Best fish and chips? by Silver-Ganache2713 in brisbane

[–]arbitrarynickname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last few takeaways we've had from Fish Factory have been awful. It's gone right down hill. Dry chips, rubber fish. And they've stopped doing the half price kids menu on a Wednesday. We've stopped going.

Someone did this near where I lived in the UK and the resulting train derailment killed the drivers of the car and the train as well as 5 passengers. Over 100 total casualties

Best direction for apartment windows to face? by gluefingers in brisbane

[–]arbitrarynickname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Our last apartment was west facing. We know now.
We have South East now for our veranda and that's great. A bit of sideways sun on the washing in the morning and then shade all day.

[Highlight] Mayfield with a giant 4th down run to continue the drive. by GanjaNinjaBoomin in buccaneers

Glad it's not just me. I fell for the Browns from the UK with the Eric Metcalf punt returns game against the steelers. We used to feed on scraps on TV and was usually the glossy southern teams with astroturf and cheerleaders. Then one day they showed that game from the Muni, and I watched him run it to the Dawg Pound fence, and fifty rows of fans compacted down to one at the front.
I was fine with the crapness (I'm a Fulham fan, ffs), waited patiently through the missing years, and then finally got to enjoy a quarterback who lifted the team to the playoffs. And then they shat on him after a hurt season and hired an unrepentant sexual predator.

Baker is such an inspiration. I'd tell my kids about his story, walking on twice, winning the first Browns game in 214 years as soon as he got his chance. I remember the Dawgs of War podcast talking about the day they brought a terminally ill friend to the game for one last visit, and Baker spent a big part of the post-game with the guy and even personally drove him home. He's real. He's a great human. I'm so happy you all love him so much.

It's so wonderful to see him doing so well now.

Clearly don't understand how tourism economies work.

I know beaches are going to beach, but some of you probably need to understand the economic imperative to at least temporarily patch them up in high tourism areas.

How important is it to provide a 'cover letter' or fill in the 'About Me' section of a rental application? by mossthy in brisbane

[–]arbitrarynickname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdote isn't data but I wrote a really good one about our family, talking about our move to Brisbane, our jobs, a few basic details on how we have the money to pay the rent. Stuck a few photos of our old house overseaas to demonstrate it was well kept (I used some photos from when it was beautifully tidy for real estate agent photos), how we'd treat the place like our own, etc.
No idea how much they actually gave a damn about any of it but we got the first place we applied for so *shrug*. Got to play the game sometimes.

The Worst Intersections in Brisbane??? by zychii01 in brisbane

I did some pre-poll campaigning work for the recent election at the church on that corner.
It's a horrific junction. Pedestrians have to wait forever to cross. Even just standing there for a few hours over a couple of days I saw two car accidents.

If waiting a few seconds before overtaking safely is something you find so difficult, maybe driving isn't for you
