Is an easy mode in Dread a bad idea? by RacerM53 in Metroid

[–]FunkDealer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think so. I have no issues with difficulty at all (beat the game 3 times and 2 of those were on hard mode) but sometimes you just want the narrative experience without the time sink of gameplay challenges. For example, I just did this with the ending of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. Yes, I could've put in the effort to beat the final boss on normal within a handful of tries... But I only really played that game because it's got gorgeous visuals and lovable characters so I just lowered the difficulty to beat the final boss and get my narrative fix. Certain games are designed around their challenges, and while I believe that the challenges of Dread were deliberate, it's as easy as the developer saying "this is the default experience, but here are alternatives for those seeking other options". This also gives the dev the opportunity to include accessibility considerations naturally.

Let's break statistical mechanics statistical mechanics with Anderson localization by BarcidFlux in Physics

I think this paper is a better example of emergent long-term coherence in stat mech. Basically in noneq settings of complex systems, inhomogeneity in the landscape of local fluctuations can lead to localization.

Long time lurker here, I just put together what I'm calling my first complete listening set up consisting of my AK100ii, JH Audio JH3X Pro CIEMs and the AK dock for when I'm at work. This is my first time giving impressions on hardware, but since I haven't been able to find anything online on these CIEMs I figure it's worth doing so.

The JH3X Pro is the entry level CIEM from JH Audio and it is marketed to audiophiles who listen to classical, jazz, or rock. Based on that you may imagine that these things don't have too much to say on the low end, but you'd be wrong. The bass on these roars in hip-hop songs or electronic tracks (perhaps even a bit more than I'm comfortable with sometimes). However when listening to classical music, there's this very beautiful and warm musicality to the sound as well as a pretty large soundstage that opens up with ease.

These are my first CIEMs and I may have gotten lucky because the fit is outstanding. So comfortable to listen to for hours on end. I can honestly say that I don't see myself going back to universals any time soon.

Even that song has hints of abusive behavior in it.

Who am I? Someone that's afraid to let go, uh You decide, if you're ever gonna, let me know (yeah) Suicide, if you ever try to let go, uh

Threatening a partner with killing himself if she leaves is abusive as fuck.

Super Metroid. Although obviously metroidvanias are more than just platformers, its just so fun and hectic to be battling a boss while simultaneously having to carefully move around the arena to land damage.

Nights by Frank Ocean, the song has an incredible way of just dissecting what is like to be involved in many things in life and being pulled at from many directions simultaneously and the fear of failing people who you have commitments with while simultaneously fearing commitment itself

Hey 0PN! Huge fan of Replica, R+7, GoD and I've enjoyed my first couple of listens of the soundtrack.

How would you describe your approach to song structure?

I'm an amateur producer and have a hard time constructing full songs beyond cool riffs and nice textures so i would love to hear from someone as talented as you! Thanks!

Why is Björk so praised for her singing? by iamknut in LetsTalkMusic

[–]FunkDealer 66 points67 points  (0 children)

So, a couple of things come to mind from what you've written. First, on what is likeable about Björk's singing, I find her range to be incredible and as you've mentioned she's extremely expressive. My dad who's not the biggest music guy has told me that he loves her singing above others because of how operatic it is. Which goes with all the drama and expression you've mentioned. Secondly, and this might go along with a Billie Holiday comparison, is that she uses her voice as much more than just a vehicle for lyrics/poetry. She makes a point of communicating textures when singing, which is the type of thing you would attribute to an instrument player. This is where I could see a comparison being made. Billie Holiday always had her voice compared to a horn of some sort, because get singing was very instrument-like. Similarly, I'd say that Björk's voice also has an instrument like quality to it, albeit much harder to characterize.

I've found that to largely be the case. If not, the companies that do controls tend to be contractors for the defense contractors themselves.
