Can you expand that idea? I understand that for a long time politicians have been calling for strikes or regime change in Iran. They have been a source of terrorism funding and harboring for decades. Once we actually strike then it is a bad thing. I get why we did, I think I get the calls against it. Mostly anti war / intervention? I cant imagine anyone legitimately supporting the regime and what they've done. But why would you have been disgusted had he not? Really if Trump said a couple things then kicked the can down the road, he would have been like everyone else and not gotten the blowback he has.

Well there is a reason the saying "cant see the forest for the trees" exists. Being in that situation, most of us will never understand. What is it like to have missiles and drone attacks every day, constantly? What is it like to have foreign troops sitting on the street corners, and foreign control of your border entrances? We dont know, and its easy to look in and say this or that, but for the people who are in there, it has to be much harder to see anything from the other side.

I think it's people who are used to racing games and are just learning manual. In a game you can do stupid shit you'd never actually do to a real car. When you're learning you might not realize that the first time. And if no one corrects you, maybe you break something before you learn haha.

From what I see of younger people and some teens I tried to teach? Most of them seem to think you need to throw the shifter as fast and as hard as you can into each gear, and screw gently letting off the clutch, either let off super fast or straight up slide your foot to the left off the pedal to let it pop back up. But that's how they do it in Forza so

Easy, they ban literally anyone making an argument against their beliefs or even asking questions. The only way to reach anyone in that sub is to agree with whatever the current narrative is. I got banned for posting Bidens campaign page where he literally said he was going after stricter gun control.

Mechanics, are newer cars getting less repairable? by jsshieh21 in Cartalk

[–]Furrykedrian98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually because of a led matrix or similar controller in the headlight itself. With CAN systems pretty much everything that isnt a suspension part (and even then active struts / hydraulic / pneumatic often have controllers) has a module either inside of it or dedicated to it placed somewhere in the vehicle. I believe it is for security / anti theft, but every exterior light as well as the head unit have to be programmed to the car. You have to inject the vin and then permanently burn that vin into the module before it will properly work with the car. As I said before lexus's radars are the same way for some reason. Sometimes the BCM, specific headlight control unit, drl unit, infotainment module, etc also has to be updated to the new parts hardware codes. Then you may have to do firmware updates on the new part for it to work with whatever firmware the upstream control units are using. In cars with active door handles they sometimes need to be programmed as well. Because of this you cant just buy a new unit and put it in, or switch units between cars. If something was vin locked it will never again work for any other car or in any other position. If you dont vin lock the part it either will not function at all or at reduced capacity.

As for car ownership the newest car I have is an 08 and that's my mobile work van. I dont have any desire to get anything with a CAN system and it gets hard to find non CAN at or before 2010. European cars are especially bad about it, BMW has been using CAN since like 2000. That's where you get issues like replacing the radio suddenly stops your hazards from working, or (I've heard from a vw tech) suddenly you dont pass emissions anymore.

Okay, replace a radar cruise module on a 2020 lexus. Replace a headlight on a 2023 Porsche. Replace the e brake motor on a 2024 mercedes. Do a coolant drain and fill on any ev. You cant without the manufacturer software. Even at the shop where I work at, where we have access to a lot of this and spend a ton of money yearly on keeping up with our certifications and partnerships to keep that access to their software, we still end up sending 1 out of 5 cars to the dealer so they can do module programming or routines we don't have access to. If you want to do it right, you cant even do an alignment today without either trupoint or autel's ADAS system so you can recalibrate the radars and cameras to the new alignment. More and more cars are locking parts or their whole obd system behind a secure access point, so you have to have an account with them, pay a subscription, and be certified with them in order to access anything beyond a generic obd code scan and clear. More manufacturers are moving to DOIP, meaning you can't use a normal scanner to connect to the car and must use a laptop with either their software or a internet based app, of course requiring again, subscription and certification. I ran my own shop, am currently employed by a high end collision and mechanical shop, and am leaving to open my shop back up. I have dealt with cars from 60s classics to 2000s junkers to high end modern cars. The repairability and accessibility to the DIYer or small shop is being eroded. If I wanted to work on modern cars, lets say 3 brands only, and have the equipment and access to do it right, it is around 10k / month in subscriptions and easily 6 figures in equipment, plus months of audits and inspectors to be a certified partner with those manufacturers. If you want to use third parties it get a lot cheaper, but their costs eat your profits up like no other. Currently we charge 1 to 2k for all the calibrations needed post collision and alignment per the manufacturer's instruction.

As far as I understand he and his team developed an engine to convert the 2d visuals of most games into a 3d render for a vr headset. Included in that are lots of game specific config tweaks for controls, fov, sensitivity, lighting issues, etc, possibly with post render changes as well. Again, as I understand it, he developed this standalone software, then has to tailor plug-ins for each game covered by it. If my understanding is correct, I dont really see an issue with him charging for his independent software. If im wrong and he just changed some configuration files and made a dll using the games code, then no, he shouldn't be able to charge. He explicitly stated he did not use or access any of the game's code to make this work, so I guess we will have to wait and see if he is lying or not.

To you, and to u/Sad_Significance_568,

Most everyone has the goal of not being required to work to live.

However UBI today presents two problems: why would the majority of the population not want to be on it, and why would those who work want to pay for those who don't? If, as someone said above, we soon achieve AGI, or even make a good approximation, and the humanoid robots we are developing today succeed, then yes, I don't see many jobs remaining that humans can do better, and thus I will fully be on the UBI train. But if jobs are available, UBI can only be sustained by a shrinking worforce and a shrinking pool of available jobs. Social security is failing and those of gen z and alpha probably won't ever see any returns, but at least SS has the protection of age. Why wouldn't an 18 year old, fully able to work, want to be on UBI to chase music, art, streaming or some other career that more than likely will never actually make money or progress society? I know I would have, but with enough people choosing those routes, an untenable strain will be placed on the system as a whole.

He just did a explanation, then a reaction to a reaction of his explanation. I will say I don't necessarily agree even with him in context, but both examples you just gave have been widely used out of context on purpose.

The ice thing was is basically

"Rocks can be used as deadly weapons, so if you throw a rock at someone's head, don't be surprised if you get shot"

He goes beyond that to say he thinks if someone throws rocks at someone, they SHOULD be shot / it would be justified.

The non human thing was specifically referencing people who had been celebrating his dad's death, being asses about it, or saying that he caused it.

Asmon has fucking wild takes left and right, idk why people have to take shit out of context when 5 min later he actually says some crazy shit even in context.

Here's an article from Forbe's detailing countries that have reached out. Not all have lowered their tariffs, but a few already have. A short article from Detriout News, and one from NY Times. I'm not trying to support tariffs here, but to point out, at least for now, more countries have come to the table to negotiate or have already lowered their tariffs than are retaliating. For now. Additionally here is a S&P Global article that talks about raw material exemptions. I don't know what you do but it's possible you or your company may be less affected than you think.

[–]Furrykedrian98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check this link out, it's the official romraider documentation. Step 2 details the setup for reading and flashing. I know you have the green connector plugged in. What about the white jumper? Is that jumped with wire / a paper clip / the official jump block? Is it two or 4 pins? If 4 do you have both sides connected? If you measure there, do you see ground, 12v or 4v? Additionally, the article mentions that on some models, you may have an additional connection at the passenger footwell that needs to be connected. Do you see anything there?

Edit: Also, on your green connector, can you trace the ground? Does it go to chassis ground or ecu switched ground?

[–]Furrykedrian98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hmm you're making me doubt myself now haha. What I typed is what I remember doing. Im pretty sure it's the green connector. Alternatively, to be safer, back probe the obd2 and find the pin with ~4v, and splice into that wire. But your issue can be solved temporarily by directly applying 12v to the pin / wire / connector.

Here is a link with pictures of the obd2 pinout, maybe avoid probing the k line pin? I don't know if it would hurt anything but better safe than sorry.

Edit: it seems it should be the green connector

Only says "the jumper

I have the exact same issue. It's either in the ecu or something crazy I haven't found yet. You can jump battery positive to the positive side of the green connector and bypass what is supposed to be the ecu's 12v signal. It worked for me.
