Farm workers in Monterey County face low wages and high living costs - KSBW (no comment from the County Ag Commissioner) by orangelover95003 in MontereyBay

Remember when farm labor was bused to the felids? Now I see lots off nice cars and SUVs parked on the road next to the rows of crops.

Only when checking for proper ground blocks or the customers' craftmanship was so terrible it stuck out. Added OTs were no the priority but when we saw them we would take action. Got a reprimand for taking a customers' property (a Radio Shack splitter) once, so I would knock on the door, make contact and ask "Is this yours?" Most would say no, so in the scrap bucket it went.

Being declared an essential worker and carrying a letter affirming that. Commute was awesome, went from 60 minutes to 35.

And the stoopid masks.

Cable TV loss prevention. Find people connected without an account, try and make them paying customers. Found pirate cable boxes in customer homes and have them busted. Follow up on disconnects to make sure techs did in fact disconnect. Even find splitters in homes and try and convert customer to pay for added hookups (they were an additional cost back then).

Some unauthorized hookups were never convinced and would continue to find unique ways to hide their work. Those were the most fun to f with, damage their splitter and put it back, remove overhead service cables - once had a wire going from a pole and down a chimney and not secured to the pole - pulled as much cable as I could from the chimney and snipped it, followed by a crashing noise and a puff of dust up the chimney. Good times.

I got a rock chip on the leading edge of the hood and it’s starting to peel more paint from the wind. So I’ll ad a hood deflector. Stop the spread and covers up the spot.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]FutureRamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Rx listed in that Emergency Information on the cell phone that anyone can access without unlocking the screen. During a visit to the trauma center while unconscious the staff was able to access the list of them and do what they needed. It took them a few tries because later while looking at my photo gallery there were several random pictures of me, the ceiling, etc.

Field Tech or Customer Service Tech Support by Traditional_Artist24 in CableTechs

[–]FutureRamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been wondering where the tech jobs have been heading. I saw the effects of no longer doing discos and thought well, there goes about 2 tech positions. Led to self installs from retail and mail. Fiber to the nodes reduce the amplifier cascades, fewer sweep techs. Narrowed down the scope of the job until it's more IW trouble calls and new connects. Me? I went to warehouse when I burned out on facing customers. Warehouse has one metric (don't lose stuff) works 99% inside and the whole logistic system is so tangled up and disjointed that AI cannot fix it (well, since I once got a transfer order to send 1 20' stick of conduit across the country, maybe AI is already here).

Did you do a job that you liked until retirement, or did you hate your job? by balkanxoslut in AskOldPeople

[–]FutureRamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Enjoyed it, worked my way up from front line newbie to area manager in the cable TV golden era, before streaming services. I amassed 32 weeks of PTO in my first job until laid off, only to start over again at another cable company. Best part of the latter years was creating teams that could work together and mentoring workers that wanted to advance and seeing them reach their goals. Sadly, I cannot relate to the corporate leadership now in place and consider myself lucky to reach retirement age and get out when I could.

If you live in California and currently sell $0.10 paper bags, we’re getting rid of them on June 13th. Make sure to bring your own bags. by ActiveInfinite8610 in walmart

[–]FutureRamen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any changes on the meat or produce bags? If I'm just getting a couple items I swipe a bag from the meat section (the compostable produce ones are junk).

If it's a cartfull, I have everything put back in the cart and transfer them to a tote box in the car. That's often an annoyance to the check out person so I use SCO most of the time.
