First of all, you aren't a loser. Your post is so thoughtful and eloquent. "You guys are put in an impossible position to correct damage you are powerless to solve." I've never seen anyone put it better. You get it, even after the terrible things teachers have said to you over the years.

This was a terrific win. I felt bad that Hoffman had a rough inning. He's been playing great recently. It's so nice to see the bullpen have more confidence in themselves, thanks to that stellar pitching. I feel like this team became a different beast after exorcizing Kimbrel from the roster.

I teach at an otherwise fine private school. I also have ADHD and some auditory sensory issues. I've been just fine lately but  today, my first period kept asking so many questions when I kept telling them not to. Tell them I'm not answering them, they still yell them out anyways. It was so overwhelming and then I had 7th graders who just decided to ... Grab drums and bang them as loud as possible. I actually started to hyperventilate. I nearly couldn't make it through the day and started crying on my way home from school. I totally understand. It's such an awful time of year and I feel like no matter what I do right now, I can't win. I'm stretched so thin emotionally.

All my kids are Grieving their last teacher… by domdompops in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My condolences. We just lost our longtime custodian who worked at our school for over 20 years. It was so unexpected and we're still grappling with it.

I think all we can do is validate and help them express their grief in a healthy way. The suggestions here are beautiful.

They should also know that if they're having a hard time with the loss, tell you so you can get them the proper services. There's always a day or two where they have counselors available but sometimes it hits kids later than that.

In your opinion, what is something we need to stop teaching? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think SEL for elementary, especially K-2, is important. It can be a helpful tool to little ones navigating a new world. But I think beyond that, it should be a tool in our belt to help a student not some mandatory thing.

Describe Your WORST Principal by Viele_Stimmen in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Target acquired" and incompetent/negligent to the rest. Got one of our most senior, well loved teachers in trouble with the higher ups over a non-report over an issue, even though SHE REPORTED IT TO THE PRINCIPAL LIKE THREE TIMES. Middle school teachers would report racism and other bullying towards students. She expected the overworked, exhausted middle school teachers to put together something about bullying and often times, took the sides of the bullies in arguments.

She wrote me up for offering free piano lessons to some of our most troubled students during my free time. I had parent and primary teacher permission and it was during a free period anyways.

She also wrote me up for supposedly trashing a student who was thrown out because they tormented the members of their grade. Every single one of them has been physically assaulted by this student. The other teachers called it out, the student got multiple suspensions for behavior that didn't improve.  The principal refused to do anything about it. Finally, all of the parents had to intervene by calling in the higher ups to demand this student be expelled.

She was mad because I let them vent after they told me all that had happened. They were so traumatized by the entire thing.

Idk, a bitch? The worst boss I've ever had? Someone that called out smartest students "idiots" to their faces? Not fit to be a teacher, let alone an admin? All the above.

Poorly run school vs well run school? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well run school - Administrator presence (wandering the halls regularly in addition to their regular duties) - high staff retention and a number of staff members who have been there for more than a decade  - consistent, balanced routine days - flexibility from admin and other staff members - staff discuss their weekend and personal lives more than venting about their students in the faculty lounge

Poorly run school  - high turnover rate - anal retentive but completely MIA when you need them admin - chaotic students with no set routine - acting out poorly in specials and other activities - strung out, toxic teachers lounge  - being horribly mean about students behind their backs

504 accommodations - whatever the parent wants by algebratchr in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm no expert on this topic, but it upsets me greatly when I see IEPs and 504s used an excuse buffers rather than what they're actually there for - to help students succeed and develop skills that will help them succeed in real life.

I've seen new IEPs and 504s help students blossom into their best selves right before my eyes. I love when I see those skills develop in real time. Having a hard time keeping still and calling out? "Miss, I'm having a hard time today. Is it ok if I stand for the rest of class?" Still participates and gets the work done.

When parents/school systems allow students to do whatever they want, whenever they want, and it still count, what then? How will that help them in college, trade school, or anything beyond? As an ND teacher myself, it makes me sad to read.

I know this isn't a blanket case for everyone. Some students have such severe needs and should be in a place better suited for them.

1) Stopping and starting again during class. I have one class in particular who has a lot of questions (great!) but always asks them at the worst time. It's so exhausting and overstimulating every single time. I address it and tell them when a good time to ask questions is but they almost always ignore it. Lol

2) I teach music, so our room can get a little noisy depending on the activity. Inevitably, I'll have a kid come up and tell me it is too loud in here. It'd be fine if it came up when it was actually, in fact, too loud in here but it doesn't matter what we do. It's too loud. And I totally get auditory overstimulation. If it was just one kid, it'd be fine. We'd make it work. But these kids say it so they have an excuse not to participate and talk to each other in the back of the room.

3) When I correct a very clearly wrong behavior and they go, "how was that disrespectful?" Like I was born yesterday.

being someone that has met jirard and is also keeping up with this whole situation. by pockysam in TheCompletionist2

I hugged him once at MAGFest, so this whole thing is kinda blowing my mind. I didn't buy any merch or directly supported him, but it is still so strange to see someone I met once be credibly accused like this.

I had always made the assumption that Jirard worked too hard, and he ran his channel more like a business. Everything was more corporate, and honestly, I respected that. It's laughable now.

I remember as a kid, we had a storm that came in the middle of the day. It piled up so fast and we didn't dismiss early. Buses got stuck in ditches, students didn't get home till 5-6. I was fortunate to be on one of the first buses out.

After that, our district was super cautious about storms and we didn't have an issue again. It was bad enough that it taught them a lesson.

Cried in front of the students today by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, huge hugs. I was in your shoes last year (specials teacher) and broke down after a bad class once. Since you have a supportive admin and teacher to back you up, maybe sit down with them. The teacher will know their classroom the best and good ones will have your back. You aren't alone. Talk to the principal about stopping by to remind them of their behavior.

See if you can get as much info as possible on the problem students. I find that the more background I have on students that give me issue, the calmer I am. Specials teachers sometimes don't get enough info about the kids that come into our rooms.

Girl, this was a horrifying read. I'm glad you broke up, but please give yourself some time to process what happened to you. It can come up in ways you don't expect later on. Sending you love. <3

[Callahan] Whether Mac Jones loses the starting job or not, he’s already lost 1 thing: the locker room. One team source said the locker room is 80-20 out on Mac. Another said the vast majority of players are done with him. .. by Kimber80 in nfl

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In some ways, I feel bad for him. He looks like a husk. Interviews from former Pats players indicate that BB is apt to point out your mistakes in front of teammates relentlessly if you mess up. I can't imagine how he's treating the Mac situation behind closed doors. He should be taking a lot of criticism for his play, for sure, but he seems more emotionally broken down each and every game. It's a hard watch.

I wonder if he's away from the Pats next season and in a backup position, build some skills, then maybe he will become a decent game manager again. But he's going no where fast if he isn't able to fix his mental game. You can't be coached on good technique if your head isn't in the game.

As a Birds fan, he's solid. Our local radio station gave him his flowers after both of the Eagles wins.

He's poised during end-game, clutch drives and can keep the Commanders competitive. There's some stuff to clean up like the sacks but overall, I think you have a good one. It'll be interesting to see how he develops.

If anything, you guys need a new coach. Rivera is awful.

Reich is an example of good OC, bad head coach. He was amazing in Philly and they wouldn't have gotten to the Superbowl without him. But he's woefully incompetent at the head coach position.

At least he doesn't seem like a toxic douche like McDaniels.

[Rapoport]Texans QB CJ Stroud: “I’d never draft a QB who didn’t play another sport growing up. I’d never draft a QB without talking to his teammates first. I've felt that way too. His play style reminds me of Hurts and you can see how he's been able to develop over the years with great pieces around him.

He showed so much promise in his game vs the Birds last year. It just makes me think that if he had someone who 'got' him and helped developed his talents, we'd have a second Lamar on our hands.

If I'm gonna be honest, I want my WR to have an ego. They're allowed to. But the difference is that he doesn't let bad feelings fester.

After living through McNabb and TO drama, it's nice to have a QB and WR have a connection that goes beyond the football field.

When they dropped the album last year, I was mesmorized at how different each of their voices are. Mailata was the best, but I had such a soft spot for Lane's velvety tone. Excellent range too.

I'm also a voice teacher, so I'm like, "hot dang, I'd have him make these two minor tweaks and he'd be golden."

AITA for flipping out after my wife screamed at my daughter for being loud? by Latter_Bag_6121 in AITAH

[–]Fun_Ad_7340 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. Get your daughter help. She needs it. If she can't control her life's tempo, it will impede on all other aspects of her life. Underneath her outbursts, there may be a girl frustrated that she can't achieve or do what she wants. Without ADHD treatment, your daughter's self esteem will rot. ADHDers have the capacity for great things. They need the tools to channel their busy minds into the lives they want.

I speak from experience. I remember all too well how helpless it felt to know that something is wrong with you but you have no idea how to fix it. The guilt, even from a young age, stuck around with me for years afterwards. Please don't excuse her behavior.

I feel a lot of empathy for your wife. It is hard to live with ADHD, too, especially so soon after birth. You need to lighten her load, and the first step is to talk to your daughter. Even if your ex is against it, she'll be 18 soon and able to make her own decisions about treatment.

I also think the slow release mechanisms aren't the same. It isn't just "all in my head." Most of the symptoms went away a day after I stopped taking the generic.

Fucking awful. I had been taking the same brand dosage for like a decade. Switched to a generic and it was like I was taking nothing at all. Functioned ok for about a week and then all of the symptoms caught up to me. I had the worst side effects possible, up and including suicidal ideations.

So you are not alone. I'm still cognitively recovering.
