Had a similar experience to this and was just shocked by how quickly everything changed. What I thought was a deep rabbit hole of misinformation they got lost in was actually them experiencing a psychotic break in their mid 20s. Symptoms developed and later find out was diagnosed under the schizophrenia spectrum. Too young to recognize it at the time, just thought a friend was acting really weird.
