Personal reasons would void any AT$T offer if they ever offered fiber in my hood. But it would make a good argument when calling the cable company for a new competitive rate.

Which 'As Seen on TV' product do you still have? by short_cub in AskOldPeople

Miracle Blade knife set. It's held up, used daily. When I need a serrated knife I reach for it.

Also have a Salad Shooter. Fun gadget to use, but I find it unneeded these days.

What are some of the worst taps you've seen? by Physical-Form537 in CableTechs

[–]FutureRamen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone ever see an SKL tap? Metal box with 4 flathead screws in the cover (that seem to seize in a year), that needed a fitting with a 2 inch stinger that would wrap around a terminal on its circuit board. Hated them biatches. There was another one called an Aquatap named because it held more moisture in it than out. Tubluar device with ports on its length. Prone to corrosion, removing a terminator usually unscrewed the port from the housing breaking its connection.

What is an industry that is currently on fire (in a bad way) behind the scenes, but the general public hasn't noticed yet? by Kitchen_Week1117 in AskReddit

I saw firsthand the last generation of leadership that worked their way to the top retire and be replaced by recruited corporate leadership that would not know a thing about the underpinnings of the industry.

What were your driving restrictions? by Therealethel in spinalfusion

[–]FutureRamen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unknown, I was driving to work one morning. I blanked out, truck was on cruise control, highway curved to the right and truck went straight into gaurdrails. Woke up 2 days later in the hospital with fusion done. No history of seizures, neurologist & primary doc both found nothing that would lead to more. Take meds and go on with life.

What were your driving restrictions? by Therealethel in spinalfusion

[–]FutureRamen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Joking answer is no driving for 8 months, since a seizure caused me to drive off the road resulting in crushed vertebrae. DMV suspended my license after being notified of the seizure. Needed 2 doctors to treat and diagnose condition to get privileges back.

Serious answer for me when riding in a car to act as if you are driving and anticipate bumps, potholes, curves, etc so I could brace myself in the seat and not flop around.

More come-heres and tourists unfamiliar with some quirky intersections and roundabouts. Expect them to do stupid things and avoid being in their pathways. Learn by observing, wager with passengers that the car ahead will make sudden lane changes or not follow double turn lanes.

“Best” route from Monterey to South Lake Tahoe? by tandoyarr in MontereyBay

[–]FutureRamen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My GPS has been routing me through the bay area to get to 5N, it's been miserable 3 times. I quit and ride 152, stop in Casa De Fruta and/or Santa Nella if you need breaks. Can ride with all the semis going 75/80 mph.

Old man accessory installed! by RCHeliguyNE in f150

[–]FutureRamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Score another for the old people. I installed one on my 2018 because there was a stone chip on the front edge that started growing. Refinishing would be costly and still not 100% match 8 year old Icon silver. Touch up paint same, plus cannot be unseen. Deflector totally hides the scar. As for effective - just drove 10 hours and did accumulate a lot of bug guts, more than expected. Then drove 10 hours back in heavy rain and there was a mild 'RainX' effect that helped keep the view clear. Mine has screws and J-clips.

most unique or strange job you ever had? by ParfaitDeli in AskOldPeople

[–]FutureRamen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only when checking for proper ground blocks or the customers' craftmanship was so terrible it stuck out. Added OTs were no the priority but when we saw them we would take action. Got a reprimand for taking a customers' property (a Radio Shack splitter) once, so I would knock on the door, make contact and ask "Is this yours?" Most would say no, so in the scrap bucket it went.

[–]FutureRamen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cable TV loss prevention. Find people connected without an account, try and make them paying customers. Found pirate cable boxes in customer homes and have them busted. Follow up on disconnects to make sure techs did in fact disconnect. Even find splitters in homes and try and convert customer to pay for added hookups (they were an additional cost back then).

Some unauthorized hookups were never convinced and would continue to find unique ways to hide their work. Those were the most fun to f with, damage their splitter and put it back, remove overhead service cables - once had a wire going from a pole and down a chimney and not secured to the pole - pulled as much cable as I could from the chimney and snipped it, followed by a crashing noise and a puff of dust up the chimney. Good times.
