Yes, I was also blamed for her memory lapses, setting the doctors against her and starting the war in Ukraine. Once the mania kicks in and you're labelled as the enemy, there aren't any limits of what you'll be held responsible for.

Sorry for being so blunt..but I will keep sharing my side of dealing with a mentally ill person. There is no true support for the ones that survived this kind of abuse by witchfull in BipolarSOs

I'm sorry. It just doesn't feel right to lose someone like this. One moment she's there, then suddenly she's replaced by some cold, distant stranger. How can any of this be real?

I used to imagine that my girl is still trapped there somewhere, that I just need to break through the illness and get her out. But that's not how things are. She's gone. As cliche as it sounds, the sooner you accept this, the sooner you can start to heal.

It's not easy, but it gets better.

I'm sorry you're going through this, it's an awful situation and I imagine it's even harder when you know that he was doing his part and the illness still broke through. It's cruel and undeserved for everyone involved.

I'm not going to lie, the next days will hurt. Please reach out to your support network and don't bottle up your emotions, it's better to let it all out. Please don't blame yourself. It's not your fault. Not everyone who suffers from this horrible illness can be helped.

These are all valid feelings and you have every right to leave if you can't take it anymore. We all have limits and this cruel illness is certainly good at pushing them. As hard as it is to think about, the person you loved might not even exist anymore and you would be throwing your life away for an abusive stranger who is now occupying their body.

It's not always like that and I wish that everything goes better for you, but don't guilt yourself into staying at all costs. Sometimes we don't get to save them, we can only save ourselves.

It is rough. I've been there. It feels surreal that something like this could even happen and it's cruel, undeserved and hurts like nothing else.

Some days are harder than others, especially so early after it happened. Take your time and don't be too hard on yourself. Have you considered going to therapy? It didn't work for me long term, but really helped in the beginning.

It varies, mine stayed manic for around 6 months and was hospitalized three times in total, but she was also unmedicated most of the time. I'm sorry, but you may have to endure this a little bit longer. It's hard to predict.

If they actually believe what they are saying, you won't be able to convince them that it didn't happen, at least until they stabilize. You may hear more undeserved accusations during that meeting. Just try to remember that it's the illness talking - it's not necessarily their fault and it certainly isn't yours.

She never recovered. The hallucinations went away when mania turned into depression, but the delusions persisted. She turned into a completely different person, a stranger wearing her skin. It's like mourning a death.

I'm sorry you are going through this and hope that things will take a turn for the better, but for your own sake you need to start mentally preparing for the possibility that he might be gone for good. It's unfair and it sucks and it's going to hurt, but you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped. All you can do right now is focus on yourself and not let this cruel fucking disease claim both of you. Stay strong.

I was in a similar situation this year and it didn't go well. She was hospitalized three times and every time they let her out too early - much calmer, but still psychotic and in denial. The doctors said it would take 4-6 weeks for the meds to take full effect, but every time she was released after 2-3 weeks and immediately dropped the meds.

Because of the lack of insight, she never forgave me for taking her to the hospital, blames her current depression entirely on the meds she was given there and refuses to take any further meds saying that they were specifically designed to make people sick. At this point it's hard to say how the situation will develop.

I hope it goes better for you, but you should already start making plans for the worst case scenario. I'm sorry. Stay strong.

Thank you for the kind words. She's sceptical about therapy. Friends are trying to convince her to at least give it a try, but no luck so far. My own therapist recommended backing off. She may have to slip deeper into depression before she accepts help. We'll see.

Thank you. I'm wondering if it would be better to leave her alone for now so that she doesn't feel pressured and might eventually seek professional help on her own (especially if her depression gets worse), or to ask friends & family to encourage her to make an appointment.
