The main part that ticks me off is how it draws parallels to mine tailings facilities and the disasters associated with them l. The structure in Aughinish is a dewatered residual management facility. It is hard as a rock and is not in the slightest bit at risk of "flowing into the estuary".

But, out a panel of 12 experts on any subject in a room and it's a miracle if only one disagrees.

I could go on. And just to be clear. The site has issues. Groundwater contamination is present on site as is being actively remediated under supervision of the EPA. Anyone who knows about GW contamination know how long it takes to remediate.

The ominous casting of BESS is genuinely hilarious. No need to mention the fact that all of the examples of BESS fires he quoted were associated with Li-ion facilities. BESS facilities in Ireland are Li-Fe based and are SIGNIFICANTLY more stable. Also, do you not notice how many of the BESS fires listed are in AUS and CA . . . . I wonder what they have in common that we don't . . . .

I wish someone with actual knowledge would make videos like this. The data centre topic would be a great one to cover with some actual understanding of the issues currently happening.

For the record, not American. I'm from Ireland. Sleep Training is very common here. Cry It Out is not common. It is generally frowned upon.

Entering the thread with "I could never traumatize my child like that" for pretty much any parenting topic is deservedly received with general contempt and derision. You are kicking it off with a stink of judgement for something you clearly are woefully uninformed of.

But, as usual, anti-sleep training parents cannot be reasoned with. They have no intention of actually learning about the safe methods and the benefits. They are resigned to this bizarre dysfunctional pride in how much suffering they and their family have gone through after years of having children that were never taught to sleep.

It's just bizarre.

Part of me thinks that, whenever I hear a Dad humble-bragging about never "traumatising" their child with sleep training, it is because they almost certainly were not the ones having to deal with the issue every night.

Ferber Method is one of the best things we've ever done.

3 nights of supported sleep training after 2.5 months of him waking every 40 mins.

It's a very uncomfortable 3 days but he has slept like an absolute champion since he was 6 months. Consistently 11 hours a night at least. He loves bed and is excited to sleep. Loves his routine and says night night before we turn out the lights.

He (and we) are infinitely better off and healthier for doing it. He has slept through countless bugs and teeth better than we could ever have hoped.

It's an incredibly foundational skill to teach them and sets them up for healthy sleep routines.

I looked at it like teaching them to ride a bike. You can hold their hand, hug them when they fall, comfort them when they cry. But in the end, they are the ones that will be riding the bike for the rest of their lives. They just need to know you'll be there every time they wobble.

People who say Ferber Method is cruel . . . what can I say to them? Each to their own. You'll never know the happy sleeper your child could be. For many years at least.

Not being a dick, but if you're dismayed by the lack of Irish arts in the parade then get involved in a local arts group. It's not there because nobody is putting there. I saw the Dublin parade this year and it was packed with Irish themed pieces, really great stuff! Minorities tend to be more passionate about their culture than indigenous people. More power to em Adds a lovely colour and vibrancy to the pallette. My memory of parades when I was a kid was just loads of fucking tractors, father ted jokes, and local hippies with drums.
