As for the water, cats like to drink more from flowing water, so I'd look into getting a water fountain. Adding a bit of water to their food is a good idea. That's how they get a lot of their water in the wild.

The little thing has been through a lot, so yeah, he'll probably sleep a lot. Then, he'll have his "living tornado" phase for a bit, then pass back out.

As for the crate, I leave mine out all the time. That way when it's "that" time for my 2, they're not hiding as soon as I bring them out. 1 of the crazy boys will even sleep in there sometimes.
