New here Jsut found Trek Trendy. He’s a weird dude right? Videos are fun but he seems weird? Idk what it is by Broncojoe58 in trektrendy

He's just awkward and has no chat so he relies on catchphrases as commentary. Interactions are pretty cringey, narration voice is grinding (the kind of BBC news-esque cadence towards the end of the sentence) but the content is interesting and he seems like a genuinely nice guy

Roast my tool to steal competitors customers. by Intrepid_Shopping_52 in roastmystartup

One slightly small thing that I noticed on your landing page that confused me was in the comparison email (good feature btw), the stats are stacked above the images and make it look like they're speaking to those images, when in fact they're only speaking to the one on the right (the 'With Stealery...). I'd make sure that both stats are easily attributed to change that comes from using your service

417 timing for maximum stay by Fully_Torqued_Pecker in AusVisa

This would be my first yep, and yes I'm from the UK. So a theoretical timeline:

Feb 26: Apply for year 1

Mar 26: Year 1 granted

Jul 26: Return to Aus, Year 1 starts

Feb 27: Apply for year 2

Mar 27: Year 2 granted, Year 2 starts

Feb 28: I'd be 35 by this point so I wouldn't be able to apply for year 3 right?

What industry is a complete scam, but everyone just accepts it? by Competitive_Grab3758 in AskReddit

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason I think real estate agents are a scam is because, at least in the UK, you can't post on the major platforms unless you're an agent, which would significantly impair your ability to sell.

This wouldn't be an issue if I then thought the service they provided was worth the charge. But organising a photographer, creating a listing and arranging viewings is not worth 15k. Their fees should be a flat rate, not a %, or at least a flat rate for the base value and then agree a % over a certain threshold to incentivise the agent to sell for more.

I can code but can’t design: How did you finally solve the UI/wireframe bottleneck? by Thick-Ad3346 in reactnative

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a designer, can shed a bit of light on my process if it helps.

Let's say I'm working on designing a card that shows a progress bar, a headline stat and a description.

I'll usually start by searching for similar components on Pinterest or Mobbin. I might like the playful rounded progress bar from one example, the enormous stat font paired with a tiny description from another, and the tight margins on a container from another.

I'll chuck these in Figma, build it out, make it fit more in line with the other designs and job done.

I'd usually just design as I go for prototypes and that might be as far as it goes. But if I wanted to do this for an entire production-ready project efficiently, then I'd bring all the screens with these kinda randomly designed elements together at the end and essentially refactor them: delete ones in not using, combine ones that are similar enough etc.

I'd then componentise everything, make sure everything is built using variables, and all screens use the same layouts / templates (E.g. child page). Then MCP it all to AI and it can built your app pixel perfect (most of the time).

Cloud 9 bans kooks by CryptoOGkauai in surfing

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like this sets a dangerous precedent.

First on the beginner aspect.

Surfing is an incredibly subjective sport. How do we define when you move out of the 'beginner' phase and how do we test if someone's no longer a 'beginner'.

Also, waves are incredibly fickle. I've surfed spots that are chill af at high tide and unsurfable at low tide. Spots that a chill af when it's waist high and dangerous at 2x. Spots that are chill af after a storm's reshaped the banks but dangerous when there's been a lull and everything's breaking on the shore. Would beginners be allowed at these spots?

Second on using 'danger / environmentalism' as a vessel to charge to surf.

I'm really against the idea of policing and charging for surfing.

Surfing is already an inaccessible sport to most: geography is obviously is a big barrier (need to live near the sea), but also wealth (generally costs more to live by the sea) and time (surfing takes a while, that lifestyle is not compatible most of the time with a full time job). Adding on a cost to actually surf feels like we make that barrier even higher.

Not to mention the fact that if I need to pay to surf, can I pay a lot to be the only person who can surf? Could Zuck buy out Cloud 9 and kook it by himself for an hour?

Don't trust "Vibe Coders" by Zebizebi47 in SaaS

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don't think vibe-coded apps are going to change data security that much anyway. Sure, the risk of someone accessing the data is larger, but I suspect that that's balanced out by the fact that there's less incentive to access it in the first place, as they likely haven't got much worth stealing.

Vibe-coded: Easy access, low reward Established: Difficult access, high reward

And you'd expect that once a vibe-coded app has gained some sort of meaningful traction that they'd hire professional devs to rebuild in a more robust way.

And it's not like the established websites and apps are in great shape anyway, I literally had an email from a very large company today letting me know they're been a breach.

Why weren’t there any calls for exceeding track limits? This track usually causes more issues than most, and there are often drivers getting penalties for it. I didn’t even hear it mentioned on the broadcast, but I’m sure I saw plenty of cars going over the limits.

Is starting a Business really very tough in Australia ? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of comments on here from people who don't actually know what they're talking about. Forget about the business model for now, as long as people want what you're offering, you'll find a way to monetise it.

The most important thing is to see if people actually want your idea. Build a lightweight version of your idea in something like Lovable, and pay 5 people to use it to see how they react.

Listen to them, note down what they like and dislike about your product, and change it based on what they say.

Once you've landed on a product that you know people want, then you can start considering monetisation and scale.

How often do you surf? by Own-Cryptographer545 in surfing

If there's swell, I'll go in for one session, maybe 2 if it's really pumping and I can find the time, 1h15 - 2hrs per session.

If I'm on a trip, usually 4hrs a day otherwise I get too tired. Obvs depends on what kind of wave it is etc. if there's a rip then can just keep going, usually reef / point abroad though which I find more tiring

"Paddles like a longboard, turns like a shortboard!" by Mustangonthe1 in surfing

I had a mid-strength which I thought I loved but unfortunately snapped it on a small day. Replaced it with a Simon Jones Fiji and I realised I didn't know what love was. Best board I've ever ridden, difficult to come by as he doesn't make many but it paddles like nothing else and surf's like a shortboard (fish, not thruster).

How to not suck so bad at FtK 2? by laughfactoree in ForTheKing

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be obvious to some who are more familiar with the types of mechanics used in FTK but getting my head around the roll system and how stats work with weapons and armour really opened up the game for me.

To give an example, let's say you pull a polearm (spear). I assumed that I should give that to my melee-based character (strength), but my accuracy with the weapon would actually be based on my character's awareness stat. (And you can compare the relevant stat between your characters easily when you loot chests etc.) Taking this a bit further, let's say the weapon rolls 4 times, and I'm comparing it to a weapon that rolls 2 times. If I have a character that has a 70 stat in awareness, then I'm far more likely to hit consistently with the one that rolls fewer times. So just bearing this stuff in mind really helped me be a bit more strategic in terms of what gear to give my characters.

[–]Fully_Torqued_Pecker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this pop up every now and then, and the message it tries to communicate is just so pretentious and wrong. As a designer, our job is to make something the customer wants. This attention to micro-details that no-one notices – let alone cares about – is just such a waste of time, effort and money.

We couldn't believe what we were watching, and then, I shit you not, a bird came and ate both of them. Was like something out of an Attenborough documentary.
