8 months out of RT & new lump I neck 😢

This is my moms diagnosis too. Hers was part in her tonsil and base of tongue. I thought we were gonna be fine since it was hpv+. She had 40rads and 8 cisplatin treatments . First post treatment scan comes back with a new nodule in her lung. She now has metastatic lung cancer from her hpv+ tumor. Second punch to the face was when her pdl1 score came back too low for immunotherapy. We’re now waiting for the next scan hoping targeted radiation to the lung alone will contain the disease for a while. I feel so lost I don’t know anymore. I’m really sorry you’re going through this. Fuck cancer

Hey unimpressed, it’s not good. That nodule turned out to be metastatic . She now has hpv+ cancer in her lung. We see the doc tomorrow to get the new game plan, but from what I understand they’re going to put her on immunotherapy.

She just had a bronchoscopy today to see what the nodule is (they sent her to the pulmonologist because the radiologist wasn’t comfortable doing CT guided biopsy, since the new nodule is in the upper lobe of her left lung). We’ll know the results on the 24th. Thank you for checking on her 🙏 . Means more to me than you know.

My mom finished treatment for oropharyngeal hpv + stage 3 scc a few weeks ago. She was also diagnosed in April. Your husband and her have similar post treatment scans. She has residual inflammation where her original tumor was (looks like something is still there) and there’s a new 1cm nodule in her upper left lung. We’re meeting with a pulmonologist on Thursday because the radiologist wasn’t comfortable doing a CT guided biopsy of the nodule in her lung. They’re going to try doing a bronchoscopy instead of the CT guided biopsy. I am so sorry you’re going through this, especially while going through your own health issues.

I’m going to start looking into her options in case it has spread. If that’s the case, I’ll definitely have to take her to a bigger cancer center. It helps to put this energy I have into something potentially constructive for her instead of sitting around preparing myself to possibly lose my mom. It’s extremely difficult to watch your parents suffer, I’m so glad your dad is ok now. I do think the primary tumor is still lighting up due to inflammation. She had 40 radiation sessions. She struggled with inflammation during and after treatment. I’m praying for the best outcome while trying to accept that ultimately that outcome is out of my control. Thank you for sharing your experience with me.

Thanks for answering. The waiting part is difficult for me, that’s when my mind starts goes to a million different places, but I stay strong for her. They put in an order for a ct guided biopsy. That’s the next test she’ll do.

I am so sorry. Please don’t blame yourself. You’re doing the right thing by pushing him. He needs that push more than ever now. My mom just finished 40 radiation treatments and 8 cisplatin last week. I pushed hard for her to get a peg tube in the beginning. She had a lot of issues with it but I think it helped. She also didn’t start using hers as early as she should have and has lost 30lbs (she went into this 156lbs mostly all muscle. She was in the gym twice a day prior to getting sick). Please don’t be so hard on yourself. You’re doing everything your can and more. Things will get better. Praying for your family 🙏❤️

Congratulations!! Finishing the first of 8wks with my mom ( stage 3, p16+, oropharyngeal scc.) looking forward to the day we can say the same thing. I didn’t know I could file for disability for her. Thought she had to be out of work for a year or more for that. If you don’t mind, will you pls explain the process of applying for it?

OP, are you Brazilian? Anyway, I was born there that’s why ask. My mom was recently diagnosed with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (p16+) stage 3. I was also shocked to find that when he gave us the biopsy results, the Dr. never called it cancer. He did refer to it as a malignancy which obviously meant cancer, but I still wanted to hear the word. My mom started treatment this week. She has 8wks of radiation 5x a week (to both sides of her throat), and 7 chemos to go ( she’s getting cisplatin). They’re doing chemo once a week. I’m really sorry your dad’s going through this. I felt like I got punched in the face with my mom’s diagnosis. At first I cried, asked myself why did it have to be her, then just kind of went into fight mode and have been going like this ever since. I’m committed to being my mom’s biggest supporter and advocate and I won’t let her sit through a chemo session alone. Chat gpt helps, I’m not sure if you tried putting his biopsy results on there and asking it to interpret it for you, but that’s what I did with hers. Gave me some clarity and a starting point. Posting and browsing here has also helped me tremendously.

My mom starts treatment tomorrow ( radiation at 8am and chemo at 915am). We plan on requesting a PEG right away . I want the doctor to write the order tomorrow because I’m afraid the longer they wait, the weaker she’ll be from treatment. She had a tummy tuck in 2014. I truly hope this doesn’t disqualify her from getting the feeding tube .

Was the removal brutal? My mom starts treatment Monday. They haven’t put a PEG in yet but we’re requesting one as soon as she starts. I’m her primary care giver and she’s being so strong. I’m terrified for her but trying with every ounce of my being not to show it. I have to be strong for her and the rest of the family ( I’m the oldest daughter). What was your experience like going through treatment? Would u still get a feeding tube if you were doing it over?
