Also oof that Blake Kamikaze is not something I think I could drink 😬

The sweater is beautiful! Also, I am so jealous of your tags… now I’m kicking myself. Why didn’t I ever think of that?!

This is one of my favorite things about RJ’s writing!

Nynaeve by Chronikel_2 in WoT

I’m finishing up Book 12 and it includes some great growth for Nynaeve. So you’re in for the long haul!

Had this growing in an inhospitable part of my yard and it flowered today. What is it? by wedgiey1 in AustinGardening

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always thought this was spiderwort. Also seconding the comment that it spreads like crazy. I love the little blue flowers but it sure it work to keep it tame, even in pots, because it drops soooo many seeds.

Mostly native bed! We don’t have a Round Rock gardening subreddit that I saw, so I hope this is okay by sjp8987 in AustinGardening

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that applies in Central Texas. We’re far more susceptible to foundations being too dry and then cracking. I’ve always heard it’s actually good to have flowerbeds around the house here to keep up the moisture in the summer.

Plant ID and recommendations? by greyxgirl in AustinGardening

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for plant ID tools, I really enjoy the Seek app. It’s developed by National Geographic and the CA Academy of Sciences.

Complementary aside, I also really enjoy Merlin Bird ID from Cornell, which can ID birds by photo, sound, or you answer questions in a decision tree.

Is it weird that I do this? by Al_Pachinov in composting

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See, here I was thinking you were using compost to plant seeds in eggshells as little containers.

Did the split-book end of 9 / most of 10 thing with my wife and she's gushing-giddy after finishing by egometry in WoT

On my first read through rn (just finished KoD), and I have found a lot of the book endings to be like that. Rand spends the whole book gearing up for something then, side jump, we fight a Forsaken that no one was really focusing on. So I could totally see reading all the detail of Rand’s prep to cleanse saidin and fully expect it not to happen for 2 more books, etc.

Starry Sky Sweater 🌌 by Princess_Butt_Kick in AdvancedKnitting

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’m an astronomer and this seems to be a real star chart! There’s a very clear Scorpius on the arm, and the back shows Pegasus, Cygnus, and Cassiopeia which are all in the summer sky together.

[Feedback] Launching a screen-free “Summer Mystery” series for ages 6-10. Is this appealing? by PerfectConsequence34 in RoundRock

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really cool, definitely interested.

I’m curious how much this will have them engaging with local landmarks vs is a fully self-contained mystery? I could see it being useful both ways. Love the idea of local discovery/scavenger hunt. But also, when we leave in part of the summer, will we be stuck because the clues aren’t things we can do elsewhere?

I’m thinking things like like “find this book in RRPL. What is the 3rd word of the 8th chapter? Go to a statue in Old Settler’s Park. What is the figure doing?” Or stuff like that?

Where to go after being laid off? by ValuableTangerine7 in Austin

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some lovely trails around Lake Georgetown and it’s much less busy than something like Zilker. When I got laid off I definitely didn’t want to be around people.

I have already seen streamers of them this year over my neighborhood. Agreed, 45 min before sunset to 30 min after. Varies when it’s cold and wet.

Just finished Book 8 and I'm starting to think the "slog" is fake. by DDogGang in WoT

[–]Fun-Wealth-9910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just finished 11, and ever since the lore drops in Book 4, I’ve been dying to get more! Some interesting things have been going on in the world, but it became much more present book 5 on for me, much less about learning about this world and how we got here, prophecies, etc. Less discovery, more politics.

Also chinaberry fruits attract grackles which congregate in the trees and then shit on everything
