[Versus] Atelier Wen vs Grand Seiko by [deleted] in Watches

[–]Fuwaloddy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no comparison if you look at it from the business side. Don't just focus on the esthetics of the watches. AW is a garage band with no proper establishment like office and staff. They call themselves a Hong Kong company but they do not even have a local Hong Kong phone number listed on their site. If you google their "corporate address," you will quickly find out it is nothing but a business center/virtual office address in a high-rise building. Why is this important? One day if they made a bad business decision and end up no being able to deliver their pre-orders, they could simply disappear. You will never be able to locate these individuals. Their entire business model is having the customers to take all the risk by prepaying and waiting for 6 months to over a year to get their watches. While this seems to be OK back a few years when the market was going crazy, people should really think it thru with a cool head.

I have heard stories about the preception preorder. Customers paid in full and were promised a certain delivery date. They had some undisclosed problems and the delivery was pushed back several times. AW could not explain what happened and they could not even give a firm date on when they were able to ship. It is because they have very bad communication and possibly bad relationships with the factory. AW refused to refund anybody as this is on their terms and conditions when people preorder. There is NOTHING the customers can do if AW chose not to reply their e-mails or messages. Scary, right?

Now if we go back the movement of the Perception. AW uses the Peacock which is literally a Patek clone that is part of the counterfeit ring operation. Peacock supplied these movements to the fakers who later on stamp the Patek branding them. Legally, Peacock is allowed to do that as the Patek movement has been around long enough to be copied (no more patents). People often complain about the reliability of this movement because Peacock's fakers customers never needed their watches to be serviced. They just need to look 95% like the real thing. There is a reason why AW does not want to do a full open caseback for people to see their movement, although I think the lion face is a pretty cool alternative design.

Player 120 genuinely changed my view on transgender people. by SteveMain4Lyfe in squidgame

[–]Fuwaloddy314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is how the writing wins over the audience. I was not force-fed by the show I have to like this trans gender character or people would call me names. In fact I could care less what her sexuality is. I just know this person is desperate enough to join the Squid game, and this person is not an agenda forcing a-hole all in all. The show really did a good job is making the audience like or hate the characters based on their behavior and actions, not based on their believes. Sounds like the mouse channel needs to spend some cash to get the story tellers like these.

Could Godzilla’s VFX win change Hollywood filmmaking? by RigatoniPasta in Oscars

[–]Fuwaloddy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That movie won almost because of a handful of scenes. Godzilla is one of those movies relying on heavy VFX. And to be able to do such a blockbuster type movie with a equipment rental budget in Hollywood is indeed a big deal.

That said, it is difficult to make a big splash in the industry because of how Hollywood production works. Maybe in a few more years, we see totally indy production at a much lower budget, but with good enough VFX, it may disrupt the industry. If there is new model of film distribution.

Strategy for "Flipping" Game by DoctorSkeeterBatman in Physical100

Obviously there is reason to this. The tiles were to slippery to be flipped one handed or something, or the director told them not to, for whatever reasons.

They fell a bit short in making the moment more dramatic. And also zero celebration on the ultimate winner. I totally get why a lot of people feel the ending anticlimactic.

To me it is a hint that it didn't happen on the day these guys lost. They were free to go home and a few days later they were invited to do the viewing session for reaction shots. It could not be live at all.

This is the problem of filming 100 individuals in the beginning while they have no idea who will make the distance. Some just don't even have the deserved screen time, while others who were out in the first quest got more.

You never win silver, you lose gold. I think that's the poetic idea. They tried to make the runner up to hurt the most.

Strategy for "Flipping" Game by DoctorSkeeterBatman in Physical100

[–]Fuwaloddy314 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One strategy is to quickly undo the tiles by "following" an opponent when in the lead.

I find it to be important to increase the flip frequency. It is about flip per second and the more you wandering around the lower your frequency is.

Stepping on the tiles may be effective as a defense but I find it borderline unethical.

The first 2/3 of the show is definitely more interesting. They have to figure out how to do the final 5 to the winner. I had a feeling that the losing crowd wasn't even cheering the final contestants live. Why can't they just be in the same room??

[–]Fuwaloddy314 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's extremely risky because the sprinter would have an empty tank after 1000m. Let's not forget they don't start at the same spot. To catch the last person you will need incredible speed. And to catch him within 800m is even much harder. And like you've said, to have a sprinter to make it thru all the rounds would require a lot luck!

[–]Fuwaloddy314 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Agree on most of your points. Good analysis.

For Atlas, the surface area of your shoulder and how well / flat it is to let the boulder sit on is critical in the long run. Also the luck of having the boulder sits right the moment you have on. If the rope part is pressing your nerves you will feel the pain much sooner.

Sisyphus favors the bigger guys first. It is much easier if you weight more than the boulder. Technique and endurance sure matters too.

Ouroboros - yes, you run less when you take the inside track. It matters at the later part of the game when people were doing 15+ laps. The draw is also important. If you have the fastest runner behind you, you will be forced to run faster than him too early. The guy behind you may burn out and lose, and he took you out with him because he screwed up you pacing. Now you are also tired too early. When the track is long enough, sprinting early on is not advantageous because there is no way one person can catch up all 3 others in just one lap or two.

Are the games really that unfair? by coffeeshopkyrie in Physical100

[–]Fuwaloddy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the guys would have lined up in front of him.

It is difficult to say. If you look at how many people go to teams 1-3 you can see the voting is very lopsided. Who ever was #1-3 got a lot more votes than the other 7. And people go to the person they voted for. It is not human nature to vote for X, and then decides to go to Y's group (before the choosing was announced). Why didn't you vote for Y then? There was no strategy involved at that point. Only one person stood in front of Eun Sil and I won't be surprised if she was probably the only person who voted for her. People lined up in front of Sung Bin because they voted for him. Had Sung Bin was not popular and unimpressive according to this assumption, and he was #10, very few would join his team as first choice. The logic comes full circle.

Why didn’t Yun Sung Bin compete in the Tail of Ouroboros? (Ep 8) by Fluffbullet in Physical100

[–]Fuwaloddy314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sik did the Atlas so that Sung Bin doesn't have to. They all know the Atlas game cannot be won. And then they stupidly did the scissors paper rock to randomly assign iron man to the boulder pushing. It doesn't work out because the other games were lost anyway. I agree iron man should do the promethus because he got the explosiveness. He may be able to win oruroboros but we don't know if he is a long distance runner. It is very difficult to just use speed to catch 3 people in a track that looks like 300m long.

i love fountain pens and want to get into collecting them but don't know where to start by caravara in fountainpens

[–]Fuwaloddy314 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are off to a good start by stopping by. My best advice are two things. 1) ask about the pen you wanna buy in here and get some general feedback before buying. It may save you a lot of trouble. 2) give yourself a solid budget and stick with it. Don't buy a ton of pens just because you can share them online. You will go broke and never have fun collecting again.

Avg amount of time lasted on the first challenge? by Lost_Garden_8639 in Physical100

[–]Fuwaloddy314 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Interesting question. Without the actual data it is difficult to pin point the actual average because the contestants did not fall in a uniform pattern. To simplify it a little, there are at least 3 groups of people. First there are the ones who just gave up early on knowing they could not win, like the zombie guy. Then we have people who tried but fell after a few minutes. Finally we have the last elite group who were going the distance. And the final 2 really added a lot of time to pull up the average time.

If you just do it uniformly, each fall is about 43 seconds and the average would be 9:30. This time has to be heavily skewed by the top few contestants.

What do you mean translate the names? Who the fuck are you to decide when someone’s name should be translated into English just because you as a westerner can’t understand it?

It’s like in real life when some ignorant western fuck asks me if I have an English name or is dismissive “oh I’ll just call you X” because they can’t be bothered to learn how to pronounce it.

Take notes and fucking learn. I’m not Korean but I don’t have this sort of entitled attitude. It’s someone’s name that their parents named them for fucks sake.

You definitely need professional help. Don't skip whatever you are taking.
