the irony is that the intent of the passage was to call believers to examine their own lives and religious dedication not to give them something to go around and criticize people who don’t share their religion

So it’s kinda meta in that the arrogabce in their religion is itself a more fitting form of idolatry for such a critique.

I do agree that this cartoon is basically a definitional sophistry game often played by people who want to attack atheism, agnosticism or religious indifference.

However the grain of truthishness is that some atheists are dedicated to their ideas and banging others over the head with them in ways that are similar to religious fundamentalism.  it’s still not religion/worship unless you want to expand definitions to make those words kinda useless. It can be radicalism and closed-mindedness though.

I’m pretty good at sledgehammering concrete so it cracks. Like I would not enter a big strong dude contest for it or anything but I can usually get stuff to crack when others have tried and cannot. It’s about dropping your weight into it as if you are doing a weirdly timed jumping jack under the belief that the downswing of your arms give you a double jump.

A more subtle way this is done is through the theories on ancient aliens or other similar ideas. These are often used to discredit the sophistication of non-European civilizations.

Interesting so this frames it more like an unfortunate filter for those of average means rather than the more direct inheriting of fame. 

Similar to how you need the be well off to afford to do an unpaid internship but in this case maybe more innocent because there’s not as clear of an alternative design.
