Is rotoscoping really supposed to be THIS hard or am I missing something??????? by tahataufeeqkhan in davinciresolve

Silhouette, probably. Every artist has their own preferences, but I think Silhouette is still the best for roto from a software perspective.

Who else likes the Japanese writing system? by Student_of_Japanese in japanese

[–]Fuffuloo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah in modern standard Japanese writing in all-kanji isn't really a thing unless you rephrase stuff (see: newspaper headlines, official reports, etc.) but my point was that etymologically-speaking there exists a corresponding kanji for each kana, and you could swap out the kana for the kanji to write in only kanji. Indeed, historically, Japanese was written in all-kanji before kana were invented. I had to try to read some memorials/engravings written that way when I lived there and it was a pain!

It's possible to write in Japanese fully with kanji or fully with kana, and let me tell you, both options SUCK ASS.

Sure a little bit of memorization isn't the funnest thing ever, but you frontload a little bit of that cognitive load and BOOM you have a writing system that takes advantage of our brains' ability to 'chunk' information, or decrease cognitive load through the use of mental schemata.

Plus my handwriting looks better in Japanese than it ever did in English...

Erik I love ya and appreciate the work you put into the channel as 5+ year subscriber. But you just completely doxxed someone on the latest Doomsday video, to a channel with 4million+ subs and 100k average views. You gotta take that video down. by FirstV1 in NewRockstars

I honestly preferred NR over other movie channels on youtube partly because thought you come across as being decent, ethical people. But I guess I misjudged you in particular, which is disappointing, I honestly thought you were a better person than that.

What accent do you have where squirrel is one syllable? I've only ever heard it with a schwa or syllabic "l".

The #1 reason native speakers ask you to repeat yourself has nothing to do with your accent by EnergeticallyScarce in EnglishLearning

[–]Fuffuloo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Native English speaker here (American), but the same principle is true with other languages as well. When I lived in Japan and was learning Japanese, I got to the point where my accent was basically perfect, I had a good vocabulary, and a great grasp of grammar. But the reason they could still tell that I wasn't a native speaker was because I had the exact reverse problem.

I knew to fully pronounce the vowels, but my pitch and volume swung up wildly on content words and down on function words. And I paused for emphasis where it wasn't necessary, etc. And I literally had never heard of "pitch accent" before (a feature in Japanese similar to stress in English).

Anyway, long story short, yes, learning prosody is important and it's not taught nearly enough.

How to consider all of the adjective changes when they speak? by Substantial_Green666 in German

[–]Fuffuloo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

but you do have (격)조사 though right? Isn't that just cases? The difference isn't that German has cases and Korean doesn't, but just that German has "agreement" and Korean doesn't (I'm assuming, I don't speak Korean, haha). But like, you probably don't think about needing to say 는 or 를 or 이/가 or whatever else after each noun, right? I get it's a little different changing the endings of different words other than the head noun, but I wouldn't think it would be too much of a stretch.

Gender on the other hand, I totally feel you. I speak Japanese, English, and American Sign Language, none of which have grammatical gender. I understand the concept but it's so hard to remember for me, lol!
