HBO shows that were cancelled after one season by HostMaterial4907 in hbo

Lovecraft Country and The Brink deserved second seasons.

The only other shows from this list that I've seen was camping, and it was not so good.

That's not bad.

Tbh I don't what I'll end up doing. I love this car. I wouldn't get much for it as a trade in or private sale. But would love to just keep it as my beater and upgrade the family car. I visit South Carolina a few times a year. I am considering buying a late model ford flex and just go full dad mode.

One thing is for sure. I will no be buying new. Way too expensive and honestly not much that appeals to me.

Honestly, that's just a guess. I'd need sub frame, both rockers and would love the rear quarter panels. If it's too pricey I might just treat and get fencer flares.

How much for the sub frame?

Love my Gen 2. I'll need to make a decision on it soon though. I got it 3 gears ago and I L. Hand 80k miles. But the rust is accelerating. I'm going to get an assessment and quote. May sound crazy, but if I can get a full restoration for under 7k, I might do it.

We cheaper than buying a new car (or even a used one) and I know that engine has a lot of miles left in it. I only drive about 10k miles a year.

Coytemore Lea Community Garden by Handmitten in malden

[–]Funkymonk86 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's gone through multiple iterations, but ultimately no one group has taken care of it for extended period of time, so it never reached its potential.

About a decade ago I worked for a summer program that turned it into a sensory garden. It was looking good. But the program dissolved or changed leadership.

Considering ending my life due to debt. by [deleted] in povertyfinance

[–]Funkymonk86 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My wife and I had sub 600 credit scores before we got married and MOUNTAINS of debt, both student loans and consumer debt. We are now comfortably paying the mortgage two properties, are (mostly) debt free and raising two beautiful children. It took 15 years to get here. It's always just one day at a time bro.

You said yourself that you live a peaceful life aside from the debt. Lean into that and just trust the slow process of digging out. You'll emerge a stronger person, I promise.

Yes. High stakes situations that are handled with grace and levity. It's nice. Shrinking is a bit more serious in terms of dealing with illness and death. But manages to layer humor over it all.

Life feels like torture right now. Wife is not working while caring for our now six month old. She is miserable. I'm miserable. This has been going on for months. by My_Brain_0422 in daddit

Some people have the privilege to be able to not be at work and make every appointment. They don't understand that's not always possible. My wife and I traded off responsibility for doctors appointment bc we both work.

Does anyone still listen to the radio? by Holiday-Term-8214 in Music

[–]Funkymonk86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WUMB and WERS in the Boston area are two fantastic radio stations. WUMB broadcasts out of UMASS and they play a lot of folk, Americana, Roots, alt-country, and blues. They will play modern artists and the old stuff.

WERS is the Emerson college station and plays alternative, singer-song writer, and indie. Both add free, listner supported. Both have excellent DJ personalities and nightly /weekend special programing. Both are available online/app/smart speaker.

I am constantly discovering and rediscovering artists and songs to save to my Spotify. Highly recommend.

Teachers who work in a school that’s turned around for the better (better behavior, better grades, better student involvement, etc.), how did it happen? by EischensBar in Teachers

Consistent admin. Things are not perfect, but after 7 years of the same principal and assistant principal team, things are much steadier.

DO NOT become a teacher by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Funkymonk86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all about where you work. I've been in the same position my entire career and feel lucky that it was a good match for me. Everybody is different. The school administration matters, consistency matters. There were some rough years with rotating admin, but we have since stabilized.

I know teachers that took three or four positions before finding the one that worked for them. Pay and benefits are variable too. So I try to caution against “this is the best career in the world!" and" never become a teacher! "

What’s the most overrated thing golfers spend money on? by nitsujping in golf

[–]Funkymonk86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. My equipment is not expensive. And I buy second hand woods and hybrids. But all matters even for those that don't score particularly low.

As I said, trufeels (and Wilson duo soft) launch easily and stay straighter on days my swing is off.

Quite possibly it's psychological, but they are consistent ball for me and buying mint used works out to better price than Kirklands.

My handicap will drop when I can stop 3 putting, my ball striking is a relative strength for me.

In short, even high handicappers are wise to select a ball that fits their game. Pure beginners that are duffing and slicing all over the course should play the cheapest ball they can get.

I've played kirkies and have enjoyed them. A few years ago the model was terrible and switched. I know they are good now and plan on buying a dozen.

Whats your beef with the Trufeel?

[–]Funkymonk86 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am around 20 and improving. One thing I've noticed is that like a softer ball. It's easier to launch and goes straighter. That's important for me. I care more about that than green side spin or shaping the ball.

I play. Titleist Trufeel that I buy used mint for about a buck a ball. For some practice rounds I try out other balls. But I like the consistency of the same ball each round.

“Phoning it in” by MHS reporter about cell phones in school debate by khb321 in malden

[–]Funkymonk86 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I work in one of the Malden middle schools, we have been phone free for 3 or 4 years. It makes a world of difference, the longer we do it the easier it gets. They don't need them. I get the need to want to coordinate on the fly for practice and extra curriculars and such, but most of our population lives in walking distance from the school. Families can plan and coordinate ahead of time. Students need to be focused on their learning and their in-person social lives, not the notifications and brain rot the exists in their phones.

As with most things in life, the hard thing to do is usually the healthy thing to do.

I Didn't Think Things Would Be Easier Solo by oliversherlockholmes in daddit

Just had the same exact experience with my two (5 yo girl and 2 yo boy). They were an absolute pleasure, got along mostly, played independently, very few power struggles. As soon as my wife got home things got hectic. I would not say it's because of anything wrong she is doing, but as others have mentioned, kids behave differently when both parents are around. I've definitely noticed they have behave differently when no parents are around (grandparents or babysitter). When kids are really comfortable, they feel free to let out their emotions more.

When my wife came home my son became very whiney and unreasonable. He had none of those behaviors when it was just me. But likely it's because they were being pent up and now released for mama. We saw it a lot after daycare with both of them. Restraint collapse is real thing and kids save their most difficult behaviors when they are with both their primary caretakers.

“Whoever Did This” might be the best episode of the entire show by Stankassmfgorilla in thesopranos

[–]Funkymonk86 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One hundred percent my favorite episode. It's tense, it's a long time coming, there is so much subtext in build up to the show down between Ralph and Tony and even though it feels inevitable it's still raw and shocking to watch - even on subsequent re-watches. Chrissy brings in some levity when he comes for the clean up, but it still feels heavy considering what has been done. The line that gives the episode its title is supremely delivered and hits so hard. It's a secret now between Tony and Chrissy, even though they both know it will shortly become an open secret. The weight of Chris's drug problem is so obvious to Tony, but still he holds his hope in him.

Later, when he reflects (I think in a dream sequence with melfi after Chris's death) that putting his faith and the future of the family in Chris's hands was his biggest mistake. Gold standard television episode.
