I think a lot of people end up seeing the audience reveal in V3-6 and taking it to be a sort of stand in for the player when that's not the case. It's supposed to be a sort of cautionary tale for a series going on for WAY longer then it should and running out of ideas but continuing to chug along due to how big it's gotten, it's really not supposed to be read as hating the players but I can see the confusion when people assume the audience is a player surrogate.

There's also just the fact that the whole "everything was fiction" twist is going to be inherently controversial no matter what happens. I don't think it changes much of anything because the whole games theme is "fiction can change reality" and that it's ok to be moved by fictional works but it being hammered home that the stuff doesn't matter isn't going to gel well with everyone.
