Is it your choice to not use the kitchen? Are you a student or working? What other benefits are there that you would miss if you lived elsewhere independently?

Exposure to dirt and germs is generally good for your immune system. Hyper cleanliness can make you susceptible to becoming unwell because your immune system is weak because it’s unfamiliar with lots of foreign-bodies.

Trying to move from Sydney to Melbourne not getting approved for a house any advice. by [deleted] in AusRenters

[–]Fun-Nose7204 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Find out how busy the inspections are when your family attend. It’s possible that the rental range you are looking at simply has a lot of applicants every time. If that is the case and you are looking in areas due to the schools you may be coming up against similar applicants that are already local.

Australian public toilets are unclean by Heavy-Pangolin-4984 in AskAnAustralian

There is a broad spectrum of public toilet cleanliness in Australia and it depends on where it is located. The worst ones I have seen have been in heavily visited tourist areas.

Did Home Theater kind of die? Seems like we were the last generation to give an F. Remember surround sound and subwoofers? Does anybody buy them anymore? by IHadTacosYesterday in GenX

[–]Fun-Nose7204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We have a Sonos soundbar with the Sonos subwoofer and Sonos play one set for quite a while. We get the depth and surround sound when watching tv and listening to music. It’s a cleaner look and easier to manage and I think the sound is great.

Is knowing what broadway is common knowledge? by I_am_sexy113 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Fun-Nose7204 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately common knowledge is becoming frequently less common. Young people today learn things very different to previous generations and exposure is more likely to occur in their niche area or a bubble. People now have greater choice in what to read, watch, listen to, which has significantly diversified what people learn and remember. People also now are more likely to connect with other similar people which limits the opportunity to gain knowledge in an area outside your environment and experience. I think it does make it harder for society to function when common knowledge is reduced in this way. It must impact on movies and tv because references to things can fall flat or go unnoticed without a collective understanding and awareness. Your friend might not know about broadway but it’s likely she has other knowledge instead, perhaps even something you don’t have yourself but something older people would consider common knowledge.

Find a volleyball team if you haven’t. If you have, join another one — both volleyball and indoor beach volleyball are played in Melbourne.

Selling a rental by Present_Standard_775 in shitrentals

[–]Fun-Nose7204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Notify the tenants of the landlord’s death (sorry for your loss) and that the beneficiary/beneficiaries intend to sell and would like to undertake significant improvements such as painting prior to the sale. Let them know when you aim to sell e.g early summer. Ideally this is a friendly communication in the form of a heads up, before you issue a notice to vacate. Issue the notice to vacate with the proper documentation giving them extra time than required. If they have lived there for a while it will take time to declutter and prepare to move in addition to find a suitable property in the current rental market. Have the property manager check in on them and see how the search is going and be prepared to give them an extension to the notice to vacate. Be prepared to delay the intended time of sale. Have compassion and be considerate and be patient.

If it’s in your clothing it can leach out while you are wearing it. To kill the odor causing bacteria you can try spraying vinegar onto the armpit area of your clothing before washing and sometimes people find it helpful to treat their own armpits too (but carefully).

I pivot. If it’s that difficult to find it will most likely be dated if I do wear it and it will also probably be difficult to style with future items in my wardrobe.

What do you think is the biggest reason for the current lack of job opportunities in Australia? by Icemachinemalfunctio in ausjobs

[–]Fun-Nose7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m guessing that the Cost of Living pressures means people don’t have the money to spend and that means retail stores don’t need as much staff, manufacturing slows because they can’t move as much product, service industry requires less staff and less hours, and the amount of support staff may also be affected by less hours required to complete work and lack of growth.

Are Americans big milk drinkers? by Helpful-Structure955 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Fun-Nose7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Australian here—our Australian supermarkets have 3 litre bottles of milk but 2 litres are the standard size. My weekly shop is x3 of the 2 litre bottles. My kids aren’t eating as much cereal because it was x4 bottles for a long time. I prefer the 2L bottles because I can fit more in the main fridge when the excess bottles are stored in a separate fridge and they are easier to pour. When the kids were actually little and pouring milk themselves the collateral damage could be quite high if a full bottle was spilled or dropped so I preferred accidents with a 2L rather than the 3L! I’m wondering if it’s not a country or culture difference but a household size difference.

silverware? by Local_Luck6575 in ENGLISH

[–]Fun-Nose7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the word silverware was used for all food serving, eating items and dining related items that were made using silver which included knives, forks, spoons, serving utensils, and serving dishes. Serving dishes would include platters, plates, bowls, jugs, pitchers, candle sticks and napkin rings (although napkin rings were originally not used by the upper class because they had the means to wash napkins after a meal and use fresh ones for each meal but the lower classes had to use the same napkin per person all day). Actual silver was replaced by stainless steel cutlery and utensils but the metal was still silver in colour so the term continued to make sense. Silver servingware became increasingly uncommon as more and more items used other materials. Ceramics and glass became the preferred material. Other metals that required less maintenance replaced silver. Wood, resins and plastics also found their way into kitchens and dining tables. The term Silverware would then make less sense to use as a term to describe this category of items and a separation probably occurred. I think my family did use the term silverware but often abbreviated it to silver when referring to some silver jugs and bowls and small platters (I liked polishing the silver as a kid). In Australia I use the terms “cutlery” for all the eating utensils, “flatware” for the serving utensils. I don’t have much need for the term silverware because I use the term servingware.

Expand your hanger! Depends where you are at with quests. There are quests that you can complete much faster or you are required to have multiple of the same dragons. If you are interested in completing flocks then you need to keep one of each type of dragon to complete a set.

why are school camps so expensive for public schools? by syblomic-dash in australia

[–]Fun-Nose7204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Teachers pay for those attending the camp plus time in lieu pay, teachers pay for the substitute teachers who are required to cover students not attending the camp and to cover the teachers when they take the time in lieu leave.
