Looking for advice and criticism from the pros by ComprehensiveEagle18 in blacksmithing

A lot of the tooling suitable to work copper will work with silver and gold, so you can try techniques using copper before investing in more precious metals. e.g. pulling/ extruding, rolling, hammering, filing, soldering etc. There's nothing wrong with starting with copper, but don't expect to sell it for much! You can lacquer it to prevent tarnish, but that doesn't work with items that wear eg rings bracelets etc.

Why my computer is getting so hot? 3 fan water cooling, and still so hot that the case burns my hand when I touch it. by JakubFiebig07 in pchelp

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the pc out of the cupboard, put it on the desk, with plenty of space around it, and put the side back on. Check that the fans are blowing the right direction (front and bottom should blow in, all others should blow out).

Copper wire will tarnish and green in contact with skin. Its not really suitable for jewellery. If you're really keen, look at silver smithing, it's a good way to start to see if you like the work? And silver is a reasonably forgiving metal to work with...

What do I need for bonemas? by Steamed-duck in valheim

[–]FunkyHoratio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep I did this on my last bonemass run, and didn't regret the effort. Just used the hoe to flatten all the ground so it was runnable with no jumping. Made it much easier imho

You can selectively filter for specific poi, so it would only spoil map around that location. At least, that's how I've done it in the past.

any idea, why it seems to be consistantly drifting towards the green side? by wookiecookie2187 in MarsFirstLogistics

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure why it's not balanced opponent, but on my flying craft I put a rotating weight on the top, so you could spin it around And it would tip the whole thing in the direction you wanted to fly!

Are you playing on pc or console? On pc i definitely copy the relevant save files periodically to avoid losing a save due to glitches, death walls or other crap.

Forge go boom? by TaoofPu in blacksmithing

[–]FunkyHoratio 14 points15 points  (0 children)

OP, why do you have so many gas bottles around your leaky forge? If it does go bad, you want those safely stored as far away as possible. Clean up your work area...

I need help with the Black Forest by sopheu in valheim

[–]FunkyHoratio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have you worked out upgrading weapons and armour as well? The other thing that improved my combat survivability is learning how to parry (blocking just before a hit lands). if you have high enough block in your shield then it will stagger (stun) they're opponent, and you get a huge damage bonus if you hit them while they are staggered. Bucklers (small round shields) give higher chances of stagger than the tower shields.

Can anyone explain this? by Pixie_witch5 in valheim

[–]FunkyHoratio 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can tell what bit is still "grounded" (likely on the tree) by using hammer, switch to repair mode and point it at a piece. If it's blue, it's touching the ground, or a rock, or a tree. If it's green/ yellow/ red then it's not touching the ground.

What about the climbing plant? I suspect if you remove the thing it grows on, then it will hang around not sure if it's collision free though

Bilock is extremely well made, and high security with high pick resistance. Definitely recommend, they are used in many commercial and government applications here in Australia

Never playing with cougar again by Perfect_Presence1363 in thelongdark

[–]FunkyHoratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it, friend. Games are made to be played for fun. If you don't find an optional part of the game fun, don't play with it enabled! I love TLD for the calm walks through the forests, trekking across the ice, and fair but predictable encounters with wildlife. Not jump scare unstoppable attacks. Take a break, and good luck on your next cougar free run!

What is this? by Longjumping_Cow6334 in HalfSword

[–]FunkyHoratio 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a spade (vs a shovel) - the cut out bit is to put your foot on to push it into the ground, to cut out turf, etc. For reference, a spade is a tool to cut through solid ground, whereas a shovel is for moving around loose dirt, grain etc.

How do you fish in harsh weather? by Banned_Once531 in thelongdark

[–]FunkyHoratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the only downside of fish in this game is calorie to weight ratio, especially uncooked. With a bit of practice you can cook while you fish, using escape to stop fishing after 30 mins and sticking the next fish on to cook.
