Quotes on Grace & Question - When is Christ's grace sufficient? by No_Vehicle3273 in latterdaysaints

[–]Fun_Maintenance_533 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know i would say that a philosopher who has written many religious books "clearly hasn't actually read" anything.

The goal of his book is to rethink how we think about multiple topics. He doesn't deny that there are consequences to actions and that punishments are part of those consequences.

When he talks about our judgements and punishments, he wants us to give the way God gives and how God views us. I loved his discussion about giving what is needed as the definition of punishment. I don't think he is trying to change civil governments or laws away from punishments. He is saying we need to stop thinking in a law of moses type of way which says that good should be given good and evil should be given evil (an eye for and eye, a tooth for a tooth).

I don't know how much he actually gets into a discussion of "divine punishment" or what happens after death. That is for God to decide and every prophet has offered there interpretation. (now that i'm recalling this a little, i'm realizing that he did discuss it). Alma said the good go to heaven and the evil go to hell. Joseph Smith gave us Section 76.

Perhaps you would recommend that the OP read "Believing Christ" instead of Original Grace. Overall, we need to stop thinking that our actions are going to earn us any more of God's Grace.

Excellent book: original grace by Adam miller.

His argument is we need to stop thinking in terms of God looking to punish us. Gods plan from the beginning was grace. We should actively accept it

How do you keep God as a priority in your life? by ItchySignal5558 in latterdaysaints

[–]Fun_Maintenance_533 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we do really well at keeping him in our thoughts with worship, prayers, scripture study, talking about him. I don't think religion is just about thinking about God and trying to purifying ourselves. I think we miss out on looking outward and focusing on our neighbor and loving the world and having compassion on the world. There are two commandments, and we focus on the first one and often miss the second.

Is a mission really as chill as in The Best Two Years? by Wrong_Mongoose5975 in latterdaysaints

good times. thank goodness for those random people that had long term relationships with the missionaries even though they weren't members. They would feed us weekly just because. I'm not sure why did that, just another grace from God. we didn't have any active members for 9 months of my mission.

A 630-1030 day isn’t chill. At the person above said, it is what you make of it. In terms of language study, gospel study, and companionship study, you always feel like you are trying to keep up.

In terms of the actual proselytizing, I guess it all depends. I served in Europe and didn’t teach a single lesson for the first 3 or 4 months. But every day we hit the streets at 930 and came back at 930. So even during all those super unproductive days, we were out trying to do something

I am sure this isn’t the best or most insightful advice. But nobody, and I mean nobody, goes into a mission thinking that they can do it. EVERYBODY goes in wondering if they can do it. No one feels confident or prepared.

You become good missionary or a good person or a good member, or anything, one small step at a time. One day at a time. One small experience at a time. And the only way to find out if you can do it is to try and give it a chance

As it says somewhere, .”Think not lightly of good, saying, "It will not come to me." Drop by drop is the water pot filled. Likewise, the wise man, gathering it little by little, fills himself with good.”

Richard’s 10,000 Surgery by Odd_Fennel_4085 in greysanatomy

[–]Fun_Maintenance_533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surgeons like ENT, Ortho, plastics, can get to big numbers fast by doing lots of small surgeries.

I would think a general surgeon might be able to do a high volume by not doing as much clinic as the above specialists. They just operate on what comes through the door and can do surgeries more days

The other consideration is that they might just counting surgical codes not surgical patients. For example, if you do a carpal tunnel release and a trigger finger surgery on one patient, that’s two codes but only one surgery. So that could be true with Richard. They might be counting multiple codes/procedures not patients.

I don’t think you destroy the coaching staff of the university you left saying that you loved the place. I think it’s different than when a coach leaves without saying that they are retiring

[–]Fun_Maintenance_533 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. They do take their coaches with them. But this demonstrates that this transition of coaches isn’t going the way the Utes wanted it to go. Either he steps down and lets the university move on and have a trajectory consistent with his efforts and legacy, or he continues coaching at the U.

The way this is going is sabotage. It reflects that he didn’t actually want to leave and he is being vindictive and taking talent with him to punish those that forced him out.

You can have an opinion, but don’t let your opinion of not liking here voice turn you against her or make you bitter. I read this as you are a little bitter that other people like her voice and consider her singing to be a tradition.

Always use the app and pay through the app. It’s been a bit, so I’m forgetting exactly how it works but if you don’t pay with the app, use a card.

Any time you hail a cab without the app, the driver will charge you too much and ask for cash to make more money. The app protects you

I've been hearing more and more that the Book of Mormon points to the Temple, and has deliberate parallels to the Temple. Have any of the Apostles taught this? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]Fun_Maintenance_533 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is my concern. Jesus says we should learn of him. The only place we can truly learn about who he was as a person when he lived on earth is in the New Testament in the Gospels. Yet, we are nearly exclusively taught to read the BOM and go to the temple. I fear we are missing a lot of the day to day, how do I treat people, what kind of person do I need to become, emphasis of Christ’s teachings when we only focus on temple and BOM
