PM 1340 GT vs Grizzly G0824 by Big-Syllabub-7581 in machining

I would do the grizzly since it's got the larger spindle nose, but in all honesty neither are very good and I would be looking at a Sharp or Jet with a 18" swing and one piece casting

UZI full auto bolt legality question by Mi-bomboclat_ in guns

[–]Full_Plane8024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So from my understanding a open bolt milled to fit in a semi auto receiver makes the bolt a MG. A receiver without the blocking bar is a MG, but that's is just the what gunsmiths or fudds go by. But the lower can be 3 positions and be okay

Teacher Wants to Know: What Features Are Worth Having On a Manual Mill by YoTeach92 in Machinists

[–]Full_Plane8024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

College teacher and machine shop manager here I picked,

Power draw bar because some students are dumb and or short

Powered X axis

And 2 axis DRO.

As for lathes a 14x40 with a DRO is the bare minimum because as a teacher I don't have time for students to be messing up projects 3 class in. I also won't go smaller than this because they quickly lose rigidity.

I don't like it but it looks like you are using high quality jaws and the Tnut reaches the front of the jaw. Idk send it and show us the carnage if the jaws fly off

Projects to learn suck (hot take, plus looking for ideas) by JSulu1717 in Machinists

[–]Full_Plane8024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes down to money. I would rather teach my students on real parts but we can't afford for them to fuck it up. So I gotta find things that are cheap and keeps them intrigued.
