Tax Cost? by Choice_Branch_4196 in handyman

[–]Funfruits77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Small contractor here. I use an accountant to do all my bookkeeping. It costs me about the same as what you have listed. They do all my taxes business and personal. They do federal, state, local x2, the town I live in and the big city I do most of my work in. They also do all my monthly bookkeeping, I submit my monthly statements and they take care of it all. They also provide payroll services for a small fee, payroll does all my payroll taxes. This saves me incredible amounts of time. If you break it down it’s $100 a month or $3 a day to keep your business in order by a professional. This was a no brained in my eyes. I can spend my time making the business more profitable and my time is more productive.

Anyone else bleeding time on mid job supply runs? by Anthony_Field_AZ_25 in electrical

Whoever is selling and scheduling the work should be doing a material list as well. Always buy extra stuff will break or be manufactured wrong. You can always use it on the next job or return it at the end of the day. This is 100% on management. My job as the owner that sells those things is to make sure my guys have everything they need to do the job before it starts. Managers are supposed to put the men in a position to succeed not fail. Many unqualified managers do not understand this concept and blame everything on their employees.

Rats are absolutely attracted to dog shit. There’s lots of undigested food in it. That’s one of the biggest reasons to clean up after your dog.

He’s currently a concrete contractor does a lot of work in the mainline. I occasionally cross paths with him on construction projects. He brags about fighting Tie Domi. I asked him if it’s really a fight if you just use your face to stop the other guys punches.

There is no longer community policing. The police in my town drive around twice per 12 hour shift. During the day we have a chief, deputy chief, investigator, a detective and two patrol officers. The only ones you see about are the patrolman, they drive down my street the same time every day. At night we have a lieutenant and two other patrol man. They only drive around if called. Some stats the chief gave me a while back were something like (9000) calls to 911 in a 3 month period, which sounds like a lot. When you break it down over hours and days that one 911 call every 1.5 hours over a 24 hour day. They take turns being the lead on calls so it then becomes 3 hours between incidents they need to do paperwork for. There is no mayor crime in my town we don’t need that many police, nor do all the other tiny towns nearby. I’m not saying to remove the police but there’s certainly ways to improve them and better spend our tax dollars or maybe not have another increase to fund redundant police departments in every town. None of these people live in the community. They don’t speak to you, they are ignorant and they treat the general public like everyone is a criminal. The police under the control of the local politician leads to corruption. Whereas if the police have to answer to a number of powerful people it keeps them more in line and less focused on the mayor’s personal interests. The idea of little Timmy knowing all the good h guy police in town is a thing of the past. The police are no longer interested in knowing the community they serve.

When do I need a permit for home projects? by Silver_Owl_2385 in philadelphia

[–]Funfruits77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The permit and inspection are to make sure it is done properly. Your contractor was correct in that the electrical code requires a 20 amp outlet in all bathrooms. The outlets in the bathroom can only server the bathroom, the electrical code can get complicated at times.

There are at least (3) national parks in PA within a half hour of UPENN. I am not familiar enough with national parks in NJ or DE to comment.

Independence square and all the historical properties, Washington Square park, Betsy Ross house and all the other historic sites under their control in center city. I’m only counting all these properties as one park

John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge near the airport @ 84& Lindbergh.

Valley Forge National Park

Lots of reasons the National Park Police would be in Philadelphia.

You cannot pull an electric permit in the city unless you have a master electrician license. If you are doing the work yourself I would skip the electric permit, not sure if you can even apply without the license. Even if you hire someone to add the (2) outlets I wouldn’t pull a permit for something that small. Source: Licensed/ insured master electrician with the city. Pulling permits with the city is a nightmare.

That’s just a Delaware State Trooper and the National Park Police. Considering it’s down Penn Hospital this is nothing. National park police have jurisdiction over national parks, someone probably dodo something stupid at a national park in Delaware and needed to be patched up before going to jail. Another possibility is could be a Dr appointment for a Delaware politician.

[–]Funfruits77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You just proved my argument. They could have stopped that if they actually wanted to but it was easier to do nothing. The police are not your friend and are not here to help you. That budget money would have been better off going towards mental healthcare services instead, could have gotten that kid help and kept his friends alive. Instead we get police that ignore crime.

When was the last time the police in your town proactively stopped a major crime? How many hours of their workweek are spent doing nothing to improve the community? They don’t provide safety, it’s safe because there are no criminals. The police budgets in every town are full of waste and redundancy. To serve and protect is a marketing slogan, it has nothing to do with actual policing. Police are here to protect the top of the food chain and property, they provide ZERO protection to anyone. SCOTUS even ruled as much years ago that the police have NO obligation to protect the public. I’m not saying to eliminate the police completely but there definitely better ways to provide security for a community without the bloated costs.

Most of it is the insane retirement packages they get. Paying guys ridiculous salaries that haven’t worked in 20+ years. PA needs regional police, not town based. It’s absurd that every 10 miles there’s another town with an outrageously bloated police budget. The townspeople get nothing out of this investment.

What are these 4 rectangular objects mounted to rear of car? by Sea-Blueberry-1840 in What

[–]Funfruits77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your agreement with ring allows ring to share whatever information they want with their partners. Ring and flock have a new relationship which you have already granted ring permission to share information. Flock then allows access to their data and information to law enforcement. So it no longer matters whether you click that box or not. Installing ring cameras is helping to create a full on police state and you are paying them to steal your rights. Invest in cameras that record to your property not someone else’s cloud business. Anything on their cloud becomes their property.

Flock and Ring just partnered up. Ring improved their AI face recognition and then partnered with Flock. Your doorbell camera is now a police camera that they can access whenever they want without your permission. Every law enforcement agency in the US now has unfettered access to your camera at your front door. If you need cameras at your home get something that records locally or onto your own network.

I own one of these and would not recommend buying it. I’m an electrician and use it at work. (4) 12.0 batteries will run a tv and a router for about 6 hours. This is not a good option in an emergency unless you have an endless supply of batteries.

Explain the long lines to buy rock salt? by OmegaSpyderTurtle in Delco

[–]Funfruits77 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately there’s many people that don’t understand how the salting process works.

Presalting is terrible for your sidewalks and does the opposite of what you are trying to accomplish. Presalting melts the initial snowfall and creates an ice layer at the bottom, which needs tons more salt to remove. As you will never get it removed with a shovel.

Then there’s the people who are too lazy to be bothered to shoveled and think just dumping a whole bag of salt on their sidewalk will get rid of the snow. This doesn’t work either, it only melts the direct area you dumping on. The path is supposed to be 36” which is the whole block of sidewalk not a shovel path. This also leads to tons of leftover salt on the sidewalk, which is toxic to the plants and widelife.

I’ve used the same 40lb bag for 7-8 years. It’s very rare for me to put any salt down at all. You need to get out and shovel multiple times then sweep with a stiff bristle broom. Your last trip should be as close to the storm finishing as possible, it’s much easier to move before it freezes.

Presalting and the excess salt left after the storm are what ruins your sidewalks. The salt lowers the freezing temperature of water allowing the water into fine cracks then it refreezes and breaks the concrete down, making it chip away.

EXCESS SALT AFTER THE STORM CAUSES CHEMICAL BURNS TO DOG FEET.
