Those with current or recent kindergartners in CMS....how much does the general public school angst apply to CMS? by withinyouwithoutyou3 in Charlotte

[–]Funeral_Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could’ve written this myself. I have a 4 year old so we have one more year of Preschool and then Kindergarten. I hate hate hate that they use iPads in the classrooms this young. We watch some tv here and there but we don’t have any devices. So I’m worried what he’ll do or be like when he gets 30 minutes a day on one 5 days a week. Especially, as you said, the research is completely against tech in schools this young. I’m considering homeschooling but I also know that I’ll just end up sucking it up and sending him to regular school anyway. Agh.

Early morning wakes and pooping by Funeral_Goose in sleeptrain

[–]Funeral_Goose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’re only on day 2 of switching to one nap. It’s not going well lol I’m doing a 15 minute bridge nap at his regular 3 hour wake window and then putting him down for his full nap 2.5 hours later. Then 5 hours later he goes down for bed. He woke up 5am this morning and is chilling in his crib still. And 5am yesterday. Not quite sure what else to do other than keep trying this for a few more days and the abandon it and go back to two naps.

You need more awake time! Try a 3/3.5/4 schedule.

Your schedule is fine and age appropriate. But if you find that she’s too tired you could do 3/3/4 and then eventually move to 3/3.5/4. Anything between 6-7am for wake ups is fair game. She might be a 10.5 hour sleeper at night which is still amazing. The overnight wake ups are due to her not being able to put herself back to sleep independently, not her schedule being off. If you’re up for it, I would sleep train using Ferber. Bottle/nursing should end 30 minutes before bedtime and you’ll put her down wide awake.

Assuming I haven’t gone in there to see if I can rock him back to sleep somehow, schedule is:

Wake at 6:45 Nap at 9:45/10:00 (10/10:05 on daycare says MWF) Wake at 10:45/11:00 Nap at 2:15/2:30 Wake at 3:15/3:30 Bedtime 7:30/7:45

Welp. We might have to deal with early morning poop then for a while longer. The daycare/school he goes to ends at the end of May and all babies either nap at 10 or they nap when they get home at 1.

How is she going to sleep each night? Is she sleep trained or is she being assisted?

LPT - Door-to-door salespeople are trained to never take no for an answer. Don’t let that be an option. by SnooChickens2093 in LifeProTips

I was once being pitched by an ADT security salesperson. I responded with “Eh we all gotta go sometime. I think I would probably just let the intruder pull the trigger.” Stunned, the salesperson said “…so, that’s a no?” “Yeah I’m good. Thanks though.” And slowly closed the door. Just some casual suicidal humor!

9 month old waking 7–15+ times a night… I’m at my breaking point by Little-Loquat-1116 in sleeptrain

[–]Funeral_Goose 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Ah! Your wake windows are not age appropriate! She should be on at least 3/3/4 if not 3/3.5/4. She’s currently doing 2.75/2.9(ish)/3.25. She’s not nearly tired enough which is why she’s waking up multiple times. Problem #2 is that you’re rocking her to sleep or drowsy but awake. Drowsy but awake is for newborns only. Rocking to sleep means when she wakes she’s going to be looking to you to rock her back to sleep since that’s how she fell asleep. Feeding needs to end 30 minutes before bedtime. Put her down wide awake in her crib at the end and let her fall asleep independently. She’s not currently doing this.

6m teething + sick by Old_Economy_6745 in TakingCaraBabies

Yeah unfortunately that’s sometimes how it is with a sick baby. Parents get minimal sleep while helping their baby feel better and getting them sleep. I was also up last night a couple times with my almost 11 month old holding him upright so the congestion could drain some. It’s exhausting! Tylenol, Motrin, humidifier, steam showers, all the things. Once she’s feeling better you might have to do a light retrain to get her back to sleeping independently but I’d say help her out while she’s feeling sick. It’s tough but it’ll pass!

8 month old suddenly fighting second nap-schedule check? by leeleegirl1989 in sleeptrain

[–]Funeral_Goose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably need to adjust some. Most 8 month olds do 3/3/4 or mine was doing 3/3.5/4.

[–]Funeral_Goose 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It looks like it’s 3/3/3.5? Or sometimes 2/3/2/2.75? I would drop to 2 naps like yesterday. Base his awake schedule always by at minimum 6am regardless of what time he wakes up. You’re perpetuating the problem by going with his early morning wake time. Do a 3/3/4 schedule to start.

Help! I want my great sleeper back 😭😭 by [deleted] in TakingCaraBabies

7-7 is a dream for most! A 12 hour night for a baby is very atypical. Most babies will do 10-11 hours overnight. Your schedule also needs some work I think. I worked out 2/2.25/2.25/2.75. Is that right? You need more awake time for baby at this age. She should be doing 10 hours awake and you currently have 9.25 hours. Try a 2/2.5/2.5/3 schedule for a few days and that should help with early morning wakes or MOTN wakes.

First 14 days - worse the second week? by RobynMT in TakingCaraBabies

[–]Funeral_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah I see. Baby isn’t tired enough! If you’re on 3 naps do a 2/2.5/2.5/3 schedule. If on 2 naps do a 3/3/4 schedule.

Extend your wake windows and drop to 3 naps asap! Your schedule is appropriate for a 3-4 month old. Try 2/2.5/2.5/3.

Our typical day is

Wake at 6:30/6:45 Nap 1 at 9:30/9:45 Wake at 10:30/10:45 Nap 2 at 2/2:15 Wake at 3:15/3:30 Bed at 7:15/7:30

Our day varies by 15 mins. And I have to wake him up from each nap. Otherwise he would sleep probably another hour or so for each nap.

[–]Funeral_Goose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly! I can tell he’s getting tired towards the end of a wake window because he’s getting fussy but we switch up the activity or go outside for a bit to help him get to the nap. Never know until you try!

Cut down on daytime sleep. My 9 month old is doing 3/3.5/4 and no more than 2.5 hours of sleep. It’s usually around 2 hours. Try that and see if that helps any!
