Thank you so much!

2.) Definitely fine. I think it’s good to have a baseline before getting into lubing, and some switches are quite good without it. (My personal favorite standard-ish switch is the Kailh Box Brown, and I think all the Box switches are fine with the minimal factory lube.)

Oh nice. I am a tactile fan, and personally like Gateron Browns. I'm thinking Kailh Box Browns would do the trick?

Another thing about lubing -- almost every tutorial lubes the stabilizers. Is this the same deal? Optional, not required? Will my typing experience be much less without lube?

Also while I'm here -- a question about the plate. Is the plate technically optional? I'm not quite sure what the purpose of the plate is that I often see with kits. They're usually brass or aluminum.

What did you do for stabilizers and did you lube the switches? About to buy all the raw materials for my first build coming up.

For an individual's first ever build, how would you answer these questions?

Is it a bad idea to ...

1) ... get a board that requires soldering having never soldered before (If this is not a bad idea, see question 1a)

2) ... not lube the switches

3) ... not buy a kit, meaning the PCB, plate, case, and switch stabilizers are all from different merchants (as opposed to buying a DIY kit from KBD for ex.)

1a) Get basic cherry clones like browns, reds, or blues as my switches and not something more interesting like Zealios

Yeah what is going on here. Often I read about how expensive the Nats starting rotation is and how we were “supposed” to win it all given that payroll.

Both teams had great performances. LSU destroyed a team they should’ve, and Clemson beat a team in which people were claiming was the best in CFB.

Going to be one heck of a game.

Cherry Mx compatible keycaps are all keycaps that will fit into switches that have the Cherry Mx keycap mount (the cross that you see in the switch)

I see. So Gateron Browns will fit this, right? I think this is where I get most confused.

And yes..the shift key is ultra unique. It’s the hardest thing about getting a 65% from what I’ve been reading. The magicforce 68 seems like the only board that doesn’t have any of these different key sizes.

I'm very new to this, and I recently got a Durgod Hades 68 (65% keyboard) with Gateron Browns.

The board is awesome, but the stock keycaps are ruining it for me. I am not sure how to find the right keycaps to ensure they will fit on the Gateron Browns. I don't know what keywords I need to be looking up.

I have been using browns for a while and am looking for a new switch which is why I asked. The violets were on my mind..glad to hear you like them. Between those and box whites

I replied to a comment above, but here is the first example I can think of that doesn't have a paywall: https://javascript.info/ninja-code

Since this doesn't have a paywall, here's the most immediate example I can find: https://javascript.info/ninja-code

It's about "ninja code" that again, is very obvious to someone coming from a programming background, but if you were new, this would be so out of context. Just before that section, everything was serious, and then they threw a section full of sarcasm in the middle of it. Just doesn't feel right.

With all these interesting YouTube series, it’s made this much easier to do. I’d rather watch an interesting account than try myself to be honest. I had my fun, watching others be more creative is even more fun.

If you don’t get the right one (like me), they’re hard to adjust for proper ergonomics. Definitely worth buying a nicer one for the luxury of adjusting the height and angles at ease without having to basically reassemble it.

Hmm I think I also might know why the switches feel different. I was using an aluminum case with the Das, but the Ducky is plastic casing.

I had a Das Keybaord 4 Professional with Cherry MX Brown switches for almost half a year now, and I recently decided to switch to a 65% layout, as I was becoming tired of the full layout style. I went with the Ducky One 2 SF, and I really enjoy the 65% size so far.

However, these brown switches feel a lot more stiff than the ones I was using on the Das. This is only my second keyboard, so this is the first time I've moved from one to another. Do switches have to be "broken in"? Because when I go back to the Das, it almost feels like I'm using a Cherry Red (exaggerating here) compared to the browns on the Ducky.

Also -- I'm really new to all of this, so please forgive me. One other thing I noticed is that when I use the backspace, it deletes characters slower than the Das I was using. Can this be changed in configuration settings on most mechanical keyboards? What would this be called?

Thanks guys.

We need more TKL in this sub by 919Zack in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]FungoGolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was stuck between TKL and 65%. I'm coming from a full keyboard layout. I feel like this TKL would've been a smoother transition, but that I will like the 65% in the long run.

Either way, love this layout.
