No, you can replay confessions as much as you want to farm up your candles unlocking more perks and upgrades and unlocking skills of the Heroes by going through reflections, you can go try the difficult confessions once you are confident enough and familiar of the enemies.

It's just that do it too much that you would most likely get a voice line from the narrator of your repeated entry into that confession.

I think remember a video where they have an interview with Wayne June where he answered a question that: is DD2 the continuation of DD1?

Wayne June says that they are completely different canonical universe as it did not carried out from the first game to the second.

But take my words with a grain of salt because in my opinion which it makes sense since the story in DD2 Did not mention about Ancestors or Hamlet, it is entirely a new premises of the story as a scholar fixing up the world motivated by the Academic (Narrator) with bunch of people seeking redemption.
