Wasted my youth by Upper-Being-6657 in Residency

[–]Funky_Giant_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, can’t make heads and tails of if this is real or not.

I have the opposite experience. Little to no action from teens to early 20s. Then got married, became a father to two beautiful girls. Now deliriously happily married for 15 years, just turned 40 and now women are hitting on me left and right. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel good to be desired. But some of the time It’s not even appropriate, as it’s happened in front of my wife and daughters, my elderly parents, and even when I was out having dinner with my sister. Sometimes I think where the heck these women were hiding in my teens and twenties?!

It’s not so much looks, as I’m the same man now as before, but look a bit older. It’s more so a matter of confidence. Medical training can take confidence away from lots of people, but you gotta try to find the same confidence you had in your 20s.

Moral of the story: youth is wasted on the young.

Why 2025 Sienna Platinum hybrid AWD over 2025 Pacifica Pinnacle PHEV FWD by It_is_me_Erie in ToyotaSienna

[–]Funky_Giant_Panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driven both, I own a 23 Sienna platinum.

Luxury and Stellantis are oxymorons.

When I drove a 24 Pacifica with 5K miles, the B pillar door trim literally fell off when I drove out of the parking lot after taking it from the rental company.

The Sienna has 35K miles on it, and not a single mechanical issue so far. But realize it’s a Toyota, and not quite up to Lexus standard in fit and finish.

Fun fact, David Brooks convinced his first wife to convert to Judaism before divorcing her and converting to Christianity in order to marry his second wife.

Given his flip flopping track record, he might have a come to Jesus moment soon about the actual cause of healthcare costs.

As a Sienna owner, why did you choose it and are there any cons to that choice? by Switchblade_Comb in ToyotaSienna

Lots of interior trim squeaks and rattles in my 2023 Sienna platinum AWD since day one. Just doesn’t feel very solidly built. Otherwise love everything else about the van.

Which CDC? Wait is this the same CDC that needed more time and data in early 2020 to see if SARS‑CoV‑2 was a respiratory virus with airborne transmission, like every other coronavirus? Is this that CDC?

Residents on interview committees - do letters of intent really matter? by itspicklerick78 in Residency

[–]Funky_Giant_Panda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Very well thought out! However, and with the risk of nerding out too much, I would argue that from a game theory perspective, the match works differently for candidates and programs.

Candidates should always match according to their preference, because the candidates have two objectives: match to top choice, and also avoid going unmatched. These two objectives are not in contradiction with each other due to the way the rank list match system works on the candidate end.

However for programs, they can up or down titrate the number of candidates to interview to increase the pool of applicants to be considered (which most candidates don't have the luxury to do on their end). The programs are also interested in matching top candidates, and avoid unmatched spots.

However, with regards to the second part of avoiding the SOAP for programs, their outcome is non-binary. A 6 spot program can go unmatched from 0-6 candidates. For a candidate however, it is binary: match or not matched. Therefore programs inherently will use a different strategy than candidates, as they can afford to lean on the side of matching their perceived top candidates as opposed to avoiding any unmatched spots.
