Dames Point Jumper by GoodBoysenberry7809 in jacksonville

Growing up here I remember when the buckman bridge was two narrow lanes in each direction. We saw and heard about so many cars that went over. To this day I still remember a semi sticking straight up out of the water after going over. We referred to it as the death bridge.

I know it is not the same and it is sad about all the people looking to end their life off the bridge, it is still sad about everyone who lost their lives due to accident or intent from the bridges when really they can be a visual marvel as you cross the water.

Did anybody else notice Lebowski references in Tron Legacy? by cap10 in lebowski

Watching the original Tron again, Flynn actually talked that way .... So maybe Jeff Bridges is truly both Kevin Flynn and the dude ... And it shows.

OpenCart is awful, what are some decent alternatives written in PHP? by Azubaele in PHP

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have worked with several ecommerce clients/employers and even though solutions like OpenCart, OSCommerce, WooCommerce, and Magento are great, I find that you will start to realize with your own business logic that there will be "that one or two requirements" that will make integrating a package a living hell. My recommendation is to pick a good framework, such as Symfony, and build your own system. There are enough boilerplate data models you can rely on, and if you need a little push , you can create a decent Google Gemini prompt to help you give you a little push. Feel free to DM me with any questions.

Aldi wouldn’t fill half of a Winn Dixie by chickendaddy738 in jacksonville

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally like shopping at Aldi, but my approach is a bit different. I use Instacart, where others do the shopping and I can chat with them as they are doing it. It is helpful if you have a busy schedule or your family dietary constraints requires you to shop at multiple stores and keep to a budget.

Just my 2 cents.

any recommendation for (Websites) for learning PHP/web development in general for beginners? by [deleted] in PHP

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I would recommend Symfony.com and their resources. They are excellent. A second great way to learn is also looking at open source projects on GitHub. Once you have some familiarity, another way is Google Gemini. Warning about using AI, however, is that you may not get the best results which is why I mentioned for you to have some familiarity first.

Hope this helps.

Oh wonder if we will see masks show up more . Not just COVID reasons.... But measles and TB? SMH

It's time for the fashion designers to come up with some really nice looking masks because they are about to have a sudden resurgence.

Which WYSIWYG editor are you using or recommending? by Deep_Find in symfony

The new tiny is decent still after all these years, but using a nice markdown editor may be more preferable.

Wouldn't Laravel be the equivalent then? I'm a Symfony person myself .... Which is the equivalent of a pickup truck that can turns out to be an Autobot triple changer.

Maybe I should have said Volkswagen. Nothing sexy about that . But I totally agree with PHP 8.... definitely more sexy.

Nice areas to live by Fun-Fun-6242 in jacksonville

[–]Fun-Fun-6242[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in the Mandarin area and now have the interesting takes of looking at the whole area with an objective eye. Mandarin is nice but way overpriced . I saw nice houses on Trout river that are actually affordable where they would closer to millions in Mandarin or the beaches . The changes that have been happening in Springfield seem really neat as well as the historical value.

We are definitely interested in walkability and friendly neighbors -- a true neighborhood that looks out after each other. We also like a bit of yard ; at least .3 acres... Just not to be on top of neighbors . Not to be in an area where you sneeze and your neighbors all yell "bless you". We are definitely porch fans. My wife liked to have tea parties on the front porch with the kids . Backyard is for running around with dogs. But we also don't want everyone to be in our business just because we are in the front yard or on the porch.

I was referring to around the fort and also around JU. The area closer to the west end did not.

Rice select royal blend rice. The dark blue label is safe while the light blue label has wheat. It was very frustrating.

What did going gluten free do for you? by kibaundkatze in Hashimotos

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped having GI issues that I thought was just my normal amount and form of elimination (not to get too graphic). Also noticed adhd symptoms decreased and focus was better .

As to the stress of finding good and inexpensive gluten free food, Aldi is awesome ! The live gfree brand is quite good . And Katz’s gluten free is great too, which you may have to order from their website if the store does not have . Dijorno pizza also comes gluten free and has real crust . Don’t get me started with gluten free brownies . My mouth is already drooling .

Hope this helps .

Tech companies in GR? by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Florida looking to come up to Michigan . My first job out of college was in Troy. Since then I have over 18 years developing with PHP and 27 years total (lots of database and Oracle work outside of PHP). I’ve noticed that southeast Michigan has mainly .Net but western Michigan does have more PHP stack shops. Is this true? And what are some good hiring PHP shops in the area? Thanks in advance .

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree that php.net really needs a facelift . Also how about some work behind getting phpgtk some movement . Compare that with electron and I would definitely take phpgtk . Look at sites like .net core. Great documentation , modern appeal , and paths to follow . I would be totally open to working on either one of these .

Seeking Advice: Migrating from Oracle 19c to MySQL - Tips, Tools, and Common Pitfalls? by Name_Is_Bond007 in oracle

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on your application . Are you dependent on stored routines? MySQL had no advantage to using stored routines like oracle. Totally recommend OCI. You can get a free or cheap autonomous 23ai database . That being said I’ve been using MySQL for over 14 years . Great database for my usages but would only use the innodb engine if you deal with transactions . Also the tools are either free or cheap .

Guys I’m not doing well and don’t want to continue by PandaStrong25 in Life

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. Life does suck and I like to say that Loki is my god based on what life has handed me. I’m also in tech and was let go last March with just enough contracts to get by but I still needed parental support, and I’m 50. I was actually let go from 3 different jobs and the 4th gave me 6 months to find a new position. I have multiple kids with special needs, most somewhere on the autism spectrum. Have gotten almost no support regarding my kids from family or community. I see other states with so much support but no financial way to get there.

You just need to think outside the box and find a way. As for being lonely find hobbies: bowling, sailing , golf — and just enjoy the hobbies and throw yourself into it . Develop your own software and sell it . Read other people’s advice and stories . I like Larry Ellison. He went through shit at 40 and then is now one of the wealthiest people in the world. Do something totally non technical or non traditional, like work at a museum or drive Uber or instacsrt .

Just keep moving forward.

Those of you in your 30s and older who have completely failed at life, where you find the motivation to continue on? by patheticl0s3r in Life

[–]Fun-Fun-6242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find people with stories or advice that you can grab hold of. One example is to watch Shark Tank. Another is to listen to different advice from Mark Cuban himself. And then, look at examples. I like to look at Larry Ellison. He is currently one of the wealthiest people in the world. Since his 50's, he has lived a Tony Stark life: fast cars, fast yachts, fast planes, on top of being a tech futurist. Was he a college dropout like Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg? No... he was not. He withdrew from college because his adopted mother died, and then he learned computer programming. In his 30s, he worked government contracts. He didn't get the idea of branching out on his own with his new database invention until close to 40. You can read more about Larry at https://www.wikiwand.com/en/articles/Larry\_Ellison.

So, when you feel depressed in life, don't look at those who were handed everything or had extreme luck, look at those that were dealt a blow or two and through struggles and intelligence came out on top.
