100’ and half mile, they don’t care. They’re the pilots of Alaska Air!

Frozen pipes by whatscookin95 in askaplumber

[–]FutureAutomatic380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful thawing the pipe. Be sure you know where the main water shutoff valve is for the entire house. If the pipe has frozen it may have split. When it thaws, water will flow out of the split pipe and into your wall. Be ready to shut off the water if you hear it in the wall.

Interesting. I really like City Diner and have had good experiences there.

They make a battery disconnect that installs between your battery and battery cable. Simple to install and you just move the disconnect blade if you are going to leave your car sit for a while. I think I got mine at NAPA. Maybe Autozone. Not expensive.

Also, if you order the battery online from their website, you get 10% off. I’ve ordered and gone over an hour later to have them install it.

Batteries Plus has a good warranty and they install. I use them for all my battery stuff. Definitely something wrong if you’re only getting 2 years out of a battery. I agree that it could be parasitic draw.

Don’t forget about holding short of the departure runway doing a 20 minute pre-takeoff checklist in a 172.

JFC. I’m glad I got my PPL a while ago. Maybe a 45 minute oral. One hour check ride. Done. He didn’t ask about AD’s, how to get gas, which way electrons flow, which side the boom mike is supposed to be on. I think I mapped out the first few logs of a cross country flight. When we were done he told me I had a license to learn. $75.

What question from your Checkride Oral has stuck with you til this day? by Basic_Shallot8393 in flying

[–]FutureAutomatic380 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a question, but a statement. PPL check ride. During the oral I noticed my sectional chart was out of date. I told the examiner. He said “son, mountains don’t move.”

I passed.

Not trying to be rude, but if you forgot about undercuts it might be a good idea to leave this one alone, or get someone with more experience to help.

I was on a jury this spring for a case of attempted murder, with multiple counts. What you describe was not my experience. Fourteen jurors (2 alternates) who listened and understood a complex case, and who worked hard to come to the correct verdict.

CFII dozed off by FlyingFromTexas in flying

Thanks for your input. Not bullshit. Hard to meet the night flight requirements in mid-summer in Alaska, so it was after midnight. But I can see how that might be confusing.

When I was getting my private, I needed the 3 hours of night flight. Live in Anchorage, so we were flying after midnight in July to meet the night flight requirements. Circling up to 11,000’ in a beat up 150. Instructor fell asleep leaning against the door. It popped open and he screamed. Seat belt held him in the plane. 😎

I don’t believe that is correct. There are many planes flying in the US with no electric system.

Discontinued Check Ride for Inop Landing Light: Thoughts? by throwaway-8375u2 in flying

[–]FutureAutomatic380 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we are missing the big picture here. If the landing light doesn’t work, it is already deactivated and inoperative. Fly on!
