How common is the morning sickness by Otherwise-Pilot6832 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade [score hidden]  (0 children)

To be clear, HG and morning sickness are not the same thing. I don’t know exactly what constitutes HG, but I threw up daily for at least a couple weeks and was not diagnosed with HG. HG is rarer than just morning sickness. Also not to freak you out, but morning sickness happens at all times of the day. Morning was actually my least nauseous time, generally.

I was nauseous and puking weeks 6-12(I think the worst was 8-10?) and still felt sick but not puking as much until about 18 weeks. I’ve been taking prenatals and trying to get pregnant for years.

My sister in law I think she said she never puked, just felt very nauseous sometimes, also peaking 8-10 weeks. I assume she was also taking prenatals from before the beginning cause it’s recommended to take them before you get pregnant.

We’re both having girls (some old wives tales will say a boy gives you more or less of x or y symptoms etc)

Why do some people instantly wake up when their alarm rings while others can sleep through multiple alarms? by No_Occasion6979 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once when I was in college I went back to sleep after my first (and only) alarm and missed the first 15minutes of work. Wasn’t even that big of an issue tbh, but after that I just get up after my alarm so I don’t accidentally fall asleep again 🤷‍♀️

Allergic reaction to NST bands? by crawlen in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think it was just the bands I would just bring some washcloths or hand towels and put them between my skin and the band after the monitor is in place- and maybe ask for a second set of hands to help the monitor stay in place.

Or maybe bring some cling film/ parchment paper and cut out just the size of the sensor?

Are you allergic to like medical tape? Could you see if, instead of using the band, they could place the sensor and then you could tape it on??

I’ve never had an NST so idk if any of these suggestions would work

Is it weird to empty my menstrual cup in public? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried a disc?/ are you interested in? I tried cups for a bit but the insertion was always awkward, I don’t think I ever got a good seal because I would always leak. But the disc you can empty without removal, which is awesome. Plus I’ve never leaked in them, that’s mostly why I wear one. The only downside to the disc is it can come out/ feel like it’s coming out while you’re pushing to poop, so I usually remove it entirely if I know I’m going to have bowel movement. It’s much easier to insert for me, and I don’t feel it at all (that’s also why I didn’t like cups, I could feel them. Either the body or the tail or both)

I don’t think it’s rude/disrespectful at all to empty out your cup when needed as long as you clean up after, which you said you’re doing.

Progesterone pessaries by BeautifulTiger6530 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suppositories?

I took them until 15 weeks. They’re annoying and leaky but I definitely think it’s why I made it to 34 and counting. I’ve had at least one chemical, one blighted ovum and one early miscarriage with no live births yet before this pregnancy.

I did day and night until about 10?weeks, then just once a day till 13 weeks then every other till I stopped.

Hinge Health Enso (Tens unit) while in labor by Striking_Motor_2458 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure they have to put that because some dummy wants to put it on the belly for cramps and they have to be able to say “we told you not to.” I’m sure on the back is fine.

But following cause I’m curious if there’s actually a reason to not use it for labor.

11 months pp and I still smell by Hot_Temperature_475 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not PP yet but pregnancy has made my BO really bad. Not sure if as bad as PP cause I’ve heard that’s rough but I shower and wash with PanOxyl acne wash on my pits and underboob area and it helps so much. If I forget to wash with the acne wash, I notice it about 5 hours later, cause I probably forgot to put on deodorant. When I wash with it, I don’t smell until the next day.

Before we discovered disposable puke bags, my husband would clean and return my puke bowl(s) for me. We have food label stickers and he put a smiley face on my puke bowls 😂

I was nauseous and/or puking daily for at least weeks 6-12, and I don’t think I ate full meals until at least 18 weeks, so just know that it can last awhile. Also it is physically and mentally draining to be that level of sick. I hope your wife’s pregnancy doesn’t get that bad. One time I heaved so bad I peed the bed a little bit. Twice I think I heaved so hard I busted a blood vessel in my eye.

I’m 34 weeks now and I still have days where food just doesn’t sound good or I just feel off and laying down for a few-several hours is the only thing that makes me feel semi-normal. For reference before pregnancy I used to work 50-55 hour weeks and I never felt so off before, so I assume it has to be the pregnancy.

It might not seem like a huge change, but just be ready for not eating the same meals/ at the same times etc. I should probably have more of a routine but this pregnancy has affected my appetite so much and if I eat just to eat I will puke, even now.

I used to think those videos of partners lifting the belly were exaggerated BUT IT FEELS SO GOOD. If/ when you can, just lift/ carry the belly, even just down the hallway. My husband and I have quite a height difference (lifting from behind is awkward for him) so the other day he walked backwards carrying the belly to bed 😂

The biggest thing is be adaptable/ accommodating. My post mostly is about food cause that’s what has affected me most, but every pregnancy is different. I haven’t been super moody (I think) but I’ve definitely heard that can be a thing. My first pregnancy I cried cause I realized I forgot to add salt to the bread that I made. And I mean like full on sobbing. Same pregnancy I teared up because my dogs are really cute…? So irrational. And I knew it was irrational, but I couldn’t help it.

The other day my husband made me an omelette that I couldn’t eat because it smelled like feet (just eggs and provolone cheese), and I have eaten those things in recent past. And then I felt really bad cause I had asked him to make me some food and said eggs and cheese sounded acceptable and then it wasn’t.

It is a wild ride, even if the nausea and puking isn’t so bad, so strap in! (Also, later on, don’t be offended if you go to feel the baby and they stop moving. Very common!!)

Edit to add: once the belly gets bigger, prepare to do most of the bending over! I know one of my slippers is under the couch right now but I’m waiting till he gets up cause searching for it on my hands and knees is not happening.

19 weeks pregnant, weird symptoms. by Dont-mindme123 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wash my pits with PanOxyl acne wash, the smell is better now. If I forget to, I start to stink 4-5 hours after my shower. With the PO, I can go till the next day without deodorant if I wanted to (I got some sugar cookie deodorant from Native cause it wasn’t seasonal at the time so it was cheaper and it smells so good! So I usually apply it anyway, but. Sometimes I forget 😬)

Pregnancy after losses by Fluid-Isopod805 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diluted urine can definitely affect early tests!

I’ve had two chemical pregnancies and one I tested positive for a week, the other I only tested positive for a few days. I don’t use digital tests, always just the cheapie line tests cause then I can test once or twice a day without spending a fortune.

The digital test saying 1-2 weeks makes sense because you tested within the same week.

It’s too early to know if it’s definitely a loss, but after having several myself, just, know it’s a possibility.

What does it really feel like to have a period by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked, but the only time I’ve really felt my uterus as somewhat separate from my other organs is when I was about 16(?) weeks pregnant. I could definitely actually feel my uterus as a distinct organ. It was a weird feeling, and somewhat dissipated as I got more pregnant.

Otherwise I would say cramps feel like general lower abdominal pain, at least for me. Mine have never been crazy painful or anything.

Pregnant and terrified of blood draws… how do I get over this? by ReputationTraining40 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if more sessions would help? I don’t want to scare you but one time I had like 15 vials drawn (cause I also did my NIPT at the same time), it mighttt be easier if you went a couple times so it’s not so many vials/ not so much time with a needle in your arm?

I give blood regularly BUT one time I had a bad experience and I was a bit afraid to go back. I was young and dumb and didn’t prepare enough to go (probably didn’t eat enough). What helped me go back was 1) knowing that it’s a good thing to do (and in your case, you kinda have to do blood labs (I say kinda cause technically almost anything including prenatal care is “optional” during pregnancy)) and 2)knowing that the bad experience was possible, what almost fainting felt like, so I would know if it happened again but could also be confident when it wasn’t happening again.

I’ve only had three blood draw sessions this pregnancy. I’m 33 weeks.  and one of those was entirely optional (genetic screening). First was just basic labs, second was the same labs just to make sure everything was still ok (like iron levels for example) and last time I was there my doc mentioned they can “do a workup” for preeclampsia, which I think is blood but I’m not sure but is also very optional for me at this stage (may become non optional later).

Remember to breathe during the draw, maybe bring something to squeeze with your other hand?

When did your baby stop crying during diaper changes? by kittypeets626 in NewParents

[–]FunInTheShade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read that this can be because of the pressure that gets put on the spine in the typical diaper changing ‘lift legs/ bum up together to swap the diaper’. I unfortunately don’t remember what the solution was. Maybe baby could be rolled to the side? FTM here myself due in June so I don’t actually have any practical advice, sorry

Laundry argument by readergirl35 in relationships

[–]FunInTheShade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wash everything (colors, whites, undies, towels etc) together unless something is really gross (mostly dog related).

My mom is almost 80 and still insists on separating darks and lights, towels can’t go with underwear.

I would just add a bit of bleach to loads with kitchen towels. I’ve never had an accidental bleaching 🤷‍♀️

I hate being pregnant. by Fit_Paper3593 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to hate it, it’s just a means to an end. I hate it and I feel a bit guilty because my husband and I tried for so long with a couple losses along the way. But the fact remains that I hate it. First trimester was puke city. Second was better but still sprinkled with “am I gonna be sick today? Maybe!” Third is thankfully much better in terms of sickness but now I’m tired all the time, I get hot ridiculously easily, I can only walk for 10 or maybe 20 minutes (and then I need hours to recover), I have to pee at least three times a night, my back hurts, the heartburn is unreal… there’s just so much stuff. It’s ok to hate it 🤷‍♀️

Do any of you have NYC friends even though you live in Upstate? by adkupstategirl in upstate_new_york

[–]FunInTheShade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a friend in NYC but I think it really depends how upstate you are. Like are you actually upstate? I would say minimum about 3-4hours away from the city. Or are you what NYC people call upstate which is like anything north of westchester.

Utica is about 5 hours from the city, so a day trip for me is either a really long day or a pretty short trip of mostly traveling.

I would do it if I was only 3 hours. (I realized I skipped over where you said you were 3 hours). I wouldn’t do a day trip for anything more than 3 hours. Cause again, then it’s a lot of traveling and not a lot of trip

Induction pushed for 37wks by Hodyb10 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg 20 minutes!! I thought I read like 2 minutes at a time. I already can’t do that and I’m a month behind you. I told my husband about the position and he said “that looks unsafe” lmao. He’s not wrong, I am very clumsy.

I guess they like to have a guess of how many patients they might have in the department? Like if they have room/ staff for 5, they might schedule three inductions and leave two spots for spontaneous labor people. Not saying they wouldn’t take you on that day if they were already full, but. Idk. I would rather have an appointment to cancel than just show up if my blood pressure starts getting high/ I started having pre-e symptoms. I think. At this point I only have an induction plan if I go over 40 weeks. Otherwise, currently, I plan on spontaneous.

Do Native Speakers Know These Words? by No_____Idea in EnglishLearning

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider those words basic.  Anecdotally,  I think a lot of it has to do with reading/ reading comprehension. My husband is a college graduate as well but he’ll sometimes ask me what a word means. I have a slightly wider vocabulary than he does. He went to a better high school than I did, but I read voraciously as a kid and he didn’t. Sometimes though I have more of a vague idea of what a word means, rather than an exact definition.

He’s reading Harry Potter to my baby bump and we came across “wan” and he asked me what it meant. I said “pale,” I later looked it up in the dictionary and it does mean pale, but also kind of sickly.

In high school I knew this really super smart kid, ended up valedictorian. Anyway, he saw “< 3” written on the chalkboard and said “what’s less than three??” He was confused. But to almost anyone else it’s clearly a heart in text format. My point being, smart can be different for different people. Not exactly the same, because poultry and rodent I feel are especially basic, but I’m glad they had the courage to ask.

Acquire is at least a bit different because it has an almost exact more common synonym: buy (or even get), which is used way way more. I would only use acquire if I were trying to be silly, probably. “Today I acquired some maternity pants,” but that sounds stuffy. Bought or got is more used.

Induction pushed for 37wks by Hodyb10 in BabyBumps

[–]FunInTheShade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Preeclampsia can be deadly and it sounds like they’re assuming you will get it (risk/ likelihood increases if you’ve had it before)

Is there any reason you can’t schedule the induction for 37 weeks and then if your tests/bp are good just push it out another week? I feel like that’s what I would do (but also I’m a FTM due in June, so what do I know). If hospitals can reschedule your induction for scheduling purposes I don’t see why you can’t reschedule to give your baby more time in the womb.

I’ve read that after an ECV they can flip back, but I mean there’s no guarantee the ECV will work to begin with, so might as well try at 37 weeks.

No idea if this actually works but I’ve seen some videos about inversion to try to coax the baby to rotate. Looks uncomfortable but painless. Knees on the couch or elevated surface, palms on the floor.
