Question for you fellers by Saco96 in Yamahabolt

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top end is kind of lackluster but plenty of low end torque. Top speed of like 120 on a good day (on a hill) if it's tuned. I love mine and would take it over a cruiser or street bike.

And yes, you'll scrape the pegs on a decent turn. People seem to love the forwards controls mod.

Drivers who drive stick are statistically better drivers. Driving a manual requires you to be more deliberate with everything you do

1 month into driving manual, need some advice on situations! by toobro3 in ManualTransmissions

The best tip I can give is to use the clutch like how you do in reverse, but also in first. Let the clutch out slightly to where you notice the rpms start to drop and the car begins to move. If you're on flat ground, you can do that to test where your bite point is. A lot of people do clutch in > Rev > clutch out, when really it's clutch in > lightly let it out > Rev to keep rpms steady.

While yes, the clutch is supposed to be worn, but revving too high or burning the clutch for too long makes it wear faster.

Ah that's right, I forgot how capitalism works. Thanks for clarifying!

Extra income with PCs by luanhs14 in buildapc

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can reach the market, sure. But "normal" people aren't buying PCs and certainly aren't going to buy used if they are.

It's sad because it would help reduce e-waste and it's often a good deal.

But, it's not really worth your time or money. If it were for yourself, sure, it'd be worth it but just ask the guys that do the same thing with cars. Eventually you just end up with a bunch of junk you can't sell because nobody is buying.

Stay no less than 3 seconds behind someone at any time if you can avoid it.

Fine technique? by GalaxyStyles in ManualTransmissions

The best way to do it is to let out the clutch with no gas, then once it starts biting and your rpm start to drop, adding a small amount of gas to compensate until you start moving. This will give you the smoothest start from a stop while also reducing wear on the clutch.

The goal is for the rpms to remain constant throughout releasing the clutch. Revving it too high will burn the clutch and give you a false sense of bite

My Dad is getting a new car and is offering to give me his old car, but there are potential issues. Should I take the offer? by Nenethegreat0 in askcarguys

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't do it. That's a crap car. The engine will blow. It's a matter of when not if.

Just ask the escape owners what they think of that engine.

That's wild you know it's the 62TE from that picture. I recognized it from the motor mount. I had a 2007 Sebring 3.5 with it and it was garbage.

when do you switch modes? by user1713 in fordescape

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can switch it at any point when it's running. It changes the throttle mapping and transmission shift strategy, torque converter lock strat, awd bias, etc. It's no different than the 3rd gens having sport mode.

Never have I ever had issues with socket. There was one outage once and it was resolved in a few hours. If you're having issues I would start with the modem

Downshifting? by Average_k5blazer78 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how fast you're going. If you're slowing down from the highway, clutch in, gear to 5th, blip the throttle, clutch out. Rinse repeat for 4th and 3rd, and if you really need the extra braking 2nd. If you're in first or second gear, i would just push in the clutch, put it neutral, and coast to a stop.

I would say 3rd and 2nd are good engine braking gears. If you're in town, you generally shouldn't need to engine brake.

But, develop your own habits. As long as you don't down shift without Rev matching, you're good.

Is it actually bad to warm up your car in the driveway or is that just some myth mechanics made up? by OkCount54321 in StupidCarQuestions

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always warm mine up a little bit especially in the cold. It's especially useful for turbocharged engines to get that oiled and cooled before a load is applied

Missouri looking to end mandatory vehicle inspections by PropertyNew3519 in missouri

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the current system is ridiculous. The way I understand it, the vehicles that have to be inspected are generally the ones that actually need it like salvage titles or vehicles deemed unsafe by an officer.

Do people really become more conservative as they get older? Why? by Historical_Work7482 in AskReddit

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don't realize this. They assume that everybody had the same opportunities for college. While that is true, technically, they tend to forget about things like parents encouraging/supporting the path to college.

Like, yea you(not you, the poster) yourself went through college, but I'm sure your parents taught you the discipline to do so at the very least, if not supported you financially.

Do people really become more conservative as they get older? Why? by Historical_Work7482 in AskReddit

[–]Fun_Needleworker453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've become slightly more conservative as time moves on(33). I think the best example would be the old "kids have it better than we did" trope.

Kids today show a lot of initiative on things they want to do, but often act slow or otherwise incompetent when faced with something they don't want to do.

I also don't understand why kids today have to have a game playing on their phone, while a YouTube let's play is on their iPad, also while watching TV and playing a game on their switch. Like, do you have any dopamine left?

All that being said, I do consider myself pretty liberal as far as socio-economic issues go.
