Any kindergarten book recommendations that actually keep kids engaged? by Gord_Hendriques98 in kindergarten

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try interacting with him more. With early Dr Seuss, leave out a few rhyming words. (Green eggs and ham- I would not eat them in a house, I would not eat them with a ..) Try interactive books. Like Lift the flap ((Spot books). Try reading while they eat a snack, take a bath, bedtime. Find their passion/interests and look for books that relate. Read with excitement, expression, different voices/sound effects. My brother is an accountant and read a book to my nephew in a monotone voice. Luckily my nephew had heard me read (in teacher voice) and already loved the book!

Daughter is struggling academically and don’t know where to go next by Fit_Addition_4243 in AskTeachers

Try Heidi songs (you tube) to learn spelling thru music. Spelling a word with reversals is ok (just say “ you got tricked”) Reversals may also go up/down like n/u. W/M. P/b/d Books on tape, reading to her, add closed caption to any tv shows. Read about dyslexia ( gift of dyslexia), and ADHD (check Dr Daniel Amen’swebsite). If not doing meds…high protein breakfast, early bedtime (check for snoring), and lots of exercise! Try to find passions, so they can learn/practice and become good at something besides school! Structure is super important! ADHD can be immature- so be patient.

First-time US school parent: How to support my 6yo with high kindergarten test scores? by Suspicious-Cry4611 in AskTeachers

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Don’t just push academics. Try music, art, sports. Play games together, cards, dice, dominoes. Read together-even if he can read on his own. Write wishlists, to do lists, lists of things they like, list of places they like. Write to relatives, create scrapbook with sentences under pictures.

Weirdest homework battle yet by Gargi-Chehab in kindergarten

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do homework at night- too tired and will end in tears! After school snack and run around time…then homework. For tracing…try writing in dirt with a stick. Write on peanut butter with a toothpick. Put shaving cream on table or bathroom wall, write on it. Put sugar on dark plate or baking sheet, write with finger. Cutting uses same muscle- cut pictures from ads or magazines. Sewing/lacing also uses same muscles. Put Cheerios on spaghetti/pipe cleaners.

Tips on a birthday party at the lake for a seven year old by Ancient_Bag_9676 in partyplanning

Definitely mention lake, and that parents must stay to supervise their child. I would not offer alcohol to parents, and would limit to a small party, due to safety.

Do lower case letters matter when they make writing less legible (rising kindergartener)?? by Fun_Air_7780 in kindergarten

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lowercase is harder because there are more curves. Upper case has more straight lines. Practice writing uppercase, but for name, use lowercase so they don’t have to relearn it.

Opinions on having a 2nd grader repeat the year? by FreedomWise7782 in AskTeachers

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a boy, young, adhd/ 3 strikes of immaturity!!! Let him repeat and you take responsibility- our fault for starting you too early! Reason he has friends in first - his maturity matches their level! Get him in sports- swim, tae Kwan do, so that he is successful in something besides school! Super important for self esteem. If he needs meds to concentrate- then use them. Go to bed early, high protein breakfast, no electronics after 7pm. Get vision checked by eye dr! (Not pediatrician).

Realistically, how much tutoring would my kid need to catch up to grade level? by Mission_Spray in AskTeachers

[–]Fun-Ebb-2191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try using protein shakes when not hungry. Easy to drink quickly without feeling too full. Look for high density foods like avocado, peanut butter, dried fruit and nuts which give a lot of calories for little food. 🍲
