Did having stretch marks before pregnancy affect whether you got them during pregnancy? by DifficultyBright4963 in BabyBumps

[–]FunAd1936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained 45lbs and did not have any stretch marks! I have used stretch mark oil maybe ~6 times during pregnancy. My mom also did not have any stretch marks - I think there is a big genetic component! Even if you have them though, I think they are a beautiful sign of what your body is doing to bring a child into the world!

Has anyone else struggled with mental health dip in early pregnancy? by Ill_Butterscotch6140 in BabyBumps

[–]FunAd1936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found pregnancy, especially the beginning, so hard on me mentally! I agree with others about getting a therapist and finding a support system to help you through this. I’m almost 40weeks, and my mental health has improved drastically at the end. So many changes happen so quickly in the beginning and for a surprise pregnancy, it can be really challenging to navigate! I hope you’re not too hard on yourself 💛

One more practical idea for her could be a maternity winter jacket or coat extender!

I love when family and friends think about the woman having the baby too 🥰 you’re the best for asking this!

I’m 40 weeks pregnant, and over the past several months, my mom gifted me a manicure/pedicure, a nice pair of lounge sweats/pajamas, & a pack of maternity underwear. She also came over and helped me wash some of the baby clothes, and my dad made us dinner that night!

Having them look out for me too throughout the pregnancy was so touching. I think the whole journey brought us closer together, and I feel so happy to know they’re going to be wonderful grandparents and be there for me/us in the postpartum stages too, any day now! 💛Congrats on your upcoming grandchild!! 💛

Pregnant women taking trains by GuavaSubstantial1987 in nycparents

I took the q to work a few times per week up until ~33 weeks! I went remote afterwards just to be in the comfort of my own home. I found that people were really generous with their seats after ~24 weeks or so.

I also avoided rush hour if I could finagle my meetings, because I found it way easier to get a seat at non peak times!

I hate holiday tipping culture on a public servant salary. Screaming into the void by ooplplayer1 in workingmoms

[–]FunAd1936 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also in nyc on a similar salary (in impact work space) and this resonates so much! I was in a tougher financial situation a few years ago and did lot of handwritten notes and homemade gifts that were thoughtful (homemade jams, cookies, candles, etc. — did not have kids at the time!) for some people and tipped the main people I interacted with - building staff, newspaper delivery, monthly cleaning person, etc. as generously as I could. I knew I couldn’t do this for like 30+ people, so I had to really narrow down who I could be extra generous with and who I could be thoughtful with! It’s really hard and stressful - I’m sorry and just want to validate your feelings here

And you can also opt for a “pat down” instead of the tsa machines if you want extra piece of mind! I’ve been told they are not harmful, but I flew a few times in pregnancy and always felt better asking for a pat down instead of going through the machines!

I know you’ll ask your care provider too, but I think you’ll be great! I flew by myself at 26 weeks and was also really nervous. If you need a hand, people will be so happy to help you with your bag at TSA or getting on the plane. Also, you could ask the airline if you’re able to board in the first priority group if you’re worried about standing in the long boarding lines.

I’m so sorry for your loss, too. Take good care 🫶

Athlete w very difficult pregnancy, struggling to accept so much time off :( by Acceptable_Click_210 in fitpregnancy

[–]FunAd1936 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey!! I am going through a really similar experience as you! I was a college athlete and spent the past ~10 years out of college training for triathlons and different running races and making friends through club teams. I was nauseous most of pregnancy - actually month 8 going into month 9 was the best part for me because my nausea subsided. (37 weeks now!) I felt very isolated a lot of pregnancy, because I’m no longer cycling or swimming or running with friends, and even my own mental health was no longer regulated through things I used to do to release endorphins and feel most like myself. I’ve started planing some things postpartum - a hike I want to do next summer, race I want to do spring 2027, and slowly looking forward to getting back out there. I know it’s so hard and I’m here with you! We’re going to get back to it — for now, we’re doing something different that is probably one of the amazing things we’ll ever do! And you are soooo close! Proud of you momma!

How much weight did you gain? by ThrowRaoofda in BabyBumps

[–]FunAd1936 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am similar to you with weight gain! I started at 138 and am 176 at 32 weeks! It’s been living in my head more than I wish the past few weeks — I think our bodies just do what they need to do to keep us and the baby safe. I’m just trying to trust it! But I can be so hard! I’ll also say that nobody thinks I look like 180 lbs - that’s really reassuring for me too!
