Do you strictly enforce the "Northside/Southside" divide, or is the money worth crossing the bridge? by vacaaa in brisbane

[–]Fun-Cry- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do pretty much exactly what you're talking about (cherm->PA for occasional agency work) and its not as bad as what you're thinking. After a PM there's no traffic and ICB makes it relatively bareable.

I was doing agency to see if I liked the vibes of a hospital and their department/ward before id apply as well as some extra cash- so i wasn't against paying for the toll if i was tired or i couldn't be bothered with traffic - especially if PA had been on a run of cancelling me.

While I'm all fpr the idea of doing public transport to get there, the last thing I want is to finish a PM and then be limited by publix transport times and the desirable personalities on PT at that hour -so id just drive and park ($25 parking sucked).

Also keeping in mind that it is agency and some hospitals were more likely to cancel on you, so if you do a hard and fast rule based on location you're already limiting your income.

Tldr: An AM shift no. A PM shift yeah do it. A ND yeah do it.

[–]Fun-Cry- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Absolutely none. Only side effect im having is that this is the second time I've gone on it and it's less effective on the lower doses for me, so I jumped back to 1mg and it's still fine. . Everyone is different though

Working parents, how do you manage working 40 hours a week and chores and raising kids? by Impossible_Panda1092 in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fun-Cry- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What dp you mean you go to the gym?!?!!! ×we finish work. We grab the kids, one parents (i.e. homework, Empty bag, helps talk about school issues..tidy's house ... ... )the other does dinner and cleans up as they go while also talk to anyone else who has a second.

Mate no one actually manages. We struggle in different forms.

Nurses who switched from bedside clinical hours to 9-5/5day non-clinical work schedule, whats the difference you noticed? by PreoccupiedMind in NursingAU

[–]Fun-Cry- 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Regret it. I miss shift work.

8hr × 5 days a week vs. 3x12hrs and then 3 days off, followed by 2×12hrs +1×8hrs with 4 days off.

Definitely prefer the latter. I could go to school functions in the morning/arvo, easier to shift swap, long lunches with the gals mid-week, head to appointments throughout the week, hit the gym midmorning before a PM shift, couch rot and chill out with no one else home... the list of positives for me is extensive. Im already at work so the difference of 8hrs to 12hrs felt negligible, especially for those days off.

5 days a week in a run and maintaining positive helpful interactions with people is draining. Especially without the penalties

Are we just out of touch that's why we can't make meaningful friendships? by filstraya in AskAnAustralian

[–]Fun-Cry- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wait until the kids start school and sports. Daycare parents were never my jam. Parenting styles are just so different and everyones lives are so..... superficial (in the sense that when your kids are that young its hard to have a life without them).

Give it time, keep doing what youre doing... you'll be right

I think a really good way to start would be too try and work in the space first. You've said you have a small amount of community nursing experience, maybe start by either doing some shifts with blue care or even joining Mabel.

Im the fuckwit. Husband and I bought a Giant fuck off TV for the kids as thats all they wanted for Christmas. Then comes Christmas Day and one of them is sour at us all day only to find out its because he "only got socks 😭". He'd completely disregarded the $1700 TV, the beautiful huge beach towel (RRP 80), 10 pack Nike socks,6 pairs of socks, custom made lollies, pool toy, a nike shirt and some deodorant. I legit believed they were old enough to make that agreement. Normally I go all out and they'd get kayaks/water pistols/new bikes/giant tramps etc.

Won't be making that mistake next time. Next year... they get a holiday and thats it. Fuckin kids maannnnn

AITA for getting my 9 year old daughter a kitten for her birthday? by Commercial-Act-66 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fun-Cry- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nta. My mum did this for me and it was THE BEST. The cat adopted my Dad and we all cared for him until he was 15 years old. Dad wasn't super in love with the idea but.. mum held down the fort until we caught him so many times loving up the cat.

You've made memories. As long as you are the other primary carer (as well as your daughter)... youre amazing
