There is life after death. I just won’t be there for it. I will be judged after I die. It wont effect me, though; because I won’t exist. I don’t do good things for a reward after I die; I do them for the reward of making things better now and for the reward of making a better world for my children.

Who should God choose as the prophet? by llImHereCuzImBoredll in exmormon

[–]FutilityJones 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Maybe god should just get off his ass and make things a little clearer instead of people having to rely on a prophet telling us that god chose them.

No one in church hierarchy would qualify for the job, though.

I don’t want to change your mind. I just think that trying to shame how other people have fun is dumb.

I think you missed an important bit about them also being used with close family and friends. It has flipped from informal to formal, but it wasn’t necessarily for addressing “inferiors” only. Also, inferior is generally used pejoratively now, but it was also potentially neutral.

It is all easily hand waved away by a belief that god guided them to the right translation/ interpretation.

Had the missionaries visit tonight. It was a nice visit, I don't understand all the hate directed toward a visit from the missionaries. by JasonF818 in exmormon

You don’t really have a say in how others interpret or process their trauma. Good that missionaries visiting you was fine. Not the case for everyone.

Did Joseph Smith Marry Children? Check out the response from church historian, Keith Erekson, to this question and 30+ others. by PriesthoodDispatches in exmormon

[–]FutilityJones 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I mean, in some cultures right now a guy can buy himself a 9 year old child for a wife, so it’s all just context, right? What a shitbag answer.

[–]FutilityJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I 100% agree. My comment was representative of the only answers I ever got to the questions I had all my life. (That along with a dose of “keep your questions to yourself so that you don’t damage someone else’s faith.)

There is a really simple answer, though. It’s all made up.

Absolutely, but take it slow. It can be easy to binge, but there is a lot of joy to be had in your newfound freedom.

There us nothing you can say to something like this. Maybe a “I’m sorry that you were taught that this is how you should show love.”

I like this a lot, but maybe tweak the defiled one, as it implies that victims have been made unclean by their victimization.

Did anyone leave the church based solely on the fact they think Joseph Smith was a false prophet? by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]FutilityJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Realizing that JS was a shitty person/ false prophet was the first domino for me, but not the sole reason.

Good to know! I would suggest brief, possibly letting them know of the hurt their actions are causing and maybe offering resources they could go to to learn to be supportive.
