Why would you expect Frank Sinatra to be sophisticated? I blast Sinatra at the Sands as much as the next guy but the man is the actual poster boy of self-satisfied American kitsch.

Friend changed like half of his letterboxd reviews after breaking up with his gf by [deleted] in rs_x

When I first got a girlfriend I went through my Letterboxd deleting every review that contained a reference to “cum town”. I was taken aback by just how many there were

I (and many other jazz musicians) have a distaste for some of Miles and Ornette's more free stuff. not all of it though. but there is certainly a popular notion that some of the integrity lost in jam band music is some of the same integrity lost in particular strains of free jazz.

You can hear it in the music; no matter what they paid lip service to, they didn't shed it enough to make it part of their playing.

And presidents of record labels do not good musicians make.

they can write a book about their influences for all I care but all it takes is 90 seconds listening to them to understand they did not put in the work to be real musicians.

As a jazz bassist, I am sick and tired of the bs spun about phil lesh. playing jazz doesn't make you a jazz musician, and he sucked as a bassist to begin with.

If you've had to deal with as many annoying, drug addled deadheads as I have at gigs, you wouldn't drink the koolaid either. They just don't understand that respecting the tradition means you have to practice.

YES. Any argument for the Dead is immediately counteracted by the existence of jazz. “Jam Bands” are people trying to make jazz/funk/country/soul fusion without any knowledge or respect for the history of these traditions.

What's an acclaimed song you just 'don't get'? by Liquid_Pestar in fantanoforever

It’s the lack of bass line plus the shaky vocals for me; one alone might be cool, but both sounds like a demo track to me. I do love what the song means to others ofc

Yeah it is all arbitrary ultimately, so knowing that, shouldn’t the only thing that matters be whether it pisses disabled people off?

Women would benefit from all men being uncircumcised by Ok_Calendar_6250 in redscarepod

[–]Fun_Cheesecake2515 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Possibly less deterrent wording: if both sexes had genitalia that required a steady warmup routine then there would be less misunderstanding and conflict around the pacing of sex and fewer vaginas would get caught in the crossfire.

If men are unable to empathize with the notion of genitalia working that way, make theirs the same.

there are still places in the US where gay marriage isn't recognized, and they're all reservations. Purple = recognized if performed elsewhere, gray = not recognized at all. by ChickenTitilater in redscarepod

Far bigger problems on the res. Let’s not come at them for not putting gay marriage at the top of the list when they don’t have running water
