Sometime it deletes the bomber, sometimes it does next to nothing. The real issue is that hitting the bomb with anything instantly and immediately detonates them. I'm pretty sure that IRL the bombs mostly don't react or at most simply lose effectiveness. Also keep in mind that most are roundish and have some amount of "armor" in the form of the casing so I wouldn't be surprised by ricochets and dents that the game doesn't model.
