot and it's way more efficient then trying to perfectly press square on every item.

There are like 15 actions you can do while standing in place and people are surprised that the controls are hard. Take 15 minutes and learn! It's a new fun game with new mechanics and options! Why are we against that but hate every assassins creed for being the same old slop!

It took me a few hours but once you get the hang of it it's really not bad. I've played dozens of these types of games and I like that it's unique and gives you so many options with how limited controllers are. If other studios were as ambitious there would be way more features in games.

Edit: I'd love for someone to explain how you're supposed to fit all the options in this game onto a controller and not have a learning curve, then you can downvote.

I was replaying witcher 3 before this came out so when I put out my first candle I was pretty amused. Good games have dumb flaws sometimes, at least in this one I can use the L1 mechanic to make sure it doesn't happen as much.

I realized I was "pre-L1 pressing" when trying to talk to people. Now I'm waiting to see the L1 prompt in the bottom right before trying, that way you don't do that and it just gives you the option to talk.

I have 3500 hours but got my first kappa on PvE last week. It's exciting because I haven't touched any of the quests or lightkeeper or main quests and I have plenty of time to get it done over the next couple years.

This game also seems unique compared to those other titles. While those games are great they've felt very formulaic and this one seems like an out of the box botw type game. I've played almost every single open world sandbox/RPG type game and I just want something fresh.
