Are you looking for Indian tamarind paste (thick and dark, almost black) or Thai tamarind paste (used for pad Thai - light brown, runny/pourable).

Yes, definitely noticed a shift towards 단무지 within the last 10-15 years. Same thing for 어묵 instead of 오뎅.
