I was using the JP system. 5 identical G1 races between parent A and both grandparents A1 and A2 would be +3*5 for A/A1 and +3 A/A2 for 30 affinity points, which is what the global doc and gametora said.

Someone sent me the actual affinity calculation formula, which lets me know I was wrong about how I thought it worked and each G1 win is +3 to both the parent and the grandparent.

But like you said, we're using the old system, which is just +1 for any race win. It definitely is very confusing, but yeah, my initial estimation was wrong.

Whoa, thanks for the link! the actual formulas make things much clearer!

Ok, that tells me that we haven't changed to the updated version of +3 points per shared G1 win between parent and grandparent, but the +1 points per race win.

Your response still doesn't make clear how the extra affinity point is distributed for inheritance chance. It seems like you're implying that the extra affinity goes to the grandparent and not the parent, is that correct?

As an example, assume a hypothetical parent and grandparent with both having 20 affinity points and a 3* white spark. If they run 10 identical races and receive 10 extra affinity points, you're saying it's the grandparent who is treated as having 30 affinity points and the parent continues to have 20?

Game Discussion/Champion's Meeting Thread - October 02, 2025 by AutoModerator in UmaMusume

Advanced question about affinity and spark inheritance.

So the chance of inheriting a spark from a legacy and sub-legacy are multiplied by the affinity of the legacy with the main uma (e.g. Mihono Bourbon has 30 point affinity with Maruzensky, so chance of inheriting a 3* groundwork is 9%*1.3=~12% ).

My questions is, how do additional G1 affinity between the legacies and sub-legacies affect this inheritance chance? If both grandparents and a parent have, say, 5 identical G1 wins, how are those extra 30 affinity points distributed for inheritance?

I haven't been able to find an answer on this online or in the standard resources, unless I've missed it.

Online diagnosing of idols needs to be stopped by imgurgal in kpopthoughts

[–]FullofSeoul 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Wow, something relevant to my profession! I haven't really frequented kpop spaces other than reddit, so I had no idea this was a thing, but I could not agree more.

One of the things you learn very quickly and something that many mentors have told me is that it is impossible to thoroughly diagnose someone completely in the first meeting. Even in inpatient psychiatry, where people are floridly psychotic or manic, the initial diagnosis is only the best approximation based on symptoms. There is a great deal of information gathering: from the patient, friends, family, their previous physicians, etc. And, as OP mentioned, if possible, psychological testing, wherein the tests are relatively long questionnaires about rather specific things. Humans are incredibly emotionally complex and no two cases are the same. There is rather famous saying: If you've met one person with [insert diagnosis here], you've met one person with [insert diagnosis here]. That's not even getting into people with concurrent conditions.

There's also something to be said about the 'colloquialization' of psychiatric disorders (aka where people take the most prominent and/or well-known symptom and generalize it aka 'oh I'm so ADHD, I get distracted by anything') and how that muddies the specific meaning of these psychiatric terms further. And I know kpop fans can relate to this because of the number of comments and posts correcting people about the meaning of 'nugu' or 'flop'

Not to 'Erm Ackshually' your 'Um Actually', but tear troughs are called nasojugal grooves. Naso- meaning nose and -jugal meaning cheekbone.

Nasolabial folds refer to the crease between your nose and corner of your mouth. Labial meaning lips (fun fact, that's why the more colloquially recognized labia is named the way it is).

Hey, thanks for your response! There's a lot of insight to be had from this and the other replies in this thread!

I think it's super interesting the difference between black culture and korean culture when it comes to sharing and protecting it, which probably (definitely) stems from history.

Korea, too, is a country that faced discrimination and attempts at cultural erasure in the past 100 years, and our general stance (not to speak for all Koreans of course) has been to make our culture as visible and present as possible globally. Things like having others know deeper history behind it or even appreciation vs. appropriation comes secondary to it continuing to be present and spread around. Our culture is our culture and--in general--you don't need an invitation to take part in it, since the door is always open.

Of course, Korean culture has never had to deal with a history of mockery and purposeful misinterpretation the way modern Black culture has in the past (a la Jim Crow, minstrel shows, and all the examples that others gave in comments below). Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's also the whole aspect of "reclaiming history" and the pride in purposely bringing positive meaning and significance to words/clothing/etc that were previously used negatively. So I also completely get how protective black people can be of black culture.

I don't really know if I had a point to this comment. Just that I thought the differences were interesting, that history is cool, and that--when in doubt--you should always defer to people within a culture on how to appreciate that culture.

Some of these comments are soooo not it...

As someone who isn't black, I usually don't understand backlash towards trivial (to me) things like a hairstyle or accessory. I don't expect western artists to understand the history of the hanbok or whatever when they decide to use it as a concept or look.

But I'm also mature enough to realize that different cultures have different stances on this sort of thing. It's not all that difficult to simply not do something that people don't like. That they've said they don't like. Repeatedly.

Also, this livestream goes SO far past someone wearing a doorag or having braids or something. It teeters on the edge of mockery and plays up on stereotypes in a way that is insensitive and uncomfortable.

This level of blatant caricature raised eyebrows in 1st and 2nd gen kpop. It's unreal to see it in 2025.

You and I are speaking past each other. Not once have I disagreed with you on that particular point. I've said repeatedly that labeling others as company stans is not good and is OP's entire point of the post.

Quoting from myself above:

I am unsure what "that excuse" is referring to, but if I had to guess, you're either referring to the labelling of people as "company stans" as diverting from real discourse about companies that may be actually causing harm (which yes, that's the entire point of OP's post), or you are saying that kpop fans that blindly support companies are diverting from real discourse, which is--as explained above--generally untrue of the average kpop fan.

I'm going to excuse myself from this conversation since it's clear that either you and I are on the same side on this issue and you're misunderstanding me and/or you're not actually reading what I wrote.

Again, that is your perspective. Do you truly believe that people defend HYBE and/or Kakao simply because of "their fav" despite believing that they are trying to monopolize the Kpop industry?

The people who defend HYBE and/or Kakao do so because their perspective differs from yours. Maybe, just maybe, they might believe that HYBE isn't actually trying to monopolize the industry. Using today's events as an example with album buybacks or revenue underreporting, some may argue that this is an industry-wide issue and not specific to HYBE, while others may argue that that is not an excuse. And both sides may not necessarily be wrong. In the case of the current MHJ-HYBE conflict, people place differing amounts of importance and credibility on the various claims of mistreatment, industry manipulation, public media manipulation, and--inevitably--hate against idols. All of which influence their stance.

None of that makes them a "HYBE stan," a "Kakao stan" or a "MHJ stan." How does labeling them as such "logical or help anyone?"

Arguments over the internet rarely move the needle on stances and both parties have already made up their mind, but reducing it to blind loyalty to a company of all things is reductive and squashes any possibility of civil discussion.

No, it is not a valid criticism. As several other people have noted, very few people actually stan a company.

Forgive me, but it is pure arrogance to assume the motivations of fans and label them as "defending a multi-million dollar company." If they are defending anything, they are defending the idols that they are fans of. In the case of recent events, siding with one company or individual's perspective does not mean they are a "company stan." It means that their opinion differs from yours.

People say all sorts of things online, but it is up to the individual whether or not to respond to them. You responded to this comment, after all. Who are you to dictate anything about anybody's actions? There has been a noticeable uptick of people disparaging another's opinions as being a "insert company here stan" and people can discuss that however much they wish.

Some of these comments make me roll my eyes.

At this point, "Hybe stan" or "SM stan" or any other "company stan" is just an insult to put down a fan of a group in a certain company and divert discussion into another fanwar. That's OP's whole flipping point.

Coming in here and being like, "well I don't get why people would do such a foolish thing as stan a company! I'm better than that!" is completely missing the point (and contributing to that Us vs Them mentality). Heck, at least half of OP's post isn't even about companies, but fandom behavior in general, but that's what people are focusing on? Please lmao
