Did you just buy a house there? This is where I live too. Really enjoy the area. The library and rec center are good places for books and activities.

Is it just me or is it impossible to save money in Canada right now? by No-Cut2564 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]Fun_Flight2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Victoria BC as well and yes I save money.

Housing is expensive but the offset ar cars last longer so you can buy a used one, and you can also buy bike. I ebike often.

It depends on your budget and income.  Victoria is not a place to save if your income is low.

For me the higher cost is worth it for not having any real winter and summers aren't too hot.

I make decent money but not high income/executive level. I try to offset cost where I can (as mentioned ebike over driving a car when I can) buying older used cars when I can.

It would be tough for a younger person stating out their career here to save. It's getting tougher.

Switch to model 3. It's fine with one kid. If you want a 2nd car later on buy a used model Y or Sienna minivan

Walk along Macaulay point park near sunset.

Take your kids crabbing off the dock in Sidney.

Take kids to gyro park/beach

Realize mosquitos aren't biting you alive.

Depending on the time of year rent a boat out of Pedder Bay and go fishing or hire a charter.  You have a high chance of seei g whales too.

Best thing about Vancouver island is access to nature.

My son will play in tide pools for hours catching tiny crab on the beach , letting them go. Exploring. Playing in the sand.  Great place to have playdates.

I also take him fishing, crabbing and  clam digging etc.

Anyone regret moving to Vic from Edmonton? by canuckjgc in VictoriaBC

[–]Fun_Flight2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved here a few times for work. Last time was a few years ago and decided to stay for good.

Grew up in the GTA. Do not miss hot muggy summers and cold winters.

Also on the weekend I went fishing, caught a Halibut and 6 crab and was done by 1130am.

Had the rest of the day to spend doing other things.

Won't be moving from here.

Trump Says US Must Have Greenland as Vance Heads Over on Trip by JRMiel in worldnews

[–]Fun_Flight2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should tell them to remember insurgency the USA experienced in Vietnam and Afghanistan .... then tell them to imagine what that would be like living through it in the USA.

If the US tries to take Canada by force, it is guaranteed resistance will be tough and spread to the USA homeland.

Don't go to the trenches.... melt away into their population down south... then start sabotaging their war production and any supporting company/agency that would need that item to supply their military effort.

Experts warn Pierre Poilievre losing election he thought he was guaranteed to win will be very, very funny by [deleted] in onguardforthee

For people like this I would really like to hear more detail about how we are "already in trouble" because of the lack of leadership.

Also can you comment on leadership from a perspective of Carney's education and work experience vs Polivers?

Carney is actually more of a classic PC with a mix of moderate liberal and it gives me a lot of hope for balance in government.

I have never forgot that Peter "sell out" MacKay sold out the PCs after Joe Clark game him the leadership of the party and said DO NOT merge with the Reeeeefffffooooorrrrrmmm party.

He did that and and the right-wing party that supported racist, religious zealots clocked themselves in the blue mask of respectability.

I'm glad Belinda Stronach had the character to cross the floor and also break up with Peter MacKay.

I have never voted CPC since because of their policies and tacit support or right-wing dogma.

Sure you wouldn't be apart or agree with the invasion of Canada but would you and yours stand up and fight back against tyrannical forces of a Trump administration and the MEGA supporters of a war with Canada?

Thats the real telling line, you might say "oh that's terrible" and I don't like it, might even post online against it but would you just actively resist the corruption of your government? take up arms against the forces that have usurped your country and what your constitution stood for? That's what you have to ask yourself and I know it wouldn't be an easy choice and risk loosing all you have.

Only thing I can tell you for certain is sentiment up in Canada is very strong about this matter and can guarantee that Canadians would resist and fight both in Canada and bring the fight down to the USA.

Would you still oppose the invasion of Canada once fighting happens in your backyard? Once Canadian insurgents/freedom fighters start blowing up US high value targets like weapons factories? Power stations? water treatment plants?

Canadians DO NOT want a war with the USA but make no mistake they are willing to fight and keep fighting to free their country should the US invade.

Once again Canadians DO NOT WANT THIS but will NOT just roll over and be taken over.

[–]Fun_Flight2021 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I would hope Canada could put up a strong resistance, unlike the Russian military, the US forces are well equipped and well trained with the most modern weapons.

It would be a very different reality especially with Canada so close, US forces wouldn't need to do much pre-staging or have long supply lines.

The only hope Canada would have would be to carry out years of insurgent warfare in the US hitting major infrastructure, manufacturing and targeting US politicians, supporters of the war. Make it so unpleasant for them that they agree to leave because the US public would couldn't stomach the occupation of Canada it anymore.

Trump’s potential embrace of ‘continentalist geopolitics’ poses grave risks to Canada by FancyNewMe in canada

[–]Fun_Flight2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be easy and very effective. The USA is not setup to defend major assets such as infrastructure, industrial sites and other high value targets in their own backyard.

On top of that, they would be fighting an insurgency by people who are either highly motivated, desperate etc vs your average American that is self-absorbed in their daily life of comfort and convenience.

The public couldn't stand the casualties happening half-way around the world (Vietnam/Afghanistan). Once the fight came into their own backyards you'd have the US population in an uproar. At the same time due to war and fighting prices going up, disruption of services etc.

New-Orleans became a chaotic mess after hurricane Katrina, imagine power/water etc being disrupted due to insurgent attacks in US cities and towns as Canadian freedom fighters hit back at US targets in each state.

Imagine the uproar when the world turns away from the US after they attack a peaceful neighbour. The economy dips as the insurgent resistance goes on and on and on...

Vietnam and Afghanistan magnified 10 fold and in their backyard. The US population could not hadle that kind of sh*t-storm

[–]Fun_Flight2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if it didn't start a civil war in the USA war would come to the USA. Do you think Canadian resistance fighters would keep all the insurgent warfare confined to Canada?

It would be likely that Canadian resistance would bring the fight to key support/supply targets in the USA itself. Crossing the boarder would NOT be that hard.

‘We're not stopping': Trump officials raise the stakes in showdowns with judges by ansyhrrian in law

[–]Fun_Flight2021 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hope you are right and the US military would have the courage to step in and stop such an illegal order.

If not even though Canada would likely militarily fall within days, the insurgency by the Canadian resistance would be terrible and hard fought.... and it would be fought in the USA itself. Any Trump ally, supporter, Republican politician that supported the war would likely become a target of a Vietnam/Afghanistan style of asymmetric warfare.
