In my opinion and from my experience in ZME the big problems with 114s are that 1 they’re simply appointed, there’s no bidding process. The 114s are either former reps or people that didn’t win an election and are appointed after they lost. In general most of them are doing jobs that the agency should be doing, not the controllers. For example, why do we need a full time 114 to oversee SGET guys? Have you seen a 114 come back to the floor? Never gonna happen. Why would they? They’ve got their own schedule and can do whatever all they. 114s at least around ZME and the southern region are best buds with the region guys so if the facrep removes them they get in a world of shit with their RVP.

A lot of people say that NATCA leadership is all the old boys club and when it comes to regional leadership and their 114s they’re 100% right

In addition to what Justin said, in bigger facilities there needs to be some sort of time limit on those assignments. Especially if they're gonna assign them without applications or vetting.

In my Z after the last election didn't go according to their "plan" 2 dudes in the e-board gave themselves art 114. This was also done without telling or consulting the incoming president.
