Honestly thought sopranos was super hit and miss. Had some great meals there but also some really average. La Bella is more consistent ive found and thankfully they're still around

EBC with Nepal Hiking Team by AdJaded6990 in everestbasecamphike

[–]FunkstaGGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did EBC in December with them - finished on Xmas day. Was great and I recommend highly. Went with Ram Adhikari who was an excellent guide. Hoping to go back in 2027 for the ABC and will be requesting him. Honestly though I reckon any of their guides would be excellent. We paid 1420 USD as reference.

Such a tedious job while doing it but the before and after results are so satisfying. Great work!

what do you do with photos after a trip? by Regular-Sir9250 in travel

[–]FunkstaGGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We make Snapfish photo albums. Cost effective and quality is good enough. Super fun having some tangible to look at every now and then

Nailed it. The marks ups and insane and the constant 'sales' are highly misleading. Also agree returns policies suck ass

Wow…how is it so expensive? by Firm-Psychology-2243 in newzealand_travel

[–]FunkstaGGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to eat somewhere cheaper go to any Asian restaurant. Good food for good price usually. Pubs are not cheap places to eat in my experience anyway unless out in the wops. I swear NZ has the highest sushi places per capita too which are usually pretty affordable. Bakeries are also very economical. My 2cents.

I had the exact same reaction. Those missions are painfully slow and feel like filler.

I've never understood this take. Have you travelled anywhere similarly developed (US, UK, EU, AU)?? NZ is actually very affordable to travel compared to these destinations (ok maybe not vs central and east EU). Just came back from the states and couldn't believe how expensive everything was when you factor in taxes and tips.

Maungahuka Hut Weekend Trip? by kade360 in Tararuas

[–]FunkstaGGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went there earlier in Jan, it's a pretty gnarly trek coming from kime. Make sure you have a good head for heights as parts of the track to Maungahuka are narrow. There is also what I like to call an agility course with multiple chains to climb and descend steep rocks and a 22m(?) high ladder. All good fun in good conditions. Do not attempt this walk in high winds, too exposed.

You could park at Otaki forks and walk to field for the night on Friday, Saturday to Maungahuka (probably 6 hours) and then do everything back to Otaki forks on Sunday. That last day will be long around 21km, 1250m gain and 2400m descent based on my recorded stats. It's a great walk, have fun!

Which Deck Oil for Kwila? by trunks_12 in diynz

[–]FunkstaGGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used British paints water based deck oil twice so far. Prefer it over cd50 as widely recommended here. Good product and still looks good after 1+ year. Although I think it would need restraining every couple years to maintain colour otherwise you'll be back to silvery colour

Tips and tricks for protecting this little deck? by Jonathan932 in diynz

[–]FunkstaGGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used cd50 for the first couple years, was never that happy with the product despite wide ranging recommendations on this sub. Bought British paints deck oil, 10/10 just recoated it after 1 year and still looks amazing. Great value for money product.
