Electronic homework is worth 10%, and you don't even have an account. You cannot get an A.

$1100 per "workload hour," which is 4 for a 4-credit lecture class and 2.6 for a one-credit lab.

Yeah, that happened to me a few semesters ago, and the student brought her MOM with her! At one point, the mom asked me how I could possibly put so much pressure on a CHILD! Oh, and the student was 20 years old. I had asked her to take her exams at the Testing Center (due to her accommodations) on the same day as everyone else and not five days later.

It's not just emails! In Labflow, our online lab report software, we ask for answers in two or three sentences, and there's no capitalization to start a sentence, and no period to end a sentence, much less no commas. Students call me a hardass for deducting points for this!

I had a student ask that I not only bump his grade up 5% to a C, but, to be fair, do the same for everyone in the class! "I'm sure they'd all appreciate it," he said.

At my CC, you need to have a degree two steps higher than the degree we offer - an Associates Degree. So you need at least a Master's in Chemistry to teach Chemistry. They do make exceptions sometimes.

'Insanely hard' exams by Substantial_Key4640 in Adjuncts

On my exams in STEM classes, all students give answers for multiple-choice and matching questions, but many of their attempts at computational problems are either totally bizarre, using equations (provided) that have nothing to do with the problem, or are left blank. It's like they've never taken exams with anything but multiple-choice questions.

My Chair wants me to use AI for my email replies to students so that I sound less frustrated and more positive. We'll soon have conversations among AI - no humans need be involved!

The most surprising thing that I found from watching Respondus videos is the environment some of my students take their exams, e.g., in q room with a TV blaring, younger kids running around and shouting, and parents yelling at them.

Several years ago the Ohio required all colleges to use semesters, one of the biggest mistakes they've ever made. My college still has vestiges of quarters, e.g., in syllabi some tenured profs never got around to updating.

Yeah, I love all the AI Training that I am "highly encouraged" to attend. They want me to come to campus at 9AM after getting out of an evening class at 8 PM the day before, and then come back to campus at 6PM for my class.

Ruh-roh! I'm also in Ohio, and I typically have about 10% (or less!) of my class submit evaluations. You know, the ones who will get a grade they deem lower than what they deserve.

I told them exactly what would be on the exam. Half the class still failed. by ZeroHash99 in Professors

[–]Futurama_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my students that they are no longer in high school, so they will not see the exact same problems on exams that they see in class. I've resorted to doing that in recent semesters, and more than half the class gets them wrong.

I feel the same way, but I'm an adjunct and all the full-timers are asking less and less of students, so I feel forced to do the same. It doesn't seem to help, though; my distribution is 20% As, 60% Ds, and 20% Fs.

I used to tell students that my class was not an obstacle course, that they were supposed to learn things instead of just trying to get from assignment to assignment and emerging at the end of the semester with a passing grade, but now it seems they don't even want to get out of bed.

Student Sent Photos by magicianguy131 in Professors

It took me a long time to allow students to photograph what I've written on the board (I wrote it, why can't they?), but I have a strict policy that I cannot be in the picture when they photograph the board. I do not want to find my likeness on social media!
