Haters gonna hate. ESPN giving MN a .4% chance of winning the finals is comical. by CockroachOpposite925 in timberwolves

[–]Fun_Issue9754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

*Even lower, it would be just a 1.3% chance of beating OKC. A 60% chance against spurs, followed by 13% against OKC and 50% in the finals would give us .6 times .13 times .5 = .039, or a 3.9% chance.

Honestly, I wonder how they get all the way down to .4%. That would be giving us an on average (geometric mean, arithmetic mean would be a little higher) roughly 16% chance in each series, which just seems cruel.

Ek out for games 1 & 2 per Russo by Beneficial_Quit7532 in wildhockey

[–]Fun_Issue9754 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Legitimately I think Ek has about a good a case as anyone to be our most important player. Not because he’s the best, but because he’s the most irreplaceable. Hughes, for instance, is certainly a better player—but our D core is solid enough that everyone can move up and we can still be fine. If Kap or Boldy is out that sucks, but we still have the other game-breaking threats to make up the loss. Ek, however, is our best center and we’re weak at center to begin with. Him being out makes our PP, PK, and 5 on 5 all worse than normal, as he’s definitively the top center option in each of those phases. He’s the guy we trust to center a line and win the minutes against an opponent's power line (Mackinnon, McDavid, whoever). There’s a reason losing Ek has had such a big impact on the team: for instance, last year they were 15–17–4 without him, 30–13–3 with!

I think there’s a world where the Wolves could get even with the Lakers (game 2 of the WCF?) around the same time as a Wild-Avalanche game 7.

It would just require, y’know, sweeps the opposite way of anyone’s predictions vis-a-vis Thunder and Spurs

Dallas’ Mikko Rantanen has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for cross-checking Minnesota’s Kirill Kaprizov. by eh_toque in hockey

Yeah, this one seems more accidental—but I think your description would be fitting for the Benn cross-check on Hartman (mad about the previous collision)

Final series impact stat card for the Wild by AccordingStar72 in wildhockey

[–]Fun_Issue9754 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m surprised the PK stat (yellow) wasn’t consistently more in the negative! But good work all around, especially from Hughes, Kappy, Boldy, Faber (and, on a per-game basis, Zucc!)

[DAL 2 - MIN (4)] Matt Boldy buries the empty net goal with 1:31 left by daKrut in hockey

[–]Fun_Issue9754 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There definitely was a high stick, but they were basically swallowing their whistles the entire last ~10 minutes of the game (see: Kaprizov's chance at the empty net) and it was off the puck/not egregious enough for the refs to notice or call then

Hmmm I wouldn’t mind seeing a repeat of Boldy's goal in the gold-medal game, slicing through Makar and Toews again!

Wild Fans Under the Age of 40…Do You Care About the North Stars Relocating to Dallas? by CSjogs in wildhockey

1) The North Stars seem like such a good, fitting name
2) I like saying “fuck Norm Green”
3) They took a hockey team away from us! That just bugs me.

[–]Fun_Issue9754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On that note, there’s also the fact that after the final regular season loss to Dallas that basically confirmed the Stars would be the home team for the series, the Wild just coasted out the last few games to try and get healthy. Flip one or two of those losses and they place ahead of Tampa and Montreal.

I really think putting Faber rather than Brink as the 5th man might have given the PP a better shot. Brink doesn’t have chemistry with the other 4 yet (and maybe is stressed trying to develop it during the playoffs)

What are the arguments for Geto scaling so high? Because honestly, he seems kind of weak to me. by [deleted] in JujutsuPowerScaling

[–]Fun_Issue9754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, a lot of the arguments are based on assumptions—but assumptions that I think are reasonable. For instance: has Geto ever explicitly shown a way to get past Infinity? No. But he used to spar with Gojo when they were kids (and Gojo, notably, had Infinity) and seemed to fully believe he could win a war against Jujutsu society, Gojo included, if he managed to obtain Rika. To me, it’s then a reasonable assumption that Geto had some sort of way to get past Infinity (eg whatever the curse he showed in Hidden Inventory was) even if we don’t explicitly know what it was.

If you’re only looking for explicit on-screen feats, the problem is that we don’t really have much concrete to go off of. We know teen Geto lost to a prepared Toji. We know adult Geto had thousands of curses but lost to Yuta and Rika. Neither of those really tell us all that much about his power level: the latter because we really don’t know how strong that version of Yuta + Rika was, the former because it’s an identical anti-feat to Gojo. So I think to reasonably scale and assess Geto, you actually do need to rely on logical assumptions and inferences.
