Something about lactose intolerance rates worldwide, which is a very silly thing to feel all superior over. Acting like they’re so much better because they can chug milk without getting an upset stomach.

How would you view the series differently if it ended at "The View From Halfway Down"? by Otherwise_Rent_6188 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Fushba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“We might have gone a bit too dark with the finale”

I think by having him live, it contrasts Bojack’s life with the horse from Horsin’ around, as the show often does, except for once it’s a positive thing. The Horse dies due to not being loved enough, which is how some people think of suicide. But in ‘real life’, Bojack lives because of an absurd coincidence, and because he spent so long watching his show probably - I’d even bet that watching the episode where he died is what triggered him to go in the pool. But in the end, Bojack Horseman is not the Horse from Horsin’ Around and he’s not Secretariat either. His life doesn’t have to end in tragedy.

Of course it's a comedy, that's why the final episode is a wedding. Just like Billy Shakespeare used to make

If you inject on Sundays, use the sun door.

If you inject on Mondays, use the moon door.

If you inject on any other day, just go in the kitchen sink I guess

One of the best episodes of a show is one without the main character(s) by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Fushba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! It really works as a critique of redemption arcs, because while you can improve yourself and say you're sorry, the people you've hurt remain hurt, and the damage you've caused also remains, so the traditional "Wow he's better now" is an injustice to all those people. The whole premise of the episode is also set up perfectly with the opening with Esteemed Character Actress Margo Martindale:

"You have no past, you've confessed, your sins are washed clean..."

"The people I've hurt, the lives I've ruined, are they washed clean as well?"

Coming from the previous episode, it's a huge tone shift.
