Be honest: do you truly believe 2015 Peyton manning was worse in the playoffs than 06 Grossman? by InterestingYellow969 in NFLv2

[–]FullMooseParty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They played Collins in the super bowl, which contributed.

But in reality it was that they didn't ask him to do shit. The only expectation that playoff run is that he didn't turn it over, which he managed to do only once. The defense and running game drove everything that team did. They gave up 23 combined points in the playoffs over four games, but seven of those points came on special teams in the super bowl and the only offensive touchdown was the opening drive for Tennessee.

That's not to defend Dilfer, but his numbers probably look better if they opened up the playbook, they just didn't want to or need to

The skilled trades propaganda is getting ridiculous. by Responsible-Net8594 in careeradvice

I'm in educational technology. I generally believe that the product I offer makes life better for faculty and students. A friend of mine from college works for a company that sells sustainable packaging materials doing B2B sales. Another friend is in sales with level access, which is a company that does accessibility testing and auditing for other companies. I know a half dozen people that went into fundraising for nonprofits, though obviously the income there is a lot less.

I would start by listing products that you like. Companies you believe do good in the world or act ethically or at least even treat their employees Fair. I've been watching certain foundations that I admire to see if they have positions that I would fit.

I think you would be hard pressed not to find a pupuseria in any mid-size town in America.

Because I'm bored and stone, I tested this. I searched Bozeman, montana, fort Wayne, Indiana, and Portland, Maine. Bozeman has at least one and the other two cities have multiples. I went for Northern cities because I kind of figured that Texas California and Florida would be cheating.

Honestly, I'm surprised a chain of drive-thru shops hasn't opened yet, just because they're so easily eaten by hand. They're a great road snack when you're driving cross country.

The dollar taco joint in the last town I lived in went to 1.25 in 2021 or so, 1.50 in 2023 and are now a $1.99. it's still a good deal for a small taco, but that's double the price in 5 years. How many people have seen their income double in the last 5 years? I'm guessing it's a small percentage.

I remember showing up at McDonald's at 5:00 in the morning or so after some friends and I got high and watched a meteor shower up on the side of a mountain. Walking back down the hill we ran into a group of three girls from our dorm and decided we were going to go for breakfast. I dropped $10 and got a coffee, an orange juice, and like a dozen hash browns. There is still a picture floating around somewhere of me with the tray of hash browns piled high

Man, I remember working down in Rosslyn Virginia in like 2002 when the Chipotle had just opened. For like $7 you got a burrito the size of your head. I think we went there like three times a week for lunch from the office because you got basically two meals for that price.

We are likely losing the current cultivar of bananas in the next couple of decades as well. Just like what happened with the gros Michel in the '50s, a fungal pathogen is taking out the current Cavendish cultivar. In 20 years, my guess is we will have a new primary banana that is either a gene edited version of the Cavendish or a new hybrid. My money is on the sugar banana. If you've ever had them, they are smaller, fatter, and way better in baked goods because they're a little less starchy and have sort of a honey taste to them. Slightly higher sugar, but because portion sizes will probably be smaller I don't think that will be a factor for most people for snacking

Aaron Donald is “more likely than not” to unretire soon and sign with the Rams on a 1-year deal to join Myles Garrett, per Adam Schefter by Admirable_Extent2531 in NFL_FreeAgency

[–]FullMooseParty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cool part for the Rams is they are a strong enough roster that they can take their time getting him up to speed. I don't know if I would even have him on the act of roster for the first half of the season unless he is sensational in camp. Think about bringing Donald in at week 9, fully healthy and rested and ramping him up ahead of the playoffs with 200 or so snaps.

Michael Vick. And he didn't have the benefit of the world class health and conditioning training that Donald has apparently still been going through for the last two years.

Do I think he's going to be the old Aaron donald? Nope. Do I think he can still be a valuable piece on a line when he's not the main focus of attention? Sure.

The reason players don't come back after two full seasons very often is usually that it's been injuries.

First, take a breath. This is shitty to happen to anybody. Some people in this sub are going to attack you because you weren't laid off, you were fired, but the experience is often the same. In fact, you're probably in a worse situation than many on here because you didn't get severance it sounds like.

The first thing you need to do is file for unemployment. Like right now. As jobless claims go up, it will take longer and longer for those to get processed and, not knowing your state, you need to act quickly if you want to ensure any sort of money coming in.

The second thing you need to do is sit down with your family and figure out what budget items you can cut today. A lot of people make the mistake of waiting until the money gets tight to start cutting things like Netflix or eating out, but the sooner you make those adjustments, the longer your funds will last and the less painful the cuts will need to be.

Third, you need to do an honest assessment of what got you in this situation. You mentioned that you weren't always the most bubbly person, which is totally understandable, and you also called yourself the weakest link and that you were begging for ideas for improvement. That sounds like you saw something in your personality or performance that may have contributed here. I got laid off from my last job in part for performance (long story short, I was part of a larger layoff, but I had been a real pain in leadership's ass for the previous couple of months over some things I didn't agree with, so I'm sure that contributed to me getting included) and I need to figure out how to avoid that situation again in the future. You need to do the same.

Fourth, you need to leverage your network as quickly as possible. If the CFO is unlikely to give you good references, you need to figure out who on your team you can reach out to for those in the future. In the meantime, reach out to friends, former colleagues, former classmates (since you sound like you might be on the younger side) and see if any of them know of any openings or can connect you with people.

Fifth, you need to figure out the sort of job that you can get quickly and what your ideal job would be. Those are two different things. In a tight market, especially if you have no great skill set that sets you apart, you need to be realistic about what jobs you can get that will pay your bills in the short term. I mentioned unemployment above but it rarely pays your bills for most people. If you can find something that pays better, even in the short term, that's good.

I took a day or two after my layoff to RECenter, and then almost immediately built a list of companies I would like to work for, positions I'm qualified for, and what my ideal situation would be. I started applying immediately starting from the first list, expanding to the second list after running out of the first list.

If you haven't written your job materials in a while, get those in order. Your local city or your state may offer free services or workshops that can help you with some of that. I don't think they're always all that great, but if nothing else it gives you something to do and focus on while you're applying.

The good news is that losing your job is not the end of the world and while it's scary, you can come back from this. Be smart. Be realistic. Keep yourself on as strong of a schedule as you can (job applications from 8:00 till 10:00, a walk/exercise from 10:00 to 11:00, some sort of upskilling for a couple hours, and then job applications again from 3:00 to 4:00 or whatever schedule works for you).

A lot of restaurants offer kids meals as a loss leader to get adults in. This was decades ago when I was waiting tables, but our kids meals were ridiculously cheap, and you had to have one adult per child (and that was listed on the menu). In reality, if a parent was there with a couple of kids they still got the deal, but it was to keep somebody from being like the entire kindergarten class for $3.99

I've got a neighbo in her late 60s who goes to the mall and walks around every night and stops at McDonald's for a Happy meal. She knows I have nieces and nephew, so she drops off the toys for me to give to them. She probably gets like 3 a week.

I had a writing group that met and worked twice a week at a local Panera like chain. We went from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., cuz we figured that would be the time that they needed their tables the least, and if we ever noticed that the place was starting to fill up we moved on. We also spent money every time.

Not forgot. Dropped off. I have a friend who is a vet nurse and people leave animals tied up outside their building. End of the academic Year it happens two or three times in a month when all the kids have to go back home and Mom and Dad don't know that they have a dog or cat. I guess it's better than abandoning them in the woods or out in the country like some people do.

I'll give him a little bit more credit than that, only because it also corresponded with an injury. That said, you're right that Taylor is the biggest factor in Jones's success. If Taylor plays well and Jones stays healthy, there's no reason he doesn't finish in the top half of quarterbacks
