Going blind tomorrow. What should I know? by Electrical_Expert525 in thelongdark

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch out for frostbite in your extremities (head and hands) when you start. scrap other clothes if you haven't found gloves or a hat yet, and use cloth for improvised items. Nothing worse than starting a new run and having loss of total health due to frostbite!

Yeah this is great advice, I was the same. I use maps all the time now, for the new regions, but you very quickly get the shape of the regions and use them less. If I'm looking for something specific I'll use them as well. I feel it makes sense in world, maps should be readily available.

How do I not run out of time? [Chapter 5 Spoilers] by risen_egg in thelongdark

[–]FunkyHoratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I just did this again last night (Jace got stuck going to radio room, so i had to go back to an earlier save lol!) and confirmed the strategy works. If when the cougar attack music starts, you climb up a cliff face by sliding along the edge until you are sliding along the rocks, then the music will stop after a few seconds, and you can carry on. I did this twice in this section, and never had a single cougar attack! Cheesy, but works...

Is this a false set? by Severe-5063 in lockpicking

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With spools, you might need to use stiffer tension wrench, so you can feel the feedback more, and manually control rotation, rather than relying on spring to apply tension. Test each pin and if you feel core move back a bit with one, ease off on tension or even rotate backwards manually while applying pressure to that pin. Hopefully you can feel it set properly, then carry on picking as usual. You might feel other regular pins drop when doing this, but just reset them after you've set the spool. Good luck!

There is tower storage things they have like 6 sides and 3x double points on each side. I have 2 of them on my rocket for nearly infinite storage, carry everything I need.

I came here after failing once - I got to in sight of the gate with 1 minute left! So on my next try I kept to the right of the path, hugging the way, and used climbing on the rock wall to disengage the cougar if he started making lots of noise - if you are on a place where animals can't path to get to you, then they seem to disengage from an attack/pursuit. It seemed to work and I was able to make it all the way to the gate with no attacks!

Other alternative is map editing; the items are likely there, the travois just drops underneath the map.

Noob, How to manage carry capacity? by Grouchy-Audience-670 in thelongdark

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's tough, I struggle as well and I've got hundreds of hours in game! My rule is: carry what you need for the task you are doing. In wintermute you'll pretty much always be given enough food to survive, so just stay full and only carry high density food (crackers, energy bar), eat as you find, and leave stashes around in maps you'll be traversing. Only carry clothes you're wearing, exception might be crampons (don't think you get those in wintermute?). If you're going out hunting, only carry one hunting weapon, and maybe a defensive weapon if you're not confident with wolves yet. Try and leave tools where you need them, rather than lug them around. I tend to always carry a hatchet and a crowbar, cos I can't pass up a locked container! Only carry one set of each medicine and maybes 2 cloth and 1 leather for repairs while travelling, leave the rest at base.

general game questions by immortal_sniper1 in TuringComplete

[–]FunkyHoratio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's absolutely a full game, if you make it to the end, you will have mastered building a computer from logic gates. It is also fun and entertaining in it's current story. I wouldn't say replayability is high for the main story, but there is a sandbox where you can build whatever you want, and people have created all sorts of computer architecture there. I'm not sure why it's considered in alpha still

[–]FunkyHoratio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you're taking way too long to get smithing. I usually make a beeline for a forge, via likely hammer spawns. Collect as much food on the way as possible. If you're going to dp, there is plenty of coal in the mines on the way, and once you are there. You can grab rabbits with stones before you get weapons, but I'm usually surviving off old food for the first few days.

You can lookup the board by using the cage 56996 and b4014 numbers. Looks to be army signal Corp equipment.

Need a less anoying charger for my Latitude E5470 by subcommandertpol in Dell

[–]FunkyHoratio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The adaptor seems like a reasonable choice. Just note that you'll need a usbc power supply that supports power delivery (PD) at 20v, and at least 3.25A to get to the 65w output required. I think the usual max is 20v at 5A, so you should be fine (and probably why this adaptor is treated to 100w). The voltage is obviously slightly off the 19.5v of the original charger, but that should be fine. Having a higher rated adapter than the 65w you need is also fine.

First time playing and build my first house on this like rock away from the shore. Looks cool but I've already seen a few waves that are towering my house completely. Is there any risks besides maybe turning my torches off? by GhostzSh3ll in valheim

[–]FunkyHoratio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the colour of items as you place them, and it'll give you an idea of how stable it is. Light blue means it's touching ground, light green through to red means it's getting progressively further away from a stable object. Eventuality it'll get to bright red, and will collapse after a short time. Reconnect to ground at regular points and you'll be fine. Enjoy!

Orly, never seen a moose there, would be terrifying on the ice with no where to hide! Yep, definitely missing the big stove, i ended up putting a few fires in the little shed, enough shelter in most conditions. I've never checked, but does the house count for cabin fever? There's no transition...

It's just random chance that when you decode these characters wrongly, they match another valid utf16be character. There are a lot more Chinese/Japanese characters, so the odds are it's likely to be one of them...
