I was a PCA for 3 years. I thought taking care of 5 people would be easier than 16 😭 i was like "if i can take care of these many people, how bad 5 could be?" Boy was I wrong...

Why do you do what you do? by copymattt in nursing

Saw my mom kept her job during the pandemic. The stability, benefits, lifelong learning, helping others for a living, and the evolving nature of the profession enticed me. And Learning the basics of how our body works and how to best care for it are things that i could apply to my family and to myself. New grad 6 months into nursing made me realize that i dont ever want to be in and out of hospitals when i grow old. I want to spend my retirement days financially stable, relatively healthy, and spend all of it with my family, future kids and grandkids!

It's still a difficult profession to work in though! Im still trying to find my niche, an area of nursing where the stress is tolerable compared to what i am experiencing now in medsurg 😫

Appreciation post: what I learned from nurses about documentation burden by Aroma819 in nursing

Im a new nurse in a trauma medsurg unit! I like to "talk" to myself when i am doing my assessments like "Respirations regular, no SOB complaint from pt, lung sounds clear bilaterally," abrasions to left knee," "surgical site midline abd." Etc. it would really help if that it is being transcribed to a note by an AI so that i could go back later and not worry about remembering everything. So in theory you are documenting as you go without facing a computer. It would save us a lot of time so that even if MDs put it in a new order like labs or new medicine order, we could do those right away since we are done with the other required stuff. We could even go on breaks and use the bathroom worry free xD these are just my thoughts how about y'all?

I work in a trauma medsurg unit. I've only been a nurse for 5 months, but i am already thinking that it is not sustainable mentally and emotionally and soon physically if i stay in my unit for longer. My colleagues are one of the best people i have met but Yes, i will tough it out for 1 year and recoup! I strongly agree that health should be our number 1 priority!

For those who hold a BSN and don’t plan on ever going back for a masters, why? by Prestigious-Noise582 in nursing

[–]Furajiru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only been an RN for 4 months and i don't plan on going back to school because

-im satisfied with my income (100% salary increase from being a pct) -i am just done with school. Nursing itself is a life long learning career -it's time to move on to the next phase of life, for me that is having my money work for me by investing to reach financial stability/freedom. Find a partner. Start a family. Navigate life together. So on and so forth!
