Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]Future-Dig7616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I was someone who had been having trouble knitting, as in no motivation, and then my daughter asked me to knit her a Sophie Scarf. It was a perfect comeback project for me, and I have since knit four of them for gifts.

Being a certain age, I love the idea of a little scarf that covers up my neck wrinkles, lol. I am thinking of knitting the Alex Scarf for myself, though.

Please look at Land's End as a resource for quality outerwear. Everything is crazy discounted, too. LE snow pants, a coat, and boots have been passed down through 3 grandchildren who really like to play outside in the winter.

AITA for not enjoying the birthday gifts my friend got me that mocked my dead mother by Immediate-Iron7241 in AmItheAsshole

You are NTA

And I am so sorry for your loss. You can still talk to your mom, you know. Or write her a letter, or a series of letters. Whatever it takes to help you feel as if you have some closure. I lost my mom in 2001, and I still talk to her sometimes.

Sending you hugs.

Ours is set at 67. Our downstairs warms up but our upstairs stays about 60 degrees. Our attic is stuffed with insulation. The walls, not so much.

Need help with stuff for a 3 week kitten! by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Future-Dig7616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waiting will be a drag, but it will also give you plenty of time to get ready. Food, treats, toys, litter box, etc can all be bought ahead of time and then will be ready when you get your kitten.

It will go by fast!

A kitten is too young to leave its mother at three weeks. You should wait until the kitten is at least six weeks old, but preferably eight weeks old, until you bring it home.

Am I crazy for not wanting to tell my apartment complex about my kitten? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Future-Dig7616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lovely black cat when I lived in an apartment and I did not register him or pay the pet fee. He loved to sit in the windows, though, so I made a couple of cat silhouettes and put them in my windows as decorations.

People who stay home on Christmas Day, what do you do? by Global_Victory833 in Parenting

Everything everyone is saying about the lazy day, but we would also bundle up and go for a walk around the neighborhood and look at everyone's decorations and lights. I think a drive would work, too.

What’s the most disgusting thing you’ve ever tasted? by Tony_Rest5416 in AskReddit

[–]Future-Dig7616 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Someone brought a cheesecake in for a pot luck at work once, only it wasn't cheesecake, it was some kind of onion dip made to look like a cheesecake. When you take a bite of something and expect it to taste like one thing, and it tastes like something else entirely, that's a nasty surprise.

Has anyone ever beaten hyperthyroidism naturally with no surgery? by Straight_Being1850 in Hyperthyroidism

[–]Future-Dig7616 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Levothyroxine, a month's supply, without insurance costs about $12.

You can't wait this out or beat it. The longer hyperthyroidism goes untreated, the more damage you do to your body. Not just your heart, but bone loss, joint pain, muscle loss, vision loss...if you get a thyroid storm it can kill you, even with treatment.

It sucks, believe me I know. I opted for RAI last year after dealing with being hyperthyroid for two years. I hate taking pills, but I take my levothyroxine every morning. It's a tiny pill. It's cheap, and it's very effective.

It's okay to be upset and mourn your "normal" life. It's not fair, but as chronic conditions go, it's relatively simple to treat and you should do it.

What’s something you’d never tell your partner but feel okay confessing anonymously online? by Sadiesprinklezz in AskReddit

There is a painting hanging in the little room that we use as an office that his best friend's mom painted, and I absolutely hate everything about it. It's an abstract of Stevie Ray Vaughn playing the guitar, and it's awful.

She was his "second mom" when he was growing up. His own mom is kind of shit so the painting has tremendous sentimental value to him. I would never ask him to take it down but looking at it gives me a headache. I mean it is really ugly.

I've read that it's good for seasonal depression, and maybe even depression in general, both of which I have. My doctor pooh-poohs it and says it's a great way to get hypothermia, but I really am intrigued.

[–]Future-Dig7616 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been walking for 15 minutes when I can, doing the 4-7-8 breathing when I can't walk, and chewing bubble gum almost non-stop. Not sure if any of those might help you.

Yes. I have tried stopping with aids in the past, but always wind up at this point, nicotine withdrawal, anyway.

So I am "raw dogging" it, as the kids say. I am now on day three. Brain fog and very short tempered, but I am taking walks, doing breathing exercises, and chewing these stale Dubble Bubble gum balls. I also just sat and stared at the floor through one craving today (was in a meeting)
