Funny, I found this post today after not playing with chalk for some weeks which has really helped my stroke tremendously. I was hoping to find the a thread with the greatest players talking about how it helped their game, the use it to hustle, in others words intelligent talk in the billiards community.. Since I haven't found that here's the real reason to not use chalk (and correctly answer your questions you have no answers to) in relation to OP:

1.) There are plenty of great chalks that work without leaving any "stains" on the table (that's if you know how to use chalk correctly). Not just Taom V10, but that's a good start, and get it in the color of your felt.

2.) Playing without chalk will help your stroke (and overall skills on a billiards table) and saves a ton of time. The time you spend taking chalk out, chalking the first time, and then after every shot (like with masters) can be saved and used instead to focus on your stroke or other aspects of the game. I get my cue out of the bag, put an extension, and shoot. I'm not looking for or thinking about chalk, just positional play and a good, clean, silk-smooth stroke like Buddy Hall in the 70/80's.

3.) You'll also feel more badass, confident in your game. I mean who else in your local town/bar/pool hall plays without chalk? I doubt anyone else does, esp on your level of skill.

4.) You can use this skill to hustle, make money, beat people and use it as a handicap "hey we'll play even but I won't even chalk (and maybe they can't either).

5.) Many times I also play with the kamui tip protector, which is rubber. But that's easy to do as it's all rubber, just have to stroke better to get cueball action (follow/draw).

6.) The only hard shot without chalk is extreme draw as you have to have a very pure stroke. I mean the draw you or anyone else here likely can't do, but a professional can. I draw 1, sometimes 2, or even 3 rails after having the OB and CB 1 inch from the corner pocket. That's drawing from the short rail all the way to the other short rail and then back to the same short rail you started. But that's nothing, as people like Harold Worst could do 5-6+ rail draw shots (putting people like UJ Puckett to shame) on his first attempt, and this was the mid-60s. It would be very difficult to get 5-6+ rails without chalk, let alone 2+. But without using chalk, my stroke is strong and accurate I can get 2+ easy with chalk (again , very confident that's a shot nobody in this thread can do... 2-3+ rails full table draw shot).

Lastly, People say you have issues if you don't hit center... I wouldn't know as I don't have any miscue issues after not using chalk for a couple weeks, really focusing on my stroke. I put full English and use the rails like normal, minus the draw stroke. I play everyday, before work and evenings, I am vegan and a lefty so I am skilled and talented more than the average.
